Hi if you place the paint cans in hot water for a couple of minutes the pressure is at maximum inside, and you get a finer spray and you don't leave much in the can when empty.👋
This is wrong. Heat will cause high pressure and over spray. Cool the cans down in ice or fridge... will cause the paint to spray slower for fine lines.
Thank you, Iridium! I don't have any of the tools that other DIYers have to paint more sophisticated patterns. I just used your sponge method on a survival knife's micarta handles that were colored too light. LOVED the results.
I'm doing this to my bicycle helmet, It will be finished tomorrow. I just love how simple this is to do, yet so cheap and effective!! Your helmet looks insane! Man I wish every tutorial was this easy yet effective on YT. Your a legend, I've Subbed. 🤘👏👏👷♂️
Just used this on a surfboard for one of my customers : plus I took a branch and sprayed black over it in a couple spots to get the tree effect . .Came out amazing .
I like this explanation of sponge pattern camouflage painting, I normally use stencils but this is easier and faster. I've ended up with something close to a custom colour flectarn stock.
Not bad but I think you can do better. Here's some suggestions from my experience doing similar paint effects: * Instead of starting out with broad sprayed lines, use a big fist full of balled up syran wrap, so you have a very irregular edge with no man-made smoothness to it. * Spray dark over light but hold up a sprig of fresh leaves to stencil the leaves outline and the dark will form a bit of a shadowed effect. I think it's not as important there there be no sharp edges as that the sharp edges that are there resemble the ones that will be in the natural environment * Use several sizes of sponge as you blot. You're using the same small bits a little too much I think. * When selecting your paint colors, first take a photograph of the environment(s) you want to blend into, isolate a portion of just the grass or woods, then shrink that image down to very small in photoshop, maybe 5x5 pixels. Then select a few different tones from that super small image and find colors as close to those tones as possible.
Great ideas, thanks will try them out. I have done a few water bottles in my other videos that came out amazing using different sponges as well, but will try some of your ideas. I like the idea of using leaves, seen it done a few times and it always looks great. I did this video years ago on a crummy camera, but I have a few other videos more recent where I have done some sponge camo, so next time I do it I will try out some of the ideas you gave me, thanks!
Awesome, thanks for all these great videos. BTW if you're looking for a good object to just demo camo painting techniques on, I've found that green bed sheets (or maybe tarps if you can find green ones) are good and very practical. It's nice to be able to conceal your supplies / camp site from the air, they're good for that and can be gotten very cheap at thrift stores.
Wow! Great video! I never thought of using spray paint with a sponge! I believe this faux camo application would work on a tarp too! Hum, Very interesting, very interesting indeed! AND bonus, a camo hand! Thanks for the demonstration I REALLY appreciate it! Got the ole hamster running in the brain wheel now! lol
Cool, glad I could give you some ideas! Thanks for watching. Its only the second time I have done it, and it comes out great even without a ton of experience.
Yeah, it was green, I painted it that FDE brownish color not white, but my camera hates to color balance itself lol so it looks white. Thanks for watching!
Your pattern, kind of reminds me of some WW2 German Wehrmacht camo patterns. Pretty nice. That helmet looks better made than PASGT Kevlar I was issued while in the Army. If your in an arid climate maybe consider a little bit of light green. Don't think it would hurt. Nice work and field expedient.:)
That's way simpeler than cutting stencils and spraying everything. I'll actually use this to make some deep forest camo blankets and maybe a camo poncho.
This Helmet style was initially our design, however, the powers that be ditched it and went with the iconic WWII M1 Steel Pot instead. Fixed bales and front seem was the 1st gen for our troops. Not known to many, the Nazi's copied our design for their helmets and as such people often think that's where we've gotten our design from to date. This design was readapted for soldiers around 1987-88.
@Falk M The French Adian Helmet was the first combat helmet ever made and was pre Stahlhelm. We experimented with what the french did which was originally intended for protection against falling flak. The ear slop design was only a prototype of the U.S. first. Thankx for your input though!
Turned out nice. The only tip I'd give is alternate the direction of your darker stripes. Gives it a little more of a disruptive pattern. Also, hit it here and there with some black through a piece of burlap. Overall, good job though.
Camo is suposed to mimic nature .nature dont have symetrical lines. So this is a great way. Theres only one wrong way to do camo n thats to make it more visible then normal
Camo is NOT necessarily supposed to mimic nature. If you are in an urban environment then you want it to mimic not-nature. In this case, symmetrical lines would be required.
ME to Between the Sponges & some plant foliage,Like Leafs, Pine needle, Fern etc.? Should come out great also.? Lot of ideas here on the Tube,? Cameo rifle Painting etc.?
I've read through the comments so I didn't repeat this....That Kevlar helmet started being issued to the United States services around 1988, it's not German even though it is designed after the WWII German helmets. Nice paint job though.

Simplist method I've ever seen and it's very effective, very good job, I'd put a clear coat on that and call it a day
Finally someone that can do some stuff without Nancy-Boy surgical gloves on!!!!! Good on you!!
Thanks for a good video. Tried my own version today, and was very happy with the result. Will use it more in the future.
Thank you for this. I actually plan to paint my rifle this weekend and use your technique.

Boy, seven years late to this one. I sure wish I could find something with it's ballistic capabilities for 80 bucks today.
Great video. I actually grabbed the same sponges. Now almost $6 for a smaller pack. Sponge painting an AR right now.
that came out well
Finished product looked great!!
Ya the way he painted his arm camo i couldnt tell where his arm ended ant the helmet started 👍
Looks good, natural sponges is a must, the synthetic sponges didn't work for me, Just my 2 cents, your turned out great.

Very well done brother. I think it turned out very well and it definitely looks better than just a plain white helmet. Thanks for sharing.

Here in 2021..... I wanted to spray-paint a few Nerf Guns in camo using a sponge! Perfect! Thanks

don't be laying your rifle down in the woods, or leaning against a tree. you'll never find it again.
How cool is that - Love it! Thanks heaps.
Not bad!
Maybe aluminum foil on top of the cardboard would be even better for holding the paint?
Wax paper.
Half of the world's military now uses this type/style of helmet.
Turned out pretty cool !
thanks!

I had heard that but its was sold at the time on keepshooting.com as a german helmet.. way before I found out more info on it. Thanks!
I served along side and trained with the Bundeswehr (the German army) they most certainly do use this style of kevlar helmet.

Thanks for telling me! Love your design i am going to try it out on an airsoft M14 carbine.
