  • This Video helps you to understand the differences when configuring windows cluster on 2016 and 2019. Also it helps us the DBA to understand on how to configure VNN & DNN both together in Azure.
This also covers the various scenarios in single subnet Environment. It explains Clearly why we need Load Balancer for SQL Server Always on Listener in Azure.

APR concept was amazing, you explained well. one thing I want to add here to explain in simple way why we need Azure load balancer to work AG listener, because in "Public" Cloud APR protocal which does mapping between VM IP and MAC address is Disabled"

Hello Javed sorry need to correct you it's not APR . It is ARP (Address Resolution Protocol). If you are on a single Subnet then you have to use either Load Balancer (VNN) or Distributed Network Name (DNN). This is because Gratuitous ARP will not work in any Cloud.

@@vamsychiranjeevi9619 how does that arp things get sorted out with multi subnet?

@@roshanak3307 Well on Multi Subnet we need not worry about this as SQL knows where to fail it over because of the "OR" Dependency. When it comes to Single subnet it doesn't know where to failover with out the support of Load balancer.

@@vamsychiranjeevi9619 thanks, but still i have a question, why cant we use the OR in single subnet? Allocate 2 ips to each node from the same subnet..there is something else

This video is so technically excellent! I've watched many Azure Deep Dive webinars from Microsoft that were not as detailed as this.

Hello. Love your videos. I am very interested in the multi-subnet failover for AG. Will you be releasing a video on the topic? Thank you.
