Hoya addiction is real. 😂 I know i can't buy them all so I'm just trying to keep my collection diverse and not buy different varieties of the same plant.
I did buy my gracilis, sarawak, and burtoniae bc of you. 😊
I still have several on my wishlist.
I'd recommend hoya heushkeliana variegata and h. quinquinervia. I love mine so much! I bought those two because of wildfern. RUclipsrs are dangerous for my wallet. 😂

Hey Claire! I love your videos and watch all of them! I am generally not very active in the comments but there are a couple of tings I felt like I should mention here for future reference.
The hoya latifolia species has thousands of cultivars actually, so I would say there is no 'true latifolia', they are all latifolias. So your hoya latifolia (sarawak) is named as such because that specific latifolia came from the Sarawak region. You can add description of the specific cultivars inside the bracket, but they are not part of the hoya name.
As for the hoya latifolia (macrophylla red), the 'red' would come from the colour of the flowers, and not the leaf colour. Like other latifolia cultivars, more light would sunstress the plant more where less light means less sunstress. Some cultivars sunstress more readily than others, for example hoya latifolia (sp. IV from WMZ) sunstresses more readily.
On the other hand, there are actual macrophyllas in the world but the ones in circulation were studied and then reclassified as latifolia. So, for example, the plant you call macrophylla red is actually a hoya latifolia (macrophylla red). Similarly, the macrophylla albomarginata is actually a hoya latifolia (outer variegated).
Also, the parasitica were also reclassified as verticllata, so the correct way to write the name for the parasitica black margin would be hoya verticillata (black margin). Loads of others like hoya acuta were also reclassified as verticillata too. I know it's confusing, but there is more that you learn every day in tthe hoya world. The 'cultivation names' are different to standard names and the growers generally come up with them.
Take Susie Q for example, there is actually 'true' hoya susie q which is in fact a hybrid of hoya carnosa (outer variegated) and hoya carnosa (krinkle 8). However, no hybrid hoyas can be variegated, they will have green leaves to the best of my knowledge. The variegation on hoyas are man-made through chemical inducing/ radiation. The general guess in the hoya community about the 'susie q' in circulation is that it is just a hoya carnosa (outer variegted) with much more crinkly leaf, much like the structural difference between your and your mom's carnosa (krinkle 8).

I learned recently from a Plant With Roos video that the hoya bella albomarginata also goes by the name hoya bella anneke buis and that it is named after one of two sisters from the Buis Family that cultivated it. The inner variegated one is named after the other sister - hoya bella lida buis.

Also, neem oil. It's amazing for mealybugs (& most pests). It's a natural alternative to pesticides - the layer of oil basically suffocates pests but ALSO prevents them from being able to eat once the plant absorbs the oil. Highly recommend giving it a go!

The difference between a hoya pubicalyx and a Royal Hawaiian purple is the bloom not the leaves. The Hawaiian purple has purple flowers 😉 I have two "non" Hawaiian and my new leaves come in a deep purple maroon color like yours... just an fyi😊 also, light levels can affect the bloom color, so maybe the plant you showed with different flower colors has different light on different parts.
If you, look it up, hoya macrophylla has been re-classed as lattifolia. Maybe this will help you research yours more effectively?
You have some gorgeous hoyas, thanks for sharing ❤

    @beckyfrichek8190 11 месяцев назад +1

I had to stop watching so I could talk about trellises. 😂
Here are two things I’ve done recently that I love, and that don’t look like a standard trellis:
    1) I have thrifted lots of wooden and bamboo embroidery hoops of various sizes. My large carnosa is in a hanging pot. I suspended an extra large embroidery hoop halfway between the hook it’s hanging on and the pot, so that there is a floating circle all the way around the pot, and I trellised all the vines on that. I love the look of it. I have a small shepherdii in another hanging pot, and I just rested a smaller embroidery hoop on the soil of the pot so the circle hangs primarily below the pot. That one also looks so good to me. The long leaves dangling down give it an almost dripping effect, like I painted the circle with a brush that I hadn’t dabbed off properly, and so there are little rivulets of paint all around.
    2) I placed my large pubicalyx pot in one of the wire baskets that are meant to hang outside with a moss liner and wound the tendrils around the different spokes of the basket. I’ve had That basket for a while to try using as a trellis, but it took me a long time to figure out exactly how I wanted to use it. But I love it! It creates kind of a whirlwind effect around the pot.
Something I intend to to in the future when some of my newer hoya are ready for trellises is to put them on some gnarly branches and pieces of driftwood I have. I’m really looking forward to that.

Your Lacunosa Supereskimo looks a bit thirsty. Lacunosas like slightly more water than other hoyas. I would bottom-water it at least once so that she has a good drink. Unles you've checked with your finger and the soil is moist.

I have a parasitica splash, but when I tried to look into it I think it was renamed to hoya verticillata?

You should have your mum on sometime so we can meet her! And I would love to see her conservatory! We don’t really have them here.

Hi Claire, absolutely love your hoyas video. Re the Wilbur Graves, do you know whether its a Russia or China variety. Thank you so much for all the info and experience. Peace

Amazing Hoya collection. The globulosa i love it was on a hunt for it for ages. And I happen to met a planty friend who was getting rid of it. Got it as a two leaf cutting didn’t do anything for a year and this summer just burst with many new leaves. Which i was so happy about i think it was being neglected before. The Hoya Obovata Variegated i think i got a bad cutting didn’t do well and kept giving me wonky new leaves and variegations didn’t stay. The Hoya Wayetti variegated i had no luck with that one leaves kept staying limp and then just kinda shrivelled and died. I do want to own the Kentiana instead which is more pink in colour. Wilbur graves still want to own one with lots of silvery variegations. Hoya Mathilde is a cute one the splash one is even more amazing. Is such a fast growing. Hoys Krinkle 8 is s good with i love it looks like it has abs. Hoya Krimson Princess is my favourite. There are more good ones still you should get.
