Kevin Durant Exposes Chris Paul's Overrated Defense - 2018 NBA WCF

  • In the 2014 WCSF while Chris Paul allowed Westbrook to shoot the highest FG% of any series in his career, revisionists claimed that Paul supposedly "locked down" Durant based on a few anomalous plays when Durant scored on or was fouled by Paul far more often. The results were the same in the 2018 WCF when Paul was matched up with Durant again.
Chris Paul averaged his least assists (5.8) in any playoff run and least assists in any playoff series (4.6) during the 2018 WCF, proving that the only way for him to be successful on the team level is by having someone like Harden do most of the work for him. He also shot his 2nd-lowest FG% in any series during the 2018 WCF, second only to his horrendous performance against the 2012 Spurs.
Fortunately for Chris Paul, Andre Iguodala was injured during his clutch performances in Games 4 and 5 or else his numbers would have been even less impressive and the Rockets would have been eliminated earlier (According to ESPN, Iguodala held Harden and CP3 to 1/41 FG from Games 1-3, though I feel these numbers may be exaggerated).
James Harden and Clint Capela led all players or tied all leading players on both teams in PPG, RPG, APG, SPG, and BPG for the 1st and 2nd Rounds of the 2018 Playoffs to carry the overrated Chris Paul to his first WCF, since he was clearly never good enough to do this as the leader on his own team.
This is now the 4th time in 6 career playoff series wins that Chris Paul's teammates had to lead all players on both teams in PPG, RPG, and BPG (Blake/Deandre in 2014 and 2015, Harden/Capela in 2018)

One example of why NBA.com player DFG% is not accurate, for all who are citing this to argue Chris Paul played good defense
Through 2 games of the NBA Finals, nba.com claims that LeBron has not scored on Curry
    - stats.nba.com/player/2544/matchups/?Season=2017-18&SeasonType=Playoffs&DateFrom=05%2F31%2F2018&DateTo=06%2F03%2F2018
However one can clearly see that LeBron has scored on Curry at least 3 times through Games 1-2.
    - ruclips.net/video/b4fnnKF1Axg/видео.html
    - ruclips.net/video/b4fnnKF1Axg/видео.html
    - ruclips.net/video/XvAY7N9vUvE/видео.html
so NBA.com's DFG% is not at all accurate and citing it does nothing to hide Chris Paul's poor defense.

      2018 1st Round and 2018 WCSF
Harden and Capela lead all players or tie all leading players on both teams in PPG RPG APG SPG BPG for both the 1st and 2nd Round to carry Chris Paul to the WCF for his first ever 2nd-round series win.
      2018 WCF
Paul's only great performance in the 2018 WCF was Game 4 after Iguodala, the Warriors' best perimeter defender was injured and his next-best 4th quarter was in Game 5.
Prior to Iguodala's injury he had 17.3 - 8.3 - 4.3 on 40/25/75 with 2.0 TOpg and 4.3 fouls per game for Games 1-3, and that is even with him stat-padding in Game 1 and Game 3
Game 1 - 6 points on 3/3 FG in the last 80 seconds down 12+
Game 3 - 8 of 13 points, 1 of 4 assists after being down 20+ late in the 3rd quarter
The 2018 Warriors are the only team he faced that made the NBA Finals or won it all, and he averaged his least assists in any series (4.6) and 2nd-lowest FG% (40.7%) in any series against them.
Showing that he only has such good career playoff stats because
      - 10 of his 16 series are in the 1st Round
      - and because he never played a Finals or Title caliber team prior to the 2018 Warriors.
The only 60-win team he faced was the 2012 Spurs (adjusted for 82 games) and he shot 37% with 4.5 TOpg against them. When Chris Paul does face the highest level of competition, he has mediocre or poor performances.
The Rockets already made the WCF while beating Chris Paul in the process in 2015, and with injured Patrick Beverly missing the entire playoffs. The only way for Chris Paul to have playoff success on the team levels is by joining a team that already had more success without him then Paul did on his own teams.
Kevin Johnson, Jason Kidd, and Steve Nash all joined sub-30 win teams and immediately took them to 2 consecutive Conference Finals (NBA Finals for Kidd) despite KJ and Nash dealing with injuries to themselves or teammates, respectively. No excuse for Chris Paul failing to reach the WCF as the leader while losing to 0 Finals/Title teams prior to riding Harden's coattails.

Covered every game of the series and could only come up with 3 minutes of film against the most unstoppable offensive player in the league who has a full foot on him… half of the film being either fouls or legit good defense? I think this makes CP3 look even better defensively. 😂😂😂

I'm not one to complain much with your work, I cite it regularly in debates and discusssions.
But to be frank, and pardon my language, but these videos are utter bull shit. Chris Paul was easily the Alpha of this Rockets team. Sure, Harden had him beat statistically, but the impact was clearly seen in his absence Games 6 and 7. While Iggy was out, and this indeed hampered the Warriors chances, I think the CP3 injury will be one of the biggest "what ifs" of modern Playoff history.
Videos essentially cherry-picking plays where team defense breaks down or fouls are called cannot be used as adequate evidence against a player's defensive ability. There are plenty of times in this series and others this Playoffs where Chris Paul's defensive IQ led to critical plays, where are those moments? Furthermore, it's a given that a player who is 33 years old will not be at the same level defensively as he was in his prime.
Finally, you feel the need to prove your point by uploading multiple videos of each GSW star faced up against CP3. What does this prove exactly? That a 6'0" player is probably going to be mismatched with a bigger, stronger player? The result seems pretty obvious when this happens, and I'm not sure why you've taken the time to single out Paul when Curry and Durant broke down defensively just as much if not more than him.
The quality in your work has gone down significantly, all I ask is for actual, intelligent criticism. Not more of the "oh, the stats are wrong and he's just padding them."

He hates CP3 too much that its already affecting his intelligence and knowledge about basketball. Imagine he’s actually legitimately thinking he’s exposing a defensively proven 6’0 point guard matched up vs a 6’11 SF who is known to be the one of the greatest scorers in the world of basketball. Too much hate really eats up your brain.

I gotta admit I use him as my source but only for MJ and lebron debates and he does have informative articles but he has bias on cp3. And doesnt know basketball or either watches cp3. I can take many guards on the defensive end over cp3 like Bradley wall nun also payton and Stockton. But cp3 is a good defender also is underrated at his height at 6 feet hes able to play defense and no one has done that before. Also has given players struggles. All tho stats dont tell. He actually does it well. And if u see the videos of him guarding KD. He does it very well and defenders like him have given kd tough matchups even rivers also trusted Paul to guard great offensive players. But Paul Is great defensive guard and theirs proof

  • @FirstnameLastname-qb2bg
    @FirstnameLastname-qb2bg 6 лет назад +22

I didn't watch the video I already know his garbage blueprint. The time breakdown of the video is something like 10% of legit plays / 20% of good defense they just made the shot / 30% is showing every foul and anything else to make the video as long as possible / 40% of it is BS where he takes reaching to another level. Video complete.
