@Isla Robinson hmm, Let's assume what you're saying is right and Parton made this claim in a documentary. Perhaps I'm jaded but life has taught me to not always take what everyone says at face value.
There is definitely a sound of a typewriter bell that you hear on carraige return that is not nails or any other body part. So they had a real bell sound of a typewriter but for the clicking sound they decided to use her fingernails? Sounds really suspect. Why not just use the real clicking sound of the typewriter?
Edit, well now that I think about it more the clicking rhythm is really precise and it might be hard to get that kind of precision with typewriter keys, so ok I guess I believe it. This was before the kind of electronic soundboards they have now.

here from the Penguin also. All I had in my mind up to seeing the lyrics was "nine to 5 what a way to make a living" and a few other innocuous lines. But for some reason lines like:
"Barely gettin' by, it's all takin' and no givin'"
and "Want to move ahead but the boss won't seem to let me",
"They just use your mind and you never get the credit",
"There's a better life and you think about it don't you"
"And you spend your life puttin' money in his wallet"
Wish I had the ears to hear it before but something about the intensity of the Penguin made me listen again.

    Lyrics for anyone who needs:
Tumble outta bed and I stumble to the kitchen
Pour myself a cup of ambition
Yawn and stretch and try to come to life
Jump in the shower and the blood starts pumpin'
Out on the street the traffic starts jumpin'
With folks like me on the job from 9 to 5
Workin' 9 to 5, what a way to make a livin'
Barely gettin' by, it's all takin' and no givin'
They just use your mind and they never give you credit
It's enough to drive you crazy if you let it
9 to 5, for service and devotion
You would think that I would deserve a fat promotion
Want to move ahead but the boss won't seem to let me
I swear sometimes that man is out to get me!
They let you dream just to watch 'em shatter
You're just a step on the boss-man's ladder
But you got dreams he'll never take away
You're in the same boat with a lotta your friends
Waitin' for the day your ship'll come in
An' the tide's gonna turn and it's all gonna roll your way
Workin' 9 to 5, what a way to make a livin'
Barely gettin' by, it's all takin' and no givin'
They just use your mind and you never get the credit
It's enough to drive you crazy if you let it
9 to 5, yeah they got you where they want you
There's a better life, and you dream about it, don't you?
It's a rich man's game no matter what they call it
And you spend your life puttin' money in his wallet
9 to 5, whoa what a way to make a livin'
Barely gettin' by, it's all takin' and no givin'
They just use your mind and they never give you credit
It's enough to drive you crazy if you let it
9 to 5, yeah they got you where they want you
There's a better life, and you dream about it, don't you?

Dolly is such an amazing songwriter and singer that every song she sings makes you feel and think deeply. She just has that voice that goes straight to your heart. Her voice is so naturally nostalgic that it hits me right in my being and it takes me back to places I’ve never been and times Ive never experienced. She is truly a performer that will be remembered as long as this civilization exists.

    *LYRICS :*
    Tumble outta bed
And I stumble to the kitchen
Pour myself a cup of ambition
    And yawn and stretch
And try to come to life
    Jump in the shower
    And the blood starts pumpin'
    Out on the street
    The traffic starts jumpin'
The folks like me on the job from 9 to 5
    Workin' 9 to 5,
What a way to make a livin'
    Barely gettin' by
It's all takin' and no givin'
    They just use your mind
And they never give you credit
It's enough to drive you crazy
    If you let it
9 to 5, for service and devotion
    You would think that I
    Would deserve a fair promotion
    Want to move ahead
But the boss won't seem to let me
I swear sometimes that man is out to get me
    They let you dream
    Just to watch 'em shatter
    You're just a step
    On the boss-man's ladder
    But you got dreams
    He'll never take away
    You're in the same boat
With a lot of your friends
Waitin' for the day your ship'll come in
    'N' the tide's gonna turn
And it's all gonna roll your way
    Workin' 9 to 5
What a way to make a livin'
    Barely gettin' by
It's all takin' and no givin'
    They just use your mind
And you never get the credit
It's enough to drive you crazy
    If you let it
    9 to 5, yeah
They got you where they want you
    There's a better life
And you think about it, don't you?
    It's a rich man's game
No matter what they call it
    And you spend your life
    Puttin' money in his wallet
    9 to 5, whoa
What a way to make a livin'
    Barely gettin' by
It's all takin' and no givin'
    They just use your mind
And they never give you credit
It's enough to drive you crazy
