These comments make me ashamed to be British. Imagine having the gall to tell black people that you know better than them whether or not they face discrimination. Disgusting.
What a thoughtless comment. Whether or not people are discriminated against can be seen through statistics and simple logic. It's impossible to get rid of cultural racism but institutional racism on the whole simply doesn't exist. That's not to say black people aren't marginalized but that's got nothing to do with racism and everything to do with class.
Thousands of black people leaving Britain because of oppressive racism ?!

I like how the discussion about race is being more prioritised in the UK, I always felt this country treated racism as just an American problem so this is positive. I'm only worried that this discussion will be diminished once BLM is not trending or the protests have stopped
It's a legitimate concern. There were BLM protests in the UK in 2016...yet here we are again and what's change in the last 4 years really.
BLM’s platform is primarily Marxist-lite with a heaping portion of segregation and identity politics.

Education isn’t a British value. They don’t want it just like they don’t want an NHS.
I am also from Germany and I can tell you Germany also has that same problem...because we don't learn about German's colonial history and how much of an impact that had on those countries.
@Robert Gray i have spoken to multiple British people and have informed myself on what they are taught. They are not taught as much about british colonialism and the severity of the atrocities the british empire committed.
@Robert Gray that was the 80s, I'm 20 and we weren't taught about colonisation. We were taught about royals/ww1/ww2/MLK and the 60s, that was it. Its not a requirement in the education sector.
@Robert Gray nope. It is the education system that has stopped teaching actual history, in order to erase what actually happened. This revisionist history has taught people not to take colonialism seriously and have no problem with statues glorifying slavetraders and colonial monsters.

The Stigs English Cousin you’re on social media now. Social media is both amazing and an absolute sh*t storm. One, it helps spread positive awareness for issues such as racism and helps educate people from different points of view, which help as it puts less dependence on the mainstream media. However it can also be used to spread hate and discriminatory views, so we can only hope in the long run it pays off, but it won’t pay off without many, many negatives along the way.

@terry phidaheights Covid 19 deaths tell another story as the nurse pointed out. The NHS is failing BAME communities on every objective measure but there has been no explanation for the disparity. Fines for from the police in London for breaking lockdown rules, whites told off and let go, 52% blacks fined. Disparity in sentencing for the same crimes. Let's not talk about education and employment. Which areas of your life do you say you are subjected to racism from black people, is it when you apply for jobs? When you go to the hospital? When you are accosted by the police? In sentencing in court? I genuinely want to know so that I can factor this into my analysis of the current situation.

Google the murder of kriss Donald.
Tragic, but your point falls flat. Justice was and normally is served in cases like this, those men are serving life in prison. The men who did that weren’t police officers they were criminals, George Floyd was killed by someone who was sworn to protect him. It’s not the same. It’s such a lazy and pathetic attempt to draw attention away for racism against BAME people, despite all the evidence that shows it’s an issue, by citing an equally tragic, but less systematic issue. And how dare you exploit the murder of a teenager to undermine a completely separate argument. People are attempting to tackle a severe systematic issue that is backed up with statistical evidence, your argument is based solely on anecdotal evidence and can be easily defeated. I don't know where you went to school, but that was pretty much all we were taught about in history. Everything we were taught was through an anti western lens.
What we were never taught in school was basic economics, how to understand data or the evils carried out by other peoples of the world; such as the Arab, Ottoman or Barbary slave trades.
Nor were we ever taught about the Western ideals borne out of the enlightenment and the revolutions it spawned, and that it was these Western values that led to the abolition of slavery for the first time in history the World over. Or how the British Navy blockaded port to stop the slave trade in the aforementioned Arab, Ottoman and Barbary states.

@@shrimpfriedizzy The issue can be manipulated to suit an agenda, an agenda that has nothing to do with racism. It very much is a perspective.
The BBC being as impartial and balanced as ever!

A week ago we were #clappingforcarers and this included the police. Now they are a latter-day Stasi. What changed?

YES! Britain is not as bad as America but one thing has weighed on my mind for years is when a white woman cop who was based at Hammersmith Police station came to my house for dinner through a friend, she had so much to drink and was due on duty that very night. I asked her what she did in a drunk state, her respond was we go out and arrest young black guys for no reason at all. I was horrified, the worse was that they all drank on night duty, That said a lot about the system and it still happen to this day. I am a woman of colour but she said I was different as I was Indian.

