From this vid it sounds like the BD is a lot more trebly but 12 o’clock is not the ‘open’ setting on the hi-cut dial. At 12 you are rolling off high frequencies.
They do serve a similar purpose, they add a clipped signal to a clean amp. Why do people think that pedal comparisons need to be with pedals that sound the same? Maybe there are people who like to hear the difference between completely different pedals. You know, someone might not be sure what they want and don't want to watch a video showing the "difference" between 2 tubescreamer clones with a different IC chip (or a different paint job)

Yes, they are completly different. When you want to try hard, you can find middleground, but I dont think, those pedals servers similar purpose.
