A great comparative test between an economical ball and a premium ball Rick! I play Srixon including: Distance, Soft Feel, Marathon, AD 333. I decided to try some balls with a medium price point tried the Taylor made distance balls and they are my new favorite for sure only like 13 bucks a dozen and they fly amazingly for my shot shape and club head speed, I hit my first 300yd drive with one of those bad boys. Love the above green camera angle. Really like hearing your input on golf balls and equipment. Even though I am a high handicap, much of what you present is extremely helpful. Keep up the great work.
I have been watching you for about 6 to 8 years! Youve helped me lower my handicap at least by 7 i would LOVE a new SIMM driver with a stiff shaft as my m1 is getting a little worn and less bouncy for lack of a better word
Played with some of these today after watching your video. Did seem to be quite long, but still got lost in the bushes like most of the other balls I use
I recently bought the Srixion marathon balls because it was the cheapest in the shop and I'm broke and I actually really liked those. I usually play with a Pro V1 or a high end TaylorMade ball, but the Srixion did well too. I did struggle around the greens because of it being a harder ball, but not too much. Long story short: if you want a cheap ball that is pretty good, go with Srixion.
Thanks for the comparison its been useful. I used to use Pro vs untill I found that some of the srixon (ad333 qstar ) actually gave me 15,20 yards more. I think its because of my swing speed isn't fast enough for pro vs as I'm average 90mph. 🤔
If a ball has a crappy feel at impact, especially with the driver, I tend not to swing as well. Plus, I don't find a massive distance difference between any ball at my 19 handicap level anyway. I'm currently using Srixon Q-Star (not tour) and love the feel, so that sells it for me.
I have played golf on and off for a few years, mainly to get a day off work playing in charity days but over the past few months actually started taking it a bit more seriously. As now a Mid/High handicapper these balls are great. I cant rip a ball back I generally lose one every now and again, I can hit it 300yds down the middle I can knob it 10 yards into a bush but I bought 2 dozen of these last week from Hazel Grove AG for less than £25. You really cant argue its a very decent ball for the price point.
I got these ball for a try and have hit a few into my net at home. I get maybe 50 full swing shots before they crack. I've not seen anything like this in other balls. I've had a mixed bag of balls that I've probably hit 300+ times without issue. The thing you really notice with the Srixon Distance is that after about 30 hits, the distance drops dramatically before it finally cracks. I wouldn't use these for a game unless i was switching them every few holes.
At the end of the day, they’re just a great value for money ball. Perfect for those new to the game and those with a higher handicap. I personally quite like them.
Hi Rick my husband is a big fan of yours. Mid handicaper (15) he tried many golf balls (pro V, Vice, Wilson Dx2...) and now he just uses Inesis distance 100 (6 euros for 12 balls). Have you ever considered reviewing this brand. For him: best value for money (they got lost in the wood the same as a pro V).
I have to tell you. Despite being a distance ball, hard, supposedly, and so forth. I used to love finding one and play it cause it'd indeed go longish, super durable, and on the pitch and putt course I used to practice at, the thing even bite and mini-backspin. Seriously. They'd bite incredibly well. The touch is mid soft for short game and putting. Very very pleasant. NOTE you have not yet started hitting them. Leaving the comment.
It's the combination of the brand and price point mate. For the average golfer they give you a sense of a serious golf brand on the tee without breaking the bank. They have been selling loads of these for years. I really like them, but slightly prefer the Srixon Soft Feel in the green box. These balls are just a good brand and good on the pocket. Perfect for many amateurs. ATB MMMD
48 golf balls for the price of 12 Pro V1s for the average golfer I can see why they’re the best selling! If you lose one it’s not that big of a deal and for feel whilst Rick can tell the difference I doubt many normal players like myself would really feel the difference.
Started using this ball about a year ago. Before that I was using a Nike soft feel distance golf ball which came in at the same price range. Preferred the Nike ball but can’t complain about the srixon. Don’t think I could afford to play golf if I played with pro v1s given the average number of balls I lose over the year so £10 for a 12 balls is great value.
Great review as always. I like the fact the you do reviews on things that people on a budget would use and I feel its fair and honest. As a new golfer I love that Thank You
Srixon make a great ball for a good price. I've bought the green box (not sure which ones they are) and love them. Probably a best seller because I think a lot of people recognize that playing a quality ball can really affect your game, but you don't always have to spend pro-v 1 money to get a good result if you're a higher handicap player.
Love me some Srixon. I found a Soft Feel on a course one day and it led me down the path to being a Srixon fan boy... I even roll with a set of Srixon irons now.
I've been playing Vice golf balls for awhile now, and I'd like to see you review them. The buzz is that they're as good as Pro V-1's but at a fraction of the price because they're only available online.
Doubt that Rick would ever compare the Vice as I’m fairly certain he is sponsored by Titleist. Might be wrong? Great balls the Vice Pro, they scuff up a little more than the PV1, however play exactly the same and are considerably cheaper.
