I like how large swathes of US territory were obtained just because they didn't want Britain to have it.
They couldn't give up land that would effect them later
Napoleon allowed sale of the Louisiana Purchase mainly to fund wars in Europe
I would consider that as a victory for the UK lol
Hatred of British colonialism benefited the US in many ways. Then, we ended up trying it in the Philippines.
@@danielwebb4713 I think they both won britain got land and so did the u.s.

"came at the expense of millions of Native Americans who lived mostly in tribes."
The background: Perfect!!!
I noticed that too lmao
isn't it the announcer from street fighter 2?
The continent was nearly empty. Spread across what is today the US and Canada there were between 1-3 million natives at their population peak, roughly the late 1600s. At the same time the population of just England was 5.2 million. North America was mostly empty land inhabited by a collection of often waring tribes.
@@lookoutforchris For centuries tribes would be at war, one killing the other. It is well documented in indian war journals and historic documents that when one tribe over took a different tribe, it would kill every last man, woman and child to stop the blood line and keep it from being introduced to their own.
By the Indian own rules, the only mistake American's ever committed was to not kill every last indian when we took over the land. Instead we as Americans showed mercy and gave them alternative places to live instead of killing them, which again was their own way of life.
Now look at how that has worked out for Americans, nothing but the victim card demanding tax payers money for generations. Indians should have been more grateful they were not beaten by another tribe, or many other countries which would have turned them all into fertilizer long ago.
@@lookoutforchris How convenient for the United States that the Spanish and English killed off tens of millions of Natives with disease and war hundreds of years earlier, so that people like you can comment that it was only a few million that the United States had to get rid of.
It amazes me how strong and influential the United States has become in such a short period of time.
@Primex Exactly. ismanagement of the rise of Germany by the Brit's and the French, considering close proximity to that new nation proved Catastropic for them And USA keeping clear of that trouble, Secured the future
Insane luck
If your in Europe or even Asia, it’s not possible to invade the usa due to location and those around america simply put not strong enough, even Brazil
Maybe allow your people to be free and the countries growth will 10 fold but most countries are pussies and afraid of its people.
no one will ever be able to invade the United States, on the contrary, it is convenient for the United States to invade other countries.
Once a Russian said: "why take over america? if you can just wipe it off the face of the earth?"
Summary of the summary:
_____: I don't want britain to take _______ so I,ll just sell it to the USA.
I noticed that too
@Keshav well, Russia and France were totalitarian empires when they sold Alaska and French Louisiana respectively to the U.S., so i doubt either held Republican ideals.
The enemy of my enemy is my friend
To be fair, both Alaska and the Louisiana territory (to a lesser extent) were only relatively lightly inhabited by Russians and French, They were mostly just selling their claim to the lands. The United States after buying them still had to subjugate the natives and develop the land. There are virtually no signs remaining of the Russian colonization of Alaska, and apart from a few place names, the French colonization of the Louisiana territory is only shown in the much smaller land of the state of Louisiana.
And then they found gold and everyone regretted it
Random European country: I have land in North America but I really don’t want Britain to steal it from me
USA: hey kid want some money

Which leaves a lot out and some untruths included . Napoleon did not sell the Louisiana territory because of fear of losing it. Napoleon just lost his most productive colony ( Haiti) which constituted 40% of the French economy. He needed money yo continue his wars in Europe. That was the reason for the sale. So the reason was: The Haitian Revolution.
Extremely well presented. I was even able to learn some new information as well.

@@Drannn54 The land isn't. But the USA is.
Morocco was one of the first countries to recognize the newly independent United States, opening its ports to American ships by decree of Sultan Mohammed III in 1777. The Great Armada left Spain's north ports in August 1588 in order to CONQUER England.
Bad meteorologic conditions and bad cartography lead to the sinking of plenty of it's ships but the British only manage to sink 1!
Spain still managed to win the war and to take it's position as the world superpower it was and to locked it for centuries.

I would only say that things are always portrayed as "Americans" being exploited by the "British". All parts of England, and then the United Kingdom were exploited by their rich overlords. One thing about the Cuban missile crisis, the USA had missiles in turkey before the soviets did in Cuba and was a major reason for them implementing missiles in Cuba.
And the secret promise to remove those missiles helped defuse tensions.

Panama " offers" the U.S. a strip of land
Clem Cornpone what are you talking about in your last sentence?
@Clem Cornpone Fellow American here, we still treat Puerto Rico, Guam, The Virgin Islands, and the Northern Mariana Islands as colonies. They can vote in primary elections but not general elections and congress decides all national matters and can veto their local laws yet these people get not say about who is in congress. Puerto Rico has more people than a lot of states yet when Hurricane María hit our government didn't help them like when Houston was hit by Hurricane Harvey. The UN even keeps a list of territories that are still basically colonies and surprise surprise several US territories are there. These people have US passports can freely move to any US state and have the same rights as us once their in one of the 50 states, but as long as they reside in their territory they're basically a colony with no voting powers.
Quinn Stone Panama is essentially a creation of the US. Colombia refused to make a deal with the US, so the US then financed Panamanian rebels in their fight to secede. They understood this was the US’s intention the moment they accepted their money; it was a business deal.
Clem Cornpone lol they have every right to criticize us and they are correct. Stop being such a blind dumb patriot and open your eyes. Hawaii wanted independence and we crushed that quick. Puerto Rico wants statehood again and again and we keep ignoring it. I could go on and on...

Hoping you guys can do a history video for Australia and New Zealand.
Agree
This is a really good video; this is very historically accurate.
Also, can you make a tutorial showing how you do your videos?
4:12 i like how Ohio just pops up out of no where
That's how it really formed. Ask Michigan.
I don't :(
Aaaaah, the colony becomes the colonizer.
The British make a colony so big it makes colonies
lmao we r the colonizers - we gotta fic america
Guess again. Colonizing is a term used for conquering a land NOT adjacent to yours otherwise ALL warfare is colonizing. That would mean that when one of the over 500 tribes conquered their neighbor and enslaved and stole their land that they colonized them. Sound kinda stupid now, right? Just warfare and being the winner. Hella better than the loser.
@@crowninghistory4542 Filipinos LOVE Americans! They are thankful that USA saved them from a brutal and terrible colonizer. I know, I married one and I've been there.
Strange thing is USA saved China from even more destruction and made China wealthy and they quickly turned communist. So now, China is about to be broken similar to USSR. USA is stopping all trade and pulling all US business manufacturing out of China. China will be broke before this is even finished, probably in or before 2028.
PEACE!

Incredible video! Keep it up! SUBBED
As an Armenian I respect US people for their achievements. And how they've built their own country that will handle whole world 3-3,5 centuries later.
Ethnic US people should be proud of their short but strong history of how they made the most powerfull country in the world. BIG RESPECT👍🇺🇲
