My favourite thing as a kid was when my mum would pick a 'surprise' movie for me to watch. I think it was mainly a tactic to stop me wasting time so that I would go to bed at a normal time after the movie, but something about taking the responsibility away from me made it feel more exciting when I knew nothing about what I was about to watch. Definitely easier to do with a kid but I feel like it could be exciting to do with friends/family/partners etc.
I’m definitely guilty of overthinking what I watch 😂 I’ll spend sooo much time browsing compared to watching and sometimes after I pick something to watch I’ll get 20mins in and then go back to browsing again 🤦♀️ I think this is partly why I keep rewatching things that I haven’t seen in a long time but know I already like. Seeking out short films sounds like a good idea though ☺️
ahha i literally did this today 😭😭 i sat down with a movie and after ten minutes i was like … today isn’t the right mood.. and changed the movie, i’m a disaster
I've watched more than a 100 ( lots of old movies ) this year but not 1 short film . And 4 series. Thanks for the recommendation, I'll watch some short films too from now on.
I think my main reason why i watch so little during so much time i'm provided is that I'm having trouble with mindfullness and i sure zone out A LOT, so an hour and a half movie that could be finished in an hour and a half would tame from 3 to 7 hours depending how my surroundings help me into it
i sometimes need to rewind scenes SO many times to understand what they mean. i’ve literally watched so many scenes and have been daydreaming, or overthinking so I understand you partially. At least you’re trying 🙌🏻
I've been watching 1 or 2 movies a night for the past couple months, which has been mostly great, but this past week or so I've been feeling quite... unpassionate about it? Like I'll stick the movie on and I'm mostly observing it ("oh here's a plot device, here's a character arc, some setup, etc"). I feel as though I've been watching so many movies that very little in them is that surprising to me anymore? I guess it's kinda like burnout. Needless to say I'm gonna take it slow for a while to hopefully build back some of the joy I used to find in it. Gonna try your tip about watching short films because that does feel like something that could easily reignite some passion.
WE ARE THE SAME PERSON OMG this has literally happened to me, I just burned out; I was watching stuff, knew what would happen, i’d watch movies just to watch them. Whenever I didn’t watch movies, I felt bad - overall, it was just a weird cycle that I needed to step back from. Letterboxd made things worse honestly, I felt I was out of place because I wasn’t watching enough. Take a break! it’s what i’m doing for a while because i felt like you did thanks for the comment, i’m glad I can relate :)
You're seeing the movie instead of watching it. Seeing a film isn't a bad thing if you're trying to study it but yeah it can ruin some first tie experiences when stuck in the loop. Try and take a bit of a break. Read a book that one of your favorite movies were adapted from! I find that can make me start to love it again.
What a great topic!! Finding what am I in the mood for, can definitely get tricky. Same with music, but movies might take a little longer to feel just right LOL It's such a good advice not to let movies feel like a chore, a while ago I let someone do that, and after that, I just prefer watching movies on my own, whatever I want, whenever I want (or whenever I have the time). How's your journey through kids movies? I just rewatched "Mulan"(1998), and I must say the art is fantastic!! The comedy doesn't even need words at times, and it's just a very well done film. Hope it's on your list 😜 It's so good to see you feeling better and your voice sounding so well!! 😊😊😊 Have a lovely week as always! Cheers!!
Mulan !! it’s been on my list for so long - i’ve been slacking on the kids movies, the last one i watched was lilo and stitch and i loved it so much, I didn’t expect to enjoy it a lot and me too regarding the mood, i wish there was a generator that knew exactly what I wanted haha what do you use to track your movies ?? have a lovely week 🫶🏻
@@PavelTalks Oh a mood reading algorithm would be so cool and so scary 😆 but very useful! I love Lilo and Stitch! It's cute and fun, but also packed with serious topics, I remember feeling her sister's struggles to stay together. I don't use anything anymore 🙈 I tried IMDb but I would always forget to log in 😆 I tried keeping my own list, that then became lists, and I would always end up forgetting about them 😂 So now I just go by memory, if I don't remember the plot of something I watched, then it wasn't so good 😆 And if I don't remember I wanted to watch something, then I don't stress about it anymore! 😁 Chaotic, but works 😂
Damn you’re doing it so right, I remember just enjoying being like “yeah i think i’ve watched it??” but now I use letterboxd like a personality trait at times which i’m aware of and I hate so maybe, maybe I need to delete it 😂😂 I’ve wanted to delete lots of apps for a long time such as instagram but that’s a story for a different day 😂😂
@@PavelTalks I mean, it makes sense to keep it because of your channel; but also, yeah, if watching a movie starts feeling like a task, then yeah, maybe you can try a different method to keep track. Deleting apps, yeah, everyone's wish these days 😆. I stopped using Facebook long ago, I kept my account to stay in touch via Messenger with friends and family, but I never go and check what people post anymore. With TikTok I only allow myself one hour a day, cause that thing is ADDICTIVE. And with RUclips I turned off the history, so it doesn't recommend anything. That way, I only watch whatever I can think of, and don't stay any longer than what's healthy lol
damn, you’re really doing it right - the youtube thing, i didn’t even know that existed ??? and yes, sometimes watching a movie feels like a chore or I do it because i “need” to watch a movie because it’s important or whatever, I really do need to clear my apps tiktok is so addictive, i spend so much time on it but i only let myself in bed, even then, it’s too much 😂😂 I need to follow in your steps haha
the hardest part for me is that when i want to watch something it isn't on my streaming services. And it keeps buffering online, does anyone have any tips for properly downloading films with subtitles?
there’s an extension for chrome that lets you add subtitles to movies !! i don’t have my laptop on me at the moment, but i think it’s called substital, i think ! if that doesn’t work, let me know and i’ll tell you a different way :)
ah, sorry! appendage, doubt date, cuckoo, longlegs,IT, american psycho , ghost story, fight club, grand budapest hotel, trap, logan, maxxxine, lamb, i saw the tv glow and civil war :)
I try to watch 2 - 3 movies everyday, and I don't have to think alot what to watch next it just comes automatically in my mind for example first movie i watch this month was Birth by Jonathan Glazer and then i remember missing Mission impossible dead reckoning 1 so i watch it next and now The Machinist is in my watchlist. Good video i subscribed
please subscribe if you enjoyed the video - it means the world and beyond 💖
Remember, the time you spend picking a movie to watch is the time the devil is laughing at you
i think he laughs at me too much lol
This is why I started targets like completing a list in letterboxd
good idea !!! i don’t even know what targets are on the app haha
@@PavelTalks I mean my target of watching a lot of movies every day, by selecting lists like imdb top 250, letterboxd all time top 250 etc
@@PavelTalks I mean I set my on targets like finishing a directors filmography or letterboxd top 250 of all time

