I definitely love this video thank you so much. I will defiantly be using this in a presentation for my students. I didn't know that about the juice from the greens either great wealth of information
It's called that as well! (or originally) I just used the colloquial spelling since I'm talking specifically about greens, and 'pot liquor' is the French it comes from meaning all pot juices. It was a personal style call ;) but good catch and glad you brought it up! Thanks so much for watching and don't hesitate to share!
Yes! And I have! I’ll take the liquid along with a bit of greens (and often little bits of smoked meat Ieftover in there) and just add some kind or starch (rice, potato), beans , short pasta.... OR my favorite: little stuffed tortellini. Maybe a little stewed tomato depending on my mood as well
Not n my family my father Cook as well as my mom...it was eight ten all together....I remember going to the butcher my parents go on the weekend it was fun . The butcher slice different cheeses n cold lunch mear

While I agree with the vast majority of what you were saying, I would like to add that in fact, W Africans weren’t vegetarian. They were historically pescatarian. Seafood was a predominant ingredient in cuisine eg 🥘Thieboudienne🥘😋
Fair. The point was that it was vegetable-based day to day not meals designed around a chunk of meat every single day- what ever meat. That would include seasoning a pot of food with dried fish, etc. Thanks for watching!
That's precisely the point of making such a bold statement, to call attention to the fact that it was not named as such until that point in history, nor was there a common sense of what a typical Soul Food menu would consist of... and for good reason. Thanks for watching!
Little known fact: All of soul food is indigenous American food. The food and the cooking techniques. There is an indigenous species of rice in American called river rice or Indian rice. That is the kind of rice we eat. The ancestor to the okra plant abalmoschus manihot is ingenous to America and it is my theory that like us genetically modifying teosinte to produce corn, we genetically modified abelmoschus to get okra. All of the food items on your plant is indigenous to the Americas. Fact check me.

It existed, there wasn’t a name for it. Or we didn’t name it.

Hello. Did you mention that soul food has some Native American ingredients?
:3 Thank your for teaching
Awwww YOU ARE VERY WELCOME! Feel free to ping me on any socials with questions or follow for what*s coming in 2020!: @MissKendraV
Very interesting. I like what you said about the diet of the West African, that it was essentially a vegetarian diet.
Glad you enjoyed it!
This western diet is in cahoots with the doctors, pharmacy industry, and funeral homes in my opinion.
Where I'm from it's not soul food it's dinner
Hog maws, not mogs
Lol 😆 who cares
@@yvonneharris2222 Positive critique is okay. I would want to know the name to be correct too.