Britain may have issues; however for some one who lives & works in North America a lot of the time, the answer is NO. People who compare Britain with the USA do not know just how fortunate they are. The American dream is over and even Americans are realizing it was a nightmare all along. The USA is a scary place at the best of times...
Go ahead stay ignorant it's easier that way for you isn't it. But then again Europe exported slavery, genocide, and racism to the world it was even them who built the US off that slavery and you still practically wipe your hands clean of that so no surpise you want to deny this until your blue in the face Your part of the problem sweetheart.
PS violent crimes have dropped in US nearly 50% since the 90's and are still going down so sorry it's safer then it's ever been and racism isn't any worse then it was we are now just getting slapped in the face with it after choosing to ignore it so long and it came to a boiling point.

My last relationship was with a black man. Im English (white) and the amount of racial discrimination I saw was unbelievable. I couldn't stand it and never allowed it, most times it would end in him dragging me away from ranting at someone for saying something. Just because I was born white dont make me better than any black man point blank. A man is a man no matter what colour his skin may be. #ICantBreathe
Why ask that when we know we have the same problem in the UK. What we need is to implement the recommendations from several reports, such as British /commonwealth history, McPherson, etc. Stop asking questions that we all know the answers to and take actions to move forward.
@Martin Woo you are one of the people that didn't want to accept it. You want to believe that it's an American problem, well its not, and it's here and always have been.
Exactly, they are just trying to buy time so they don’t have to make the changes ! How many years do we have to keep ‘discussing’ the same things . ITS TIME FOR ACTION
The founding principle of the BBC was to be unbiased and yet here we have an entire panel of people with the same view. Regardless of what that view is, it is wrong to be that biased. The BBC is failing the nation and needs to be corrected.
The BBC does not claim to be impartial about racism, and is very clear about that on it's website, so I don't really feel it's failing anyone in that regard.

"It could be us" why have they ever bn high on meth and driving under the influence then bn going to be arrested then resisted arrest? Because that's what it taken George Floyd to be in the situation that he lost his life don't get me wrong the police officers handling of it was disgusting and he's getting his punishment but it wasn't a innocent black man driving down the street that was ripped out his car and tragically murdered we should be talking about police training and how they need to be put through more physical and psychological testing before being allowed on the job not racism why are the media pushing this narrative to cause more division within our communitys ..
@Vadika Munster Oh such shallow view of the world. The comment displays lack of knowledge. Or are you playing devil's advocate.

As a Pakistani that was raised in a small town predominantly white town, I found myself being embarrassed of my culture and ethnicity a lot. And it took me like 16years to finally appreciate that part of me.
Coming from the North, if there was ever any racism towards black people, growing up I was totally unaware of it. The fact that the black kids chose to hang out with white kids rather than eachother, suggests it wasn’t much of an issue. Pakistanis on the other hand, or anyone who looked Pakistani, undeniably had a rough time. There we’re none in our school. They had their own school. And they didn’t get a mention in our history lessons.

There are hundreds and thousands of people in Britain who do not want to be here, but they have no choice. Colonialism was responsible for the destruction of their country economy, industries, ripping of their minerals including the dead of millions which has for hundreds of years led to continuous discrimination and hardship. Until you are prepared to equal the playing field of wealth distribution, I am afraid that migration will continue. Western population needs education and an historical prospective of how the UK came to be what it is today.
Where can I get the full version of the discussion..
All you need to know is the whole show is government bashing like normal on bbclabour
My point is that life is often hard as it is and if to your everyday issues you add having to deal with racism or xenophobia, it makes things way harder.

My point is that it's not the obligation of white countries to accommodate people of color. Their last few is "hard" only insofar as they continue to encroach into countries that don't belong to them.
When this is going to ended?
This is propaganda, it's going to get much worse.

"Too many bloody foreigners" is the most famous lyrics I would hear when I lived in London. I managed to respond to a group of retired women who lived at the YMCA in Ealing Broadway about their comment.
Here it is: if your kings and queens and government did not colonize almost 121 countries we would not be in the U.K. so take it up with them!