I wish there was an adult version of that … ( even if there was, I feel like i’d still be like hmmm i don’t think i’m in the mood for this lol)

I haave a movie schedule. It helped me stop being indecisive.
i love the sound of this; do you prepare it for a week, or day etc?
I just set a goal of 100 movies I haven't seen before for the year, it feels like a manageable number because its basically like 2 a week
that was my original goal, 100 movies a year, it’s a good goal; I like yours that your goal is 100 movies you HAVENT seen, good idea :)
I've watched more than a 100 ( lots of old movies ) this year but not 1 short film . And 4 series. Thanks for the recommendation, I'll watch some short films too from now on.
nice one, i’m so bad at watching shows !! enjoy some shorts, they’re great!
sometimes im so bored I watch 2 movies per day
ideal day 🫡

It usually works really well when I have to sleep like idk nearly 11 12 and then somehow I could watch 2 or 3 in a row 🙃🙃🙃
i know the feeling lol, you could end up finding some gems so it’s a positive… kinda …
I try to watch 1 anime episode, 1 series episode every day and watch 4-5 movies a week😊
I love that routine, I wish I was that organized , i’m jealous 😂

honestly one of the main reasons I don’t watch that many movies is cus my tv setup lol. the glare from my window is too distracting during the day
black out blinds are definitely a good investment 🙌🏻 i can’t watch movies unless it’s dark, which is defo gonna ruin my eyes lol

I am so jealous of you - I respect that so
much, just a natural progression. Go you, i wish i was like that lol
thanks for the comment!!!
@@PavelTalks if I watch 3 movies everyday still i can't watch all the good movies in my whole lifetime. This is a cinephile curse, you can start too
What's your letterboxd username?
it’s PavelsMovie :)
