Owner of machine here. Have used it 4 or 5 times since picking it up, has been running great. Thanks Bruce! Also, that gasket sealer must be from factory, I never put anything on it.
Interesting find Bruce, I had my money on the spark plug wire lead shorting out on something since it was that metal screw in style, very lucky to not have it running and take the engine out when the rod slipped off. Looking forward to seeing it fixed!
looks like nowadays in newer engines u still find more faults then older style engines or clone types engines, good video sir looking forward to your part 2 on this pressure washer.
hey Bruce you sir are the only mechanic I watch on RUclips because you do everything amazing and you are also the most awesome guy at fixing anything thanks for making my day with yet another great video taking time to make us the videos really great job keep it up ur friend way down in Columbus Ohio
Finally a stumper. One of my thoughts was if it has a low oil sensor unit that has stuck thus shutting off spark--but not so. Looks like you have it diagnosed now for the repair. However you may have summer air in the tires and it needs to be changed to fall or winter air. Looking forward to the fix you have.
Bruce: Those metal spark plug boots cause lots of problems. I have replaced several in my shop, also you may be able to compress the valve and put the push rod back in its pocket without removing the adjustment bolt. Thanks for the video.
This one has me a little confused. If the intake valve is closed how did the plug get wet? If after you cleaned carb and attempted to start, and then it coughed/burped again. Where is the engine getting its fuel source from? Ok,you got me curious on this one big time.!
I think the intake tube had so much gas in it that when the piston pulled down it just cracked the valve as it overcame spring tension a tiny bit. MY guess. Like a compressor. The push rod laying there was crazy eh!!! I can't believe it even ran after. I still wonder about the valve cap if there ever was one.
@@BrucesShop I have had similar situations in the past. Sometimes it will hold the valve open and there is zero compression. Check this out. ruclips.net/video/w2Gg3eng1YE/видео.html Thats crazy too.
I have been working on mowers for about 60 years. I have found maybe 3 times an engine would not run because of the plug. I have equipment that is 40 years old with the same plug still in it. Runs fine.
Well done ! Where is your celebratory “Haa”!!! I do that when I win a battle with some small engine issue that I have been fighting with. Must admit - I got that from Mustie1 . Looking forward to part two !!

I have the same one. My issue is that after every use the carburetor is filled with gasoline and needs to be drained before it starts again. Any ideas how to fix that?
Hi Bruce, Can you give me some advice We're,did you get your scissor trolley lift from , what's it called ect..like to get one my self...if they do them here in jolly olde London town ? English Mik.
@@BrucesShop I was doing two things at once so I missed your comment about it. Any way I rarely miss a video of yours, waiting for part two. Thanks so much.
I knew you would come up with it yet, WOW. I never thought something like that, I know I once had a customer bring his snow blower to me after his son in law tried working on it. The carb was dry and getting no gas at all. I have no idea what he did to it, but the seat on the fuel inlet was pushed in so tight, there was no fuel getting into it. I had to take the float off and get the seat out and reposition it so I could get gas coming in, then no matter what I did, the carb kept leaking gas. So I went from no gas, to not being able to stop is. I eventually got most of the gas to stop leaking, and then had to redo the entire carb over again to get it to start. I never thought the push rod would be off on a new motor. The big mystery is, if you except the job, haha Why did it come off and is there something wrong deeper inside yet. Your mission is to find the real reason now. lol
My thoughts too. I thought maybe there was a rotator cap missing on the top of the intake valve but in the end I think they miss-adjusted it at the factory. (No quality control)
Great catch Bruce, what an odd problem! Wonder what caused that push rod to pop off like that? You mentioned gooey stuff and intakes/carbs. Reminded my when I bought my Bolens tube frame a few years ago, pulled the carb and found blue RTV everywhere. Over the jet, in the passages, in the horn, in the bowl, they even got a little on the gasket! flic.kr/p/2hhfRh3 flic.kr/p/2hheS5X flic.kr/p/2hhdd6e
That's why I charge more for working on a Honda or chonda carb cause of so many gaskets..... And knowing which goes where and in proper order..... But wow someone used gasket maker..... Wow the rod slipped off.
This one opens up a whole long list of questions, doesn't it? First, the engine must have quit in use -- didn't the owner notice that?? Somehow the valve clearance got so large that the pushrod had enough room to fall out -- but after just five operating hours? On some Honda OHV engines, the rocker is known to crack in the center, abruptly causing excess clearance (and almost no valve opening). I don't see such a fault from here, but I'd look over that rocker. Or the pushrod somehow bent. Doesn't instill confidence in these Honda clones!
Bruce Pender you can get the manual on line, I had a curb find one. Same issue, gave it to a buddy of mine, he had a hose and wand. Down here, the market for pressure washers is limited only to those who never had one!

First rule of starting pressure washers. NEVER try to start WITHOUT water attached and running. Without water, the pump seals will quickly self destruct.
These carbs have sealed ports and hard to clean out small channels. Had to restrict air flow to get it running . After awhile it corrected itself, but after each year would be hard to start and run. SHITTY CARB Also does not have fuel shut off or fuel filter.... probably the cause of the problem.

The screw that holds the bowl on has a hole in it and that plugs not everybody thinks to check that
Not on this model. like the honda's this one just holds the bowl on. The gas goes into the throat thought the hole in it.
If the fly wheel key sheared it throws the timing off
That is true Thanks

Those look bad. I talked to the owner of the pump. He say he did not add any thing to glue to intake to the carb. Must be a factory adhesive.

Just a thought, if the engine was at high rev and under full load and then suddenly shut off, that abrupt stop can do funny things...
True Good point.

Exactly. It only ran for a few hours. Not set at the factory maybe??????
Maybe the valve guide is a little too tight and bound up when it got hot enough after a long run, just like the Briggs & Scrapyard Inteks.
@@chrisbeck8182 As it only ran for a few hours I think it was adjusted loose at the factory. They don't have the quality control we have.
I'm at 7:20 in the video. from my guess, water in the carburetor bowl.
b my guess too
So is the moral of the story on OHVs check the valves first when stuff isn't adding up?
Well this is rare i don't know.
Never simple, is it?
Man. It (the intake valve) was even letting a bit of fuel through on the intake stroke due to suction. wow.
