When I was very young, I used to watch this movie all of the time. Not just on Halloween, either. I loved it so so much. Ray Bradbury was one of my mother's favorite authors, so she went to a lecture and book signing of his. During the signing, all of the event planners made sure everyone knew that he was just going to sign his name, no messages. Mom got to the front of the line with a copy of the Halloween Tree and said 'I know they said no messages, but my child's birthday is near Halloween and this is their favorite story'. Ray Bradbury leaned forward conspiratorially and said 'what's their name?' And that is how I got my prized possession: a hard cover of The Halloween Tree with Ray Bradbury wishing me a Happy Birthday on the inside title page.
"Oh Mr. Moundshroud, will we ever stop being afraid of nights and death?" "When you reach the stars, my boy, yes, and live among them forever, then all the fears will go, and Death himself will die."

This is my favorite Halloween movie. There is a sense of adventure. I don’t think kids today walk more than a couple of blocks to go trick or treating. I will carry this movie in my heart for as long as Iive. It’s a refreshing memory for my 36 year old self. And I don’t know anyone who remembers this movie either.
I grew up with this and watched it prolly dozens of times. It has some Magic School Bus vibes but straight up edgier and moodier. Legitimately unnerving and creepy as hell for an educational children's cartoon, downright depressing at times. Intense Halloween vibes without being slashery or whatnot, the feels are real, and it teaches about the history of Halloween in a realistic manner. Ultimately, an exceptionally fantastic Halloween movie, especially for kids and families. 💀🔪🎃👻🎃👀💨💩🧟☠️🧟

I remember the first time this came out on tv and my oldest daughter have been hooked on it ever since. I was so disappointed when it stopped airing. I wish a streaming service would pick it up! I am 66 years old now and still LOVE this movie, but then again, I grew up reading Ray Bradbury stories.

My grandfather pirated this when I was a child - copied from one VHS to another that we rented from a store. And they were still willing and happy to surrender that time.

my all time favorite Halloween movie!!! I wish they still would play this for kids today and a new generation/era and teach the different cultures & history of Halloween. It was said to be deemed ;too scary; for kids so they took it off cartoon network;( I would rent this vhs all the time haha I have the dvd now and Love it ((and the book too)) and show my 2 year old daughter and will make this a tradition every year!! :) It is a dark ending/theme though them giving up 1 year from the end of their life to Moundshroud who I guess is essentially the Halloween night Grim Reaper?...

I barely remembered this from my childhood but desperately tried to find it for like 20 years. Finally found it a few years ago. I just showed it to my niece and nephew last night. It felt so good.
A fantastic and underrated movie. One of my personal all-time favourites, from the story, the animation and soundtrack. Leonard Nimoy gives a phenomenal vocal performance as Mr. Moundshorud! The kind of movie that could do with a live-action movie faithful to the 1993 animated movie! I'll be watching this film forevermore. :-)
I remember first seeing this movie while I was on holiday in Canada in about ‘96 I think, but I definitely saw this movie a couple of times while I was living in Whitley Bay.

fun fact one of the producers David Kirschner produced and worked on the Child's play movies and Bride of Chucky (one of my favorite horror movies ever tied along with Scream) i just thought it was cool he was a part of this 90s cartoon movie ;) such nostalgia.
I watched this film as a kid once. After I almost forgot about it, but each Halloween I remember some things like Nimoy's character, Pip or the tree. But last year I finally found the original movie, but also the book from Bradbury. I remember that after reading it I had a theory about Pip. I think the ginger kid is the personification of their youth, all the good memories they had of them as children. That's why they sacrifice one year, they will live a year more as kids in exchange of a year as adults.
OMG!! I have been wondering for decades what this movie was that I saw as a child. I could only remember bits and pieces about it, like the weird bald guy who showed up as a mummy in the story, a group of kids, one of then being sick, etc. I never remember enough about it to be able to look it up. Thank you!!!