I haven’t watched this, but the US doesn’t suffer from systemic racism.
I've checked all the videos on this channel that go back over the last few days... and there doesn't seem to be anything on the brutal attacks that have been happening in London and Australia (even police being attacked by hordes!!), nothing about the riots and fires going on in nearly every state in America. But there is one stating Trump is thinking about military action, and people are wondering why?
As usual, great job by the BBC for reporting only what they want to show a completely one sided and view of things with extreme bias..... This is UK "Journalism"
Do your homework! There have actually been more peaceful protests that the riots in the US! But of course the person with the privilege who doesn’t deal with racism is like “oh the attacks on the police ” “The fires” 🙄 But doesn’t stop to think what has caused people to respond like this. How about we address that? Oh but we don’t want to address that because it makes those who play apart in it uncomfortable, it means you have to address that part of you that you like to pretend doesn’t exist. So we make out like oh people are just behaving reckless for no reason, so that the reason as to why it’s happening doesn’t have to be addressed! Because doing that makes those with the privilege of not having to deal with racism uncomfortable. Because it means they have to address the part they also play, through the stereo types, the ideas they have that black people are less than etc so they can maintain that illusion they have created that they are better 🙄
Is US and UK racism the same? Don't know. Are Americans waiting for a grooming gang report to be released as well?
With the shit that has been happening in Hollywood for the past few decades, grooming gangs wouldn't even get their attention.
No. Next question.
Why does everyone avoid the issue of What part the Royal Family played in racism. Be it statues or whatever. Until this issue is addressed nothing will change.
Because they don't care, the royal families have caused so much damage
When I was arrested and charged, I was denied bail and told by my lawyers that if I did not plead guilty I could be sitting in jail waiting longer for a trial date than the amount of time that they were seeking and that I could be given twice the amount of time or more for not taking "responsibility " if found guilty at trial.
So due to those circumstances, I pled guilty knowing that I was innocent, because I didn't want to sit in jail waiting longer for a trial date than the time they were seeking, especially when prison Conditions can be cruel and unusual and trial dates can be unreasonably delayed and convictions can be wrongful and appeals can be often denied.
I pled guilty knowing I was innocent because I did not want to deal with the stress, fear, frustration, malice, or the confusion caused by systemic racism.
I pled guilty knowing that Elizabeth May Terry (lizzie terry) made false allegations in order to steal twenty-three thousand dollars of furniture and electronics from me in retaliation for cheating with her sister
As a victim of systemic racism you do not committ crimes, you just suffer the consequences of crimes like an innocent bystander.
Systemic racism made me the victim look like the criminal and the actual criminal look like the victim. Even when you tell the truth they will make you out to to be the liar and then make the actual liar out to be the one telling the truth.
They will pick sides without knowing the truth or without seeking the truth, and then concoct or make whatever side they think they can make look like the truth.
Everything you say or do they use against you especially in the court of law where everyone in positions of authority are white or have to answer directly or indirectly to someone white. That's white supremacy. Racism, that has been perfected and systematized.
I do not need anyone to tell me that I'm innocent when I know that I am innocent. The video proves I'm innocent. The same video that the judge refused to watch.
I pled guilty knowing that I did not committ any offense, knowing that I was innocent, just to get out of jail and they knew that. Now that I'm out, I take that guilty plea right back. I giveth, therefore I taketh.
I shouldn't have went to jail in the first place. They will lock you up, ruin your life, take everything from you, then release you with nothing. That's racism. They didn't have to lock me up when they knew they was eventually going to release me. They could have released me from the beginning.
I can't help but think the answer is YES simply because the question even exists. At its heart, the question is itself a kind of gaslighting.
Satyasya Satyasya the question exists so it must be yes, hahaha great logic
@@rockinasock use your brain to understand what that means
Hell yes, the only difference is UK are not allowed guns, otherwise it would be the same as the US
A lot of white people are asking what they can do to prevent racism. In the UK, we need an education system that teaches about the horrors of the British Empire and highlights the fact that our power and privilege stems largely from the fact that we overran countries in distant places and enslaved people for our benefit. Even under this current government, we have seen the Windrush scandal in which people were denied their citizenship rights after decades of living in the UK, and a tower block burnt down in a predominantly BME neighbourhood killing many. There has also been a number of incidents over the years where young men have been killed on the basis of their skin colour. To rectify this issue, we need to face up to our history. Let's not glorify our imperialism, but take a stand against systemic racism and address the horrifying legacy of the British Empire.
You should make sure that they are also told about the horrors of the Barbary coast slave trade of the 17th century which traded in white slavery.
@@insanityrulestheday But surely emphasis should be put on European colonial expansion because of its sheer size and influence on the world. These were organised takeovers of countries/lives/lands, done without permission and by enslaving populations on a mass scale.
@@robertclark7919 So was the Barbary Coast slave trade which involved the capture of between 1 million to 1.25 million Europeans who were captured and sold as slaves in North Africa and the Ottoman Empire between the 16th and 19th centuries.
