i have played the entire series but i wasn't thinking about those games at all when making this
that game's dodge mechanics and bros attacks will be too insane to replicate in a online multiplayer situation, so i didn't think about it so we can have a game out very quickly (I hope someone else will be inspired tho)
the games i took inspiration from are:
-Earthbound (played and finished recently, theme/enemies, some mechanics)
-Paper Mario 64/TTYD (Most game mechanics)
-Toontown (Multiplayer Battle)
games like Adventure Story and Bug Fables motivated me to see that a game like this would be possible in roblox

I like how the story utilizes nostalgic concepts and things OG players would be familiar with e.g. sword fights on the heights, builderman, old models and chat UI style, studs everywhere, etc. very nice
The currency in this game is even tix, you can notice it in the end of the battles
me who grew up with guests with black arms and legs with a grey tank top was fun
This is actually super cool! Its unfortunate how overlooked actually good roblox games are. You should be way more popular than you currently are
I mean, the group of block tales is only locked to staff members and there is no real other platform to really discuss / ask about the game so that may probably be a reason.
It's true, and very painful. I've seen genuinely interesting games lose to toilet tower defense, of all things.
Well tbh I bet most of us got here because of the Algorithm, it Blessed this project with potential Alpha players

you know, this REALLY reminds me of the Combat Mechanics of Paper Mario, and i LOVE it, incredible piece of work ya got there!

Ive waited so long for an good rpg turn based and being multiplayer, that gave me an immense hype
We did get Arcane Lineage, but dang, I hate the typical MMO games.

there also was adventure story but its discontinued as of now
a 4 slot position like in darkest dungeon, where certain atacks hit from certain positions to certain enemies would work great in this game with players moving around and having to communicate, i really like how this is turning out
I’m not sure if that’s work with paper Mario styled combat like shown here but I do think that someone with the know how should get to making a Roblox adaptation of darkest dungeon at some point. (Blackest Baseplate?)
Darkest dungeon style of combat with roblox game will recreate public decaying winter lobby again (0 communication in strat) (fun though)

Oh my god this game looks amazing as hell, I missed old turn based games on roblox, when adventure story wasn't discontinued.. Please continue working I love the game so far!
Also there's so little turn based games on roblox too, I really hope we get this soon and the retro style animations reminds me of hexaria demo it's so good.
I love turn based stratgy games, like noobs in combat, this is also really great
I just prefer like simple turn based, like bug fables and adventure story or any mario and luigi game on the ds/3ds

It's like if the Mario & Luigi games, and Earthbound had a baby on Roblox, and it's the most beautiful and unique baby I've ever seen.
Seriosuly, the animation style, and everything looks perfect, I'd put a million hours on this. PLEASE don't let this die.

I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw the enemies actually ragdoll when they die.
like I'm not even kidding that detail alone makes me SO much more interested I need more turn based RPGs with ragdoll deaths

Maybe the equivalent of flying/spiked enemies could be like an enemy with a really big tennis racket to knock superballs away
comically large tennis racket laced with gunpowder to make it even more over the top
The spiked enemies would have a comically large tennis racket/baseball bat lit on fire, and the flying enemies would be enemies with a comically large shield and a superball sized hole in the shield for absolutely no reason.
there are flying and spiky enemies, but the spiky ones aren't polished enough

so far, the quality is almost equal to some payed turn based games ive played, the story is great, overworld looks creative, and the animations look great. cant wait for the release

Seeing this 5 months later, I just have to compliment you (and your team, if you have one) for making so many improvements in just that time span. Almost everything about the UI is infinitely better, the story appears to have been mostly scrapped and replaced with a refined and overall higher quality version, there’s unique music for each boss (and each boss has actual story and area context instead of just… existing), the sound effects are better, and so much more. Props to you for improving so much so fast, and I can’t wait to see where you go from here.

I starved for cool Paper Mario-esque turn-based games in Roblox after I played Adventure Story. This is so hype and will be looking forward to play it
The animations in this are really good! Even with a low framerate you managed to make them look very lively.
as an old '07 roblox user, i really love the use of classic building styles, music and sounds combined with new-school gameplay and effects. you nailed it in a beautifully balanced way and im excited to play this

I remember a really good turn based game called adventure story that vetex had been working on back then (the owner of Arcane Odyssey)
sad that he ended up letting the game die to focus on Arcane, but it's nice seeing more turn based games like this. I really hope you carry through with this :)

I love the mario and luigi games and this reminds me so much of those games, whenever an alpha releases, I will be playing, keep up the amazing work!
As a tb rpg lover I really like this, has the ui and general feel of earthbound, the action commands of every mario rpg, similar countering system and ability badges as paper mario, and the pasive abilities for puzzles more like M&L, this has a lots of stuff from my favorite rpgs with a very unique coat of paint amd i love it so far. Im looking forward to see what else is being cooked up

1) When do you expect the game to be released?
2) Is a demo going to be released?
3) Are the block/counter timings strict? I can't see it from the video.
4) Since the game is inspired off Paper Mario, are there going to be extra Party Members? (Like, in the battle, but you can't control them)

2) If It doesn't meet above, there will be a Prologue + Chapter 1 Demo
3) counter/guard is the same Button, normal guarding window is within 0.2s before enemy impact and countering is half of that which is 0.1s before enemy impact
4) Party member abilities were just converted into different weapons, so Bombette from paper mario 64 would just be dynamite you can use in the overworld and in battle; your party members would just be other people u play with in-game

And if not, at least do a PVP mode so you're your friend and you can fight against other people and it won't lose its fun, I'd say.

A recommendation I would give is if you’re further on the project try implementing more attacks with different rhythms and other actions (kind of like Mario RPG).
And since it’s a duo based game would be great to have duo attacks (just like in Mario & Luigi games)
Now *THIS* has potential
Not sure if thats just unfinished animations but it feels weird that some animations are way smoother than others like the walking and taking damage of the enemies compared to the ball throwing
But i do see the enemies taking damage animation to make sense if there was like a hit effect around them
taking damage for everything is intentionally done like that to mimic paper mario 64, it's just two keyframes going back and forth
there is a impact particle when enemies are hit but apparently it's too subtle or may be going behind the enemy rather than above it
it's important to make animation simple whenever possible to lessen the overall workload of animating like a hundred enemies
overworld animations are intentionally done like that so it is mimicing the old roblox animations but with an even lower frame rate
all animations run at most 12 FPS
love the retro style coming off of this,the sounds,the items,the enemies,all are from old roblox,good job on re-creating that feel from 2006-2008 roblox
