So fascinating!!! Her story is similar to mine in a way - I was vegetarian from the age of 10 until I was 25 and it was because I cared about health and animals. When I went to France for a trip at age 24 I ate meat bc it was easier and for the first time in a very long time I felt energized and satisfied instead tired and hungry from an all carb veggie diet. After some research I became an omnivore and lost 10 lbs without even trying just from not needing to eat all the time - I was always hungry as a vegetarian. I’m pretty low carb now at age 51 and I definitely feel healthier than when I was a teenager vegetarian and lived on bagels and potatoes.

Hi Dr Sher, I thoroughly enjoyed and deeply valued this very special and oh so necessary podcast with Nicolette Niman. She certainly came across to me as a very real person who has integrated deep intuition, knowledge and experience into elegant and pristine intelligent action. Thank you.

We've just spent the past few months house shopping. I am always amazed at the absolute ridiculous accumulation in closets. I'm so glad she pointed out the totally ignored waste in the fashion industrial complex.
And as someone who grew up on a farm and lived in a ranching community for many years, this podcast does offer some hope despite the constant assaults against animal husbandry and for patented, processed foods--none more appalling in my mind than patented seeds and patented faux meat.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first edition of the book Defending Beef. Eager to read the updated version. I have encouraged many of my patients to read the first edition. Living in a ranching community it has been well received.
Often we hear that plants do not like to be eaten. Grasses need to be in order to thrive. My favorite fun fact, although not well researched, is how ruminant saliva acts as a plant growth hormone!

The thing that I find most annoying is when veggie/vegan experts say that eating meat isn’t healthy when really it’s their incorrect environmental believes/understanding that drives them to not eat meat.

@@majipoorcat I don’t differentiate between the animals people eat and the animals killed to clear the way for plant food to be grown for consumption. While humans have a responsibility to ensure that animals, wild or otherwise, are not treated cruelly or killed unnecessarily, I don’t believe we have to feel guilty for killing animals for our own survival. The current mouse extermination programme in NSW, Australia is a prime example of wild animals being killed in their millions because they are threatening sources of human food. I don’t think we need to say a blessing for them.

One reason in a beef feedlot for what appears as crowding is environmental. The idea is that the stocking rate needs to be high enough to have a compacted layer over the soil. This is so that water infiltrates slowly and effectively creates an anaerobic layer to promote denitrification of the soluble nitrogen produced from the manure. This keeps the nitrates out of the groundwater.

Yes. Crop production creates more greenhouse gases than meat production, yet meat is the target of all of these attacks. The issue is the food production techniques, not whether it’s meat or plant-based.

28:00 All along I-15 in the Idaho Falls area are signs warning about frequent dust storms, and the freeway has to be closed occasionally to prevent massive car pileups. Idaho (and Montana, where I live, as well as Wyoming and eastern Washington) are semi-arid climates. The soil is dry, and it's very often windy. It's hard to believe anyone driving through that hellscape can still believe that plowing up the soil and watching it blow away is somehow good for the environment.

Humans are made of meat. When you eat meat you are providing the body with Genuine Replacement Parts made of pretty much the same stuff you are made of. Eating vegetables is another thing. You can live on them, but there are problems with toxins and the body's ability to convert proteins and fats for a healthy metabolism.

Guys , just be realistic. How many people can afford and have enough supplies from Gras-fed- beef??? It’s a lifestyle of only a few . The majority of diabetics-are not falling in that category.... it’s not substantial to eat healthy meat for many people in many many countries. We here in Europe are mostly confronting with very bad and unhealthy meat products .

    • @laserfocus6178

I agree with you that it's unrealistic to have everyone consuming grass-fed beef.
However, as Nicolette has mentioned 31:35, the idea is to start one-step at a time.
It is just impossible to go full organic grass-fed beef all the time.
I cannot speak for you and everybody else, but what I would do is to try to my best to also look for other healthy and local products, like organic eggs or seafood. Or look into other cheaper cuts of meat. Besides, it's just more reasonable to eat a more variety of food.

I live in Europe. The quality of meat I can buy in the local supermarket is very high. I can stick to very high quality meat produced locally (in Denmark) if I want or I can buy high quality imported meat from around the world (e.g. Uruguay, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland). The EU regulations over the last 30 years have addressed the issues of hormones and antibiotics in meat production - both locally and imported - very well.

Conservation and concern for the environment are worthy goals even if one doesn't subscribe to "climate change", especially "catastrophic climate change " ideology. Catastrophic climate change ideology is a politically driven construct with no basis in reality, or benefit to mankind. Maintaining the environment and feeding the world with regeneratively raised beef certainly does serve mankind and the planet.
