Making a bownjo - experimental DIY bowed instrument using a drum as a body

- In this video I make a bowed instrument that uses a small drum as a body and has a basswood neck. You can find similar instruments in several cultures of the world. My inspiration came from instruments like banjo, yaylı tambur, erhu and Iranian kamancheh.

Always fun to see you make another makeshift yet carefully crafted and very playable instrument!
Thank you
i love it, stringe instrument + banjo body is a formula for success
What a great instrument! It's been a while since we've seen you make one... enjoyed every minute of the video! All the best from Portugal!
Thank you, greetings from Greece
Next time make violin.
I love the wood burn measurements
🤷🙆👏👏👏🙂10 minutes of pure relaxation.
Excellent, as you always are! Terrific little instrument and a very entertaining vid. I never saw someone putting rosin on the strings before! Something new everyday. Cheers Dimitris, great vid.
Thanks Mark. I wasn't sure about rosin on strings but it seems to work
This sounds a lot like a tagelharpa but without the droning strings
Nice spike fiddle! I've made stuff along these lines too. I really like that idea of using the woodburning tool to mark the fret positions- I might have to borrow that 😁
I always really enjoy your instrument builds, my friend. This has a nice sound to me...a bit like a tagelharpa
Thank you
Ditto comments below. It's been awhile since you made an instrument. It amazes me you keep finding different ways and materials to make 'Notes'.
thank you
Awesome! Missed the musical instrument videos!
Excellent smart-music-instrument project!!
Thank you
Hello my friend,
Again great design. An interesting musical instrument. Fine Arts; They are the things that the human hand, head, and heart work together. I watched a great design. Congratulations. See you. Big greetings.
Thank you very much
@@ScrapwoodCity 👏👏👏👏
Sounds like a tagelharpa
That's great you keep coming up with interesting instruments
Thanks
An amazing musical instrument.
GooD)))))))
Thank you
So good
Thank you
Brilliant!
thank you
To su gusle starac. Svaka cast
sweet job
Thank you
How about a 4 String version tuned like a Violin that also has frets.
Perhaps in future. We'll see! ;)
@@ScrapwoodCity It should use Black Diamond Violin Fiddle Strings cause they're special.
That wouldn't require a whole new project. Just a change of the nut and bridge, I would imagine. Also an added tuner.
@@KingLouisII And also metal frets. Black Diamond Violin Strings are special.
@@KingLouisII That might be a good update.
Well done! 👍😉
thank you
Pretty cool!
Thank you
9:56 for playing!
It is fine work
thank you
Very interesting. Well done pal
Thank you
The end result reminded me ever so slightly of a rebab
fantastic, but how can u bow nylon strings?
It was kind of difficult. I am not a bowed instrument player. Someone who has more knowledge on the subject could find nany things to correct on my project.
It would be worth adding a small horn at the bottom of the resonator, like on the Stroh violin
Ι'll do my research. Thanks for the recommendation.
sweet sound bro
Thank you
what diameter rod did you use?
Two thumbs up! Your audio is very good. I enjoy the sound of sharp tools cutting wood. Very satisfying.
Thank you very much!
Wonderful ! Is it a traditional Greek instrument ?
Thank you. No it isn't
@@ScrapwoodCity It's your invention, isn't it ?
decent bro
thank you
Biggles that was an understatement
It's a rebab
Tuned WAY too low
I think you are right! It would work much better on a higher pitch!