@@Akutabai5 Haha. Terribly sorry for the way I had to refer it. I tried various methods and all were being removed. That was the only one which was allowed to stay posted. Glad you were able to decipher the technique. I too, couldn't remember the name of this movie. I tried searching for it way back when by only searching scenarios I remembered and came up empty. Then, about 10 years ago, I tried once again using the same method and struck luck. I now own it on mp4 file and DVD and watch it with the kiddos. I really enjoyed this movie as kid in '93 when it was aired on ABC and adore it now as an adult. It's kind of hard to come by, so I like to help others whom are aware of this movie from their childhood so they may have an opportunity to view it and reminiscence. We must of been so little because i remember being GLUED TO SCREEN & SOOO TERRIFIED at the same time when we would watch this before bed!! 😂❤ I never could remember what this movie was called. I just remember bits and pieces and thst was over 25 years ago and I just NOW found it!! Crazy movie!!
I love this old school Halloween themed cartoon. I saw it when it was fresh on TV in '93. Then part of it again before the end of the 90s. Finally watched it completely when it became available on DVD and been watching it every year for the past few years. Wish Hanna Barbera would release it on Blu ray. I so want to see it in 1080p!
I remember seeing this around the time it came out (I think it aired with other Kids' Halloween Specials) and to this date it's still my fav Halloween Special. I loved the friendship between the kids, the sense of adventure, and learning about the different cultures.

I have this on DVD and I watch it every year. My roommate in 1995 introduced me to it and I love that it explores halloween origins. The soundtrack is FANTASTIC and John Debney also scored Hocus Pocus and Phantom Manor is Disneyland Paris. The book has more kid characters and they're all boys. It's a good read.

I am traveling to Mexico City next week, and I have had a picture of a cartoon sugar skull stuck in my head since I bought my plan ticket months ago. For the life of me I could not recall where the image was from, and almost wrote it off like a fever dream. Trying a variety of google search phrases led me to Halloween tree, and your video. Thank you, glimpses of the movie sparked flashbacks of watching it as a child. (I remember needing to always leave the room when they go to the crypt) Cheers!

Oooh Ray Bradbury! That explains so much
This was a beautiful episode. Yes it was about death, but not just death. One of their friends was dying and loved.
You're absolutely crushing this, loved all of these so far :) keep up the good work

im 31, but as a child i always watched the halloween tree before pr after trick or treating.. it stuck with me forever i got the DVD used to have a VHS tape of it
A fantastic film to a fantastic book: the narrator was the Author, Ray Bradbury himself.
A live action adaption is supposedly in the works.

I watched this movie so much as a little kid and I remember finding both fascinating and extremely haunting. Like the kid’s soul was trapped in a pumpkin?! Jesus Christ!
This used to be an absolute must-watch for me at Halloween time when I was younger 😊
I remember the first time this came out on tv and my oldest daughter have been hooked on it ever since. I was so disappointed when it stopped airing. I wish a streaming service would pick it up! I am 66 years old now and still LOVE this movie, but then again, I grew up reading Ray Bradbury stories.

My sister and I rented this movie countless times from the library as kids. We LOVED this movie.
Love this movie. Watch it every few months, have the soundtrack.
My grandfather pirated this when I was a child - copied from one VHS to another that we rented from a store. I adored it.
would also got to me was how he pointed out to them there's no guarantee that any of them or Pipkin would live along and happy life. And they were still willing and happy to surrender that time.
Oh my god yes I was literally just thinking of what was the name of this movie thanks man this brings back childhood memories

I watch this every Halloween.
This movie brings me major childhood nostalgia and I can’t explain
I watch this movie every year. Its the darkest Halloween movie ever made.
my all time favorite Halloween movie!!!
Holy crap I've been trying to remember this movie for ages

This has been my favorite Halloween movie since I first saw it on cable TV in 1993. The music is beautiful.

4:10- So, this is what the Crypt Keeper looked like when he was alive.
Mr. Moundshroud Awfully Looks Like Mr. Burns
I absolutely adored this movie as a kid
LITERALLY my fave Halloween Movie ever. Thanks for doing the thing.
fun fact one of the producers David Kirschner produced and worked on the Child's play movies and Bride of Chucky (one of my favorite horror movies ever tied along with Scream) i just thought it was cool he was a part of this 90s cartoon movie ;) such nostalgia.
Read the book, it's even better. I never returned it to the library and paid the fine. Worth it.

