      1. Game's good now guys. You can mostly avoid stealth and climb ladders with cool guns that you find. You still can't keep them, though.
      2. Yeah we know the game has a bunch of poorly implemented, not fully developed mechanics that we might eventually have time to do something about. We are listening to our community blablabla but don't expect any of that any time soon because:
      3. WE ARE WORKING FULL TIME ON TWO DLCs
      Also, the game is going to be discounted for the holiday, you should totally pick it up. You're going to try our cool amazing new patch now too, right Skillup?

      I'm sorry but what did they not answer? I feel like they brought up things they themselves acknowledged was subpar, they brought up reasons (steam+holiday sales) for why they did things, and they said they're listening to community feedback? They even bring up changes.

  • @faboo2001

    I get that devs use these interviews for PR purposes, but that Outlaws segment was next level. The answers were far too safe or avoided saying anything substantial, and it was clear they were there just for damage control. It didn't feel genuine at all, and the interview suffered as a result.

    • @urazz7739
      @urazz7739 День назад +18

      The way I see it, if you have nothing substantial to say, then doing these interviews is a detriment to their PR, not a help. Why do you think Ubisoft has a bad reputation? Part of it is that they do a lot of these interviews where they don't give out anything substantial and/or lie.

    • @kaingates

      @Nickubus99 14 часов назад +1

      Wow! These people are damned if they do, and damned if they dont!! I think they did fine - and damage control is absolutely part of the process. They were very careful not to criticize the work of their co-workers (not their job) and they don't want to step on peoples toes and that is professional conduct (whether we like it or not). It means they have to answer things very diplomatically and not necessarily say the things that come to mind - but at least they are listening and at least they are trying. Most don't even bother these days.

      @jordannoell4222 I haven't played either, but the narrative for the hate train seems to be that the Jedi games delivered on their fantasy through a solid character story and enjoyable gameplay with souls-like combat and that Outlaws doesn't deliver on its Han Solo rebel outlaw fantasy through story or gameplay. Didn't read much on the story but the stealth and shooting gameplay did not seem fun. As an outsider looking in, Jedi Survivor does just generally look like a better game so I think it's just the usual internet dogpiling on a bad game or at the very least a poorly marketed game.

They don't want the past to overshadow their present so they kill it... but the past was what got the IP popular in the first place, so it ends pissing off the fanbase and ruining the IP. What they do tends not to be good because good creators know better than to do that.
      So no, they did not try anything new, just did the same proven mistakes so often made. Maybe added a few new ones too.
      And ffs, if a story lore and themes work, don't attempt to deconstruct it from within the story itself because the only thing showed is not caring.

The problem with Star Wars is that Disney and Lucasfilm as they are now, refuse to acknowledge the legends and expanded universe source material. There is literally whole series of books and comics with enough content to make multiple trilogies of films. They even took George Lucas’s plan for the sequel trilogy when he sold the company and scrapped it, changed it up and made their trash films which we know now had no plan and they made it up as they went.

    You don't need to be a game developer to know the basics of what makes good game design, if they just played their own game before they released it, they wouldn't have to go back and fix things like forced stealth. That's not something you had to wait for community feedback to test out that's something that could have been play tested before release.
    And then on top of all that to say most of the improvements for this update just come from the internal dev team and not community feedback? If that's true, maybe they could have just done them in the first place then if they are so passionate? This has been an insane PR push by Ubisoft + Disney for what is one of the most mid released games of 2024.

To me, lot of their "original intent" seems so obviously ridiculous, I don't understand how it was allowed to happen.
    Why wasn't more playtesting done, because they seemed surprised by some feedback from their audience, yet as I mention below, they also already knew? Weird responses some of these.
    I wish they could have hit some of the feedback head-on, instead of doing this sorta game director-y hand waving stuff. The guys answer like politicians instead of gamers.

    Between hyperspace ramming, Luke being cast out of the sequels the way he was, and Palpatine self-reviving in an exploding Death Star, the rest of Star Wars has been retroactively ruined by Disney, nothing matters anymore, and there’s nothing that can repair that. It seems more appropriate to call Jedi Survivor’s success a miracle rather than calling Outlaws an unexpected failure for this reason.

    • @thesamuraiman

Nothing exists 40m outside of your view, you can't even snipe in the game reliably because everything just spawns in in front of you. The bipolar lighthing also really needs work. I just watched the first couple hours of Stalker 2 and if this made a bad first impression to you, Ralph and Lucy, this game might just not be for you. This is exactly what many of us have been waiting for for years and years. I WANT it to be this dark, I WANT to be made to think what I'm picking up and what I leave behind, I want it to be brutal and challenging and punishing. I think this is simply a question of taste since I care little about Metaphor, Astro Bot, Warhammer, Final Fantasy, Destiny and many other games you recommend. If the bugs are really that bad even after the first patch that sucks and needs addressing. The performance issues suck as well but I would partially blame Epic for that since every UE5 game has this problem and who knows what the hell is going on in that engine that's causing the CPU to struggle so much.

