    Did you know that the base ISO in S-LOG 3 is 800 and 3200 and for S-Cinetone its 125 and 500? Try it out it works great. Also, for me, the crop doesn't bother me one bit. I use the Sony FE 12-24mm f/2.8 GM, so at the widest with a 1.5 crop I have 18mm, I little vignetting but its reality easy to fixed in post. Works great for photo and video for me, and never heard a complaint.

    At this point it seems more of an issue with wanting a more video specialized camera than the a7IV not cutting it. If shooting the entire property at 60fps is a requirement for your workflow, and you're frequenting houses lit like dark age dungeons, just get the FX3 already. Makes 1000 times more sense than hanging on to the GH5s with completely different lens/accessory ecosystem. Grab the FX3 with GM 14mm, and be done with it. I've seen Brian Phelps' videos. See if he'd take a look at some of your RAW footage instead of the youtube video. Alternatively, play to the a7IV's strength. Use a mix of 30fps and 60fps, depending on the shot. Not everything needs 60fps. Keep that ISO at 3200(assuming we're talking low light). Add a few diffused LEDs with temp control to gimbal rig for fill light, to hit proper slog-3 exposure without moving over ISO 3200. Something seems off if GH5s is outperforming a properly exposed s-log 3 on a7IV that's sitting on one of it's native ISOs. This includes 4K60 crop.

    What are your settings among the ISO, shutter speed, and aperture? Have you tried slapping on the 12-24 2.8 GM. Maybe it's the native lenses that do better

      I have not tried that lens in particular, but the 10-18 is a native Sony lens specifically for the APSC system so I would assume it would be the best fit for the job and still encountered this issue. When shooting in 1080HD 60 with a full frame lens I get no vignetting and less noise, but its still there a little.

    Hi, Jeremy. Great video. I am deciding of getting a new camera for real estate. Choosing between GH6 and Sony A7IV. Which one would you recomend? I am scared of low light perfomance. Perhaps any other model you could recomend? Thanks!

    • @jeremydeihl
      @jeremydeihl  10 месяцев назад

      I would say it depends on what you're using it for. For photos I absolutely love this camera, it's my everyday shooter. For video it is my backup. If you are shooting big beautiful houses full of natural lights it will be great, but if you shoot a lot of darker houses with less lightning or lots of basements you might want to consider a different video rig. Like I said before , my GH5s still outperforms this camera for video unless I have talent in front of the lens and I need autofocus. That's the only time I choose the A7iv for real estate video work over the GH5s

      I have heard that particularly from people that shoot with DJI drones trying to do night time hyperlapse because the grain is pretty bad in low light, but I can say I honestly don't know if it's true. I know one thing, shooting real estate videos with the A7sIII or FX3 looks 20x better than the A7iv and I have never had any issues shooting in low light with the VLOG from my GH5s. Great question though and if anyone else in the community knows if this is true, please let comment below this!

    I use the 12mm laowa zero-d and Sony 16-35 pz lens and I personally havent noticed the vignette problems or terrible low light, but could just be cause I wasn’t looking for it. I came from the a7iii so the 10bit and slog3 dual native iso has been a game changer for me

    • @jeremydeihl
      @jeremydeihl  Год назад +1

      If I'm not mistaken the 12mm Zero D is a full frame lens right(I have that same lens for full frame Sony but don't know if they make an APSC version)? Do you shoot 4k60 on the A7iv or 1080HD60? The problem I encounter is when I try and shoot wide angle in APSC mode. The HD mode has less noise above 3500iso, but still in comparison to the GH5s there is really no comparison. It's not that the A7iv is horrible, it's that it's worse than every other cinema devoted camera. If you compare it to other hybrid shooters(like the a7iii you came from) it is def better, but compare it to an A7siii or fx3 it's complete trash in low light. I absolutely love this camera and use it ALL the time, the photos it takes are amazing, the video it creates when used at a native ISO is amazing, but once you start having to crank that ISO it's much harder to correct in post. Like I said, the GH5s is almost 5 years older than this camera and the video it produces is much much cleaner. So much so I had agents asking me why my videos looked so different(they were really asking me why my videos looked worse in as nice a way as possible), so luckily I did not sell me entire M4/3 system like I was about to. I switched back after 3 months of using the A7iv for my RE videos and I started getting messages from those same agents saying things like "I don't know what you did, but this video looks so much better than the last one you did for me!"
      Once I started getting messages like that from multiple clients I knew I would never go back to using the A7iv for that kind of video work.

      Yes, I use the 12mm with the 1.5 crop. That’s interesting to hear that agents could tell a difference. I thought about going the fx3 route, but it was hard to justify the extra $1000+ when all the videos about the a7iv release talked so highly about it’s low light performance.

    a7s3 is cleaner at high iso's. But i got to say, i never run into noise issues with the homes i have shot so far with the A74, and ive pushed it pretty high. I do a mix of 4k30 and 60. Feel free to watch some of my videos i have on my channel, I'd love to hear your opinion. But i will say your 100% on with the vignette. I have it dialed in now in premiere and its an easy fix with my Laowa 9mm. Yes its just another step to do in editing but its not a big deal. I would love to see some of your a74 videos and see how much noise your getting with it.

    • @jeremydeihl
      @jeremydeihl  Год назад +1

      I have a few videos I did with the A7iv on here (I used it exclusively for about 3 months for my real estate video work) so I have a few examples. Shooting in 4k30 is not near as bad as the noise in 4k60, but with my workflow for real estate in particular I prefer to shoot everything other than talking heads in 60fps. It's not as though the noise makes the camera unusable; it just requires more postproduction time, more noise reduction and sharpening, more vignetting issues all ending up with a video less sharp than it should be. I just find it way easier to use a camera designed for the purpose that I don’t have to do any of that extra postproduction work to. Sometimes I shoot 3 videos a day and have to turn all of them around by the next morning, why waste all that extra time and increase the rendering time of my videos, when I can just use the GH5s and not have to do any of that. It’s just not conducive to a good workflow for me personally, and when my clients notice that’s when I must really sit down and decide, should I keep shooting with this camera because it’s the newest one I own? Or do I continue using a camera that is almost 5 years old but does the job PERFECTLY with less work on my end. That’s where it became an easy choice. When shooting in light and bright rooms (like the majority of the shots from your two videos I watched: Real Estate Video Tour - Sony A7IV & Real Estate Video-Agent Walkthrough) the camera performs perfectly fine, but when I noticed it most on my end is when I started shooting properties with wine cellars and windowless basements with safe rooms. Rooms with no exterior lighting at all, just the house lights. That’s where I really put the A7iv through the tests and its where I discovered just how much better my old reliable GH5s was… And to think I almost sold my entire M4/3 system like 5 days before I discovered how bad the A7iv was performing in those low light rooms. I’m not trying to be a super Debby-Downer about it all and I’m not saying you should not use this camera because I still use it for lots of video work, especially stuff for autofocus or people on screen, I just make sure its something I can stick to one of those native ISO’s to do. I just think using something more suited for the purpose makes the shooting and editing experience much more enjoyable and less time consuming for me.

Still prefer the old GH5s for real estate videos and so do the clients I deliver them too. Not saying I never use it for real estate. If you have a nice house full of great light the camera will perform fine, but as soon as you start trying to film a small 1,300 sq ft house with a bathroom that has no windows you're going to encounter problems with the footage back at your editing rig. I do still use this camera for all my agent interviews or anything I am setting up lighting and showing people in.