Haha.

It's a wonder full movie 🎉I haven't seen it in a year its grrrreat 🎉🎉🎉
I absolutely agree with you that this movie has an enigmatic feeling permeating through it. The theme of life and death in this film really impacted me as a child. It’s a bittersweet story. I truly love it.
Great video! I subbed!
Thank you for bringing this great movie back to life it truly is a gem THANK YOU!!

my grandmother would buy every movie possible on VHS for me and my sister when we were children. Born in 92. And my sister in 94.
I love this movie! Just finished watching it. Loved watching it on Cartoon Network here in the Philippines when I was a kid
This is the one I hoped you would cover, it's a personal tradition to watch this on Halloween, just so darn good!
I remember seeing this around the time it came out (I think it aired with other Kids' Halloween Specials) and to this date it's still my fav Halloween Special. I loved the friendship between the kids, the sense of adventure, and learning about the different cultures.
Wow. This unlocked memories.

This is one of my favourite Halloween movies.
I remember watching The Halloween Tree every Halloween on Cartoon Network. It's a really great film.
The notre dame scene was the only thing i really remember. Been looking for this movie for years
I have this on DVD and I watch it every year. My roommate in 1995 introduced me to it and I love that it explores halloween origins. The soundtrack is FANTASTIC and John Debney also scored Hocus Pocus and Phantom Manor is Disneyland Paris.
The book has more kid characters and they're all boys. It's a good read.
Hell yes I remember this-- I saw it when I was 5 or 6 and I remember it as the most terrifying thing I ever fucking saw and it made me cry, lmao.

I just finished watching that for Halloween. That's my annual tradition.
This was such a GOAT movie, Me and my sis would wait all year to watch it on Cartoon Network, got us all emotional and shit during our childhood ! God, I wish I could go back and experience it for the first time again.
Got it on dvd and currently watching with my wife 4,2& 2week old doesn’t get much better!!!
I own this on DVD. Not sure where i found it. Our family watches it every year. Its my favorite Halloween movie
I have it on DVD too....and I'm watching it now at 20:53 in my house. Haha🎃👍👍👍👍👍
absolutely love the movie. I would call it my favorite movie of all time but for the technicality that its a TV movie. I also read the book every Halloween which i'm looking forward to.

Yep! Ray Bradbury was incredible.
I still remember Pip's pumpkin speaking to him in the pyramid. That part always came back when the show came to mind.
This cartoon got me into reading Bradbury. I watch and read Halloween Tree every year now.
I remember renting this movie a lot for Halloween as a kid, and it's one of the most underrated classics that I know of! Here's to hoping more kids get exposed to this when they get exposed to more Hanna-Barbera classics. ^^

Same! I’ve been searching for this movie for years! My sister is the only reason I knew I hadn’t dreamed it! We have always talked about how it was traumatic cause one of the kids almost dies. Of course it’s written by ray bradbury!!
this whole time I thought the voice of Moundshroud was voiced by Mark Lenard, who portrayed Spock's father in the Star Trek franchise.
Loved this movie as a kid, I couldnt remember the name of it though..I just had a vivid memory of the candy skulls being handed to them by the vampire!
I own it on DVD and watch it every year

This is a fun animated movie. What might be cool is if Disney or some company made a Pixar like movie. If they did they should redo Mounshroud a little and have him voiced by James Woods, have him be like a good version of Hades.
I saw it as a child when it first aired, and I've loved it since.
seared into memory on the same folds that process mortality in my early brain's development.
I just found it, and im super excited to see it again, from what i remembered was a tree, a boy saying “oh my gosh” and pumpkins) i was like 6 years old at the time it came out
I remember this when it aired (before cartoon network on ABC)
I would really love to watch this movie again, I havent seen it since I was like 6 or 7, great movie from what I remember 😊
I didn't know this existed until last year. I wish i had when i was younger but at least my son gets to see this wonderful special.