They teed it up for you, man. WHY INCLUDE A FEATURE AT ALL IF YOU CAN'T REFINE IT AND DEVELOP IT ENOUGH FOR IT TO BE FUN? Please do better, man. I know you're not an industry shill, and the games media needs needs access to break stories, but you owe it to us as your customers/community and their consumers to ask meaningful questions. You missed similar opportunities with the STALKER 2 devs. Don't allow people to just use your audience for their PR.

    This will be an unpopular opinion, but in actuality of the giant AAA Studios Ubisoft is the one that Buck the trend of cutting your losses and the staff if you have a bad release. Despite what's in the air currently with Ubi being seen as a dying relic. I know gaming has been better for it. Seige, For Honor, division, Wildlands, & even Just Dance! All at least decade-long post-release Productions. The shake up on the Assassin's Creed formula seems to be a win when all the chips are counted for, and I bet Far Cry will be up for the same treatment directly. I applaud ubi taking quite a few at least what you would call asymmetrical bets? Phoenix Rising, the vertical whatever Battle Royale, Riders republic, oddball, Prince of Persia, X defiant, battle core Arena! Ubi for sure needs an audit I don't know that anyone in the world could argue against that, and I have no doubts that they need Massive Internal change starting at the very top of the executives floor, with pain every Direction as far as one can see. On the other hand where is constellation is there is only one real Direction and that is to dig to the foundation and rebuild. "Standing on the shoulders of giants" and such is the only rational direction in a world that every day is more determined to prove competent leadership will have no quarter, & quarterly profits are your vision statement... nothing less nothing more.

      And the NFT games, the staff abuse cases, the staff lay offs, the executive bonus payments, the racism towards Japan, their belief that their games are AAAA, the terrible monetization of their single player games. I really could go on, this company is peak anti-consumer and just in general full of terrible people. The mainstream media and big independent reveiwers positivity towards them is absolutely crazy, though to be fair we all know it is about access.

    The Stalker patch from yesterday improved the experience significantly. Again. Btw. enemies don't se you through walls. They hear you. Stealth works just fine. I personally play Stalker for the combat, the experience of the Zone and the "being there" rather than for the story. The story is more a backdrop that generates missions than to actually drive the gameplay. This is not an RPG. It is a sim. I don't know why people always want to be able to "make their own way" in a game and when they can do exactly that they ask for a compelling story. Stories are always interruptions and restrictions. Enjoy the freedom you have and make your own way for once. Stalker lets you do it. And regarding the items you find: Everything in Stalker is a currency. You use half of it and you sell the other half. You lose weight that way and upgrade your gear with the money. This is part of the progression system. Apart from that there are mutants that have you go quickly through 20 medpacks in a fight....I you're not playing rookie... And lastly, there are artifacts that increases you carrying capacity. All those things are not thrown in the face of the player, just like the fast travel system. You have to find it out. That is playing Stalker.

    It was absolutely an unacceptable launch but we should be willing to give things a second chance. There’s a good star wars game there, especially in the final 1/3rd and the changes they’ve made so far have been good. I know it’s extremely cool to be negative now but I appreciate them trying tbh

    I only started playing outlaws a few days ago when the last big patch went up, and, to be honest, it's been great. It absolutely excels in a few areas (especially environment design, sense of atmosphere, immersion in star wars) and it's just okay in others. I haven't identified anything terrible about it.
    This game also has a lot of little details that are just plain charming, lots of interesting character moments, lots of things you can do that you wouldn't expect. I think this game is being sold short by many people in comment sections.
    If you enjoy games that have great environment design and sense of atmosphere and immersion, and especially if you're also a star wars fan, I expect you'll like this. There are many portions where I've just enjoyed drinking in my surroundings, looking at the architecture, the spaceships... Finding a half unbuilt a-wing in some dirty hangar was such a treat...

    Stalker 2 is definitely messy as hell, but I really think that's a feature, not a bug. The film equivalent to me is something like Dark Star or Eraserhead; fixing the technical issues with these movies would also take something from the vibe - and the broken-ness of Stalker 2 seems like the game's strongest active metaphor - a little of a the-medium-is-the-message effect for me.

    I got Outlaws on sale recently, so just now playing it for the first time. For me, it feels like the hate is overblown. Even if the gameplay is kind of simplistic, I'm finding many things about it rather charming. I would give it 7/10 overall, but because of having to average highs and lows. Inconsistent is how I would describe the quality.
    So it's a shame that I feel like this interview didn't do them favors, especially reading the comments about it here...
    I hope that while they "fix" it they don't just mess it up more...

      Well, the thing is that I'm pretty anti-woke and I still think Outlaws was unfairly targeted. It's miles away from Veilguard in that department, that's for sure. As a pet lover, there were plenty of moments with Nix that I found genuinely touching. And it's an open world game that doesn't hold your hand. There's plenty there to like for some people, and it isn't woke culture war stuff...
      The main problem I'm seeing so far is just that the gameplay feels old school in a way that isn't necessarily good. But it's still fun enough to keep my interest for the exploration.
