Microsoft is taking away your ability to control your own computer.

Yes, one step at a time. For example I recently got a new laptop and I initially set it up with a Microsoft account, then created a local account for myself. Later on, I logged into my MS account, then logged out and tried to log back into my local account. MS opened a setup window as if I had just created a brand new account and it tried to force me into logging back into my MS account. I had to use Ctrl-Alt-Del to escape that window and get back into my local account. The other thing I've noticed is that MS tries to force OneDrive on your Windows 11 system whether you want it or not.

It's a good feeling to leave Micro$oft behind and be running Linux Mint now.

We use professional DAC with things like balanced XLR connections, there is no favorable comparison between DAC in/out and built in audio. I'll have to check ours now, we have a little over 50 systems in service like this.

Something which happened to me this morning in Windows 11: one of my apps disappeared. Windows Security misidentified it as a trojan and quarantined it. I had my notifications silenced, so I didn't see the report for it. Once I figured out what happened, I went into the Windows Security protection history, filtered by "quarantine" and restored my app, but not before I tried reinstalling it twice. Just an FYI for anyone else out there experiencing this issue.

I have been having to restart my PC each time I'm using my NI USB soundcard in order for it to work. It's only been happening since the weekend.

At this rate, M$ is going to be the biggest garbage creator in the world....... _"If we've effed up your system, just dump it and buy a new one. Maybe we can make you an offer you can't refuse."_

No problems on 2 Win 11 Insider Beta and Release Preview channels with external DACs connected via USB.

I'm only just starting to pay attention to these security updates, so I could be wrong. But have these last few updates been causing more harm than the entire Windows 10 lifespan combined or at least close in the span of a few weeks?

In general, I'm not seeing problems on personal or work devices, I have around 60 desktops at work on win11 Education, and that might be the difference. 23h2 and 24h2.

This can not continue like wtf? It broke systems yesterday. People could only use cash again. Windows has become defunct.

Microsoft recommends to stop using DACs? Are they kidding? Many average DACs cost $100 to $500 and DACs for high-end stereo systems can cost up to thousands of dollars. From the humble Cambridge Audio DACMagic100 to the high-end Chord Dave DAC, telling users to "Stop using" their computers for established functions is pure incompetency. As if they're trying to maintain Windows with not much knowledge of it left in the company.

I confirm poison water is poision water regardless of what percentage of the H2O has poison in it or not. I could not care any less😂
Whereas in the Linux world where there's an update that's confirmed to come out, 99.99% of time that update improves and or fixes something. The opposite has been true with the majority of Windows updates throughout the past 15 years

It seems every time I turn on my PC something is broken. My Realtek control panel just opens and shuts down. I tried for hours to try and fix it. No joy. So I had to download another program to take its place. So as of the time of writing this 1/28/2025 I have paused updates on my PC until 7/23/2025. This is BS M$. I might as well go back to Windows 7 and take my chances. Started to learn Linux Mint.

It is called outsourcing software testing, why pay for real software testers when so many people will do it for free

Its called become defunct if you are a corporation with server farms they are all dumb box for the end user they use enterprise but to fix it you have to get into the server farm in the main frame which takes people ages to do. They wont just give you a remote login you have to physically go there. The only solution is LTSC or IoT LTSC and that is very difficult for 1000 dumb terminals.

You must have missed Windows 8, some computers sold with Windows 8 didn’t have working audio after the first update and were not compatible with further Windows 8 updates. A coworker had a lot to say about Windows 8.