I use these golf balls a lot. I have 20 hcp and these ball are fantastic. Good distance and feel for the low price. These balls is good for golfers who losing 3-4 balls per game. For that price is it the best golf balls for mid handicapers. (sorry for my english)
I have purchased the TaylorMade “Distance” balls in the past few months for $11 USD. I can honestly say it’s my favorite ball to play (and it it’s probably psychosomatic) but I have improved my drives by distance and fairways hit. What I have noticed is Amazon will change the price from $11 to $14 but give it a couple days it’ll be $11. Even like you say it’s the feel around the green these balls are perfect for that! Highly recommend you try!
Good golf balls for about ten bucks. Not bad. I am using the Vice Pro Soft myself. Love the price and performance. Definitely long and soft when you want it to be. And the price is quite good when you buy 5 boxes. They actually compete well with balls costing almost twice as much.
RICK! I just saw an ad for the “hammer putter” 100% sweet spot. Will take 5-10 strokes of your game, guaranteed! Jack would be the all time money winner if he had the hammer putter before the hammer driver!
I’ve been using this ball for awhile now and found that it scuffs up a little bit. But after each round i throw it in the bin and use a new one next time. For the price why not. All round it’s a ok and works for me
I usually use the srixon soft feel. But when I couldn’t find them in white, I got a 24 pack of these srixon distance for $19.99. I’m pretty happy with them.
The thing about good golfers is that a soft ball around the greens will help you shoot a couple strokes lower consistently because they can stop the ball on the green, and they are good enough to control their drives with all that spin, a forgiving driver is nothing compared to a low spin ball to a beginner golfer

I almost bought Pro V1's just to play like Rick Shiels, now you're telling me some 10 quid balls can make me play like Rick Shiels?!
Whatever a quid is!
Very well put together, simple and to the point. Awesome Rick!! Big Fan
the pro v1's are top tier and for the giveaway I'd love the cobra speed zone
I get free pro v1s at work at the course everyday Bc people leave em in their carts 😁
@@blakedabloke6456 same lol
I have been watching you for about 6 to 8 years! Youve helped me lower my handicap at least by 7 i would LOVE a new SIMM driver with a stiff shaft as my m1 is getting a little worn and less bouncy for lack of a better word
Rick “Distance is on the box” Shiels 😂
Played with some of these today after watching your video. Did seem to be quite long, but still got lost in the bushes like most of the other balls I use
Who remembers when these were about everywhere and were the common mans ball😂😂😂
April 2089 a really hard golf ball
I recently bought the Srixion marathon balls because it was the cheapest in the shop and I'm broke and I actually really liked those. I usually play with a Pro V1 or a high end TaylorMade ball, but the Srixion did well too. I did struggle around the greens because of it being a harder ball, but not too much. Long story short: if you want a cheap ball that is pretty good, go with Srixion.
Personally I always clean my golf balls ready for who ever ends up finding them! Just the sort of person I am
Thanks for the comparison its been useful. I used to use Pro vs untill I found that some of the srixon (ad333 qstar ) actually gave me 15,20 yards more. I think its because of my swing speed isn't fast enough for pro vs as I'm average 90mph. 🤔
“It wouldn’t be a Rick Shiels review if we didn’t cut that thang in half”
If a ball has a crappy feel at impact, especially with the driver, I tend not to swing as well. Plus, I don't find a massive distance difference between any ball at my 19 handicap level anyway. I'm currently using Srixon Q-Star (not tour) and love the feel, so that sells it for me.
Who else came from the insta live stream?!?!?!
Thanks mate
Rick Shiels Golf any time!!!
I can't play golf anymore due to health issues! I get my golf fix vicariously through you Rick!
I personally quite like them.
don't hear that very often "I'm gonna hit me 2 iron next" lol You rock Rick. Thanks for all your videos, research, and honest advice.
Lets share these vids with friends get Rick's channel to 1 millions subs. Best golf channel on RUclips
Loving that ur alway honest on this cheap golf balls and not trash talking them!
My only hole in one was with a Srixon soft. Been playing with Srixon soft since.
I've used the marathon, soft, nice feel. The Callaway chrome is nice. I used a bridgestone e6... they are real nice. 1st hole-in-one with than.
Brilliant upload, and good fun! Rick, the cinematography of your videos works so well with the stellar content. Keep doing what you do!
Looks exactly like the srixon q star when you cut it open. Also, i cut open some z stars and they were only 2 piece.
Played with these yesterday. Definitely travel a bit further then previous balls i have used. Cheap as chips aswell. Winner
I've been playing Vice golf balls for awhile now, and I'd like to see you review them. The buzz is that they're as good as Pro V-1's but at a fraction of the price because they're only available online.
John Jenkins they’re available at Walmart
Doubt that Rick would ever compare the Vice as I’m fairly certain he is sponsored by Titleist. Might be wrong? Great balls the Vice Pro, they scuff up a little more than the PV1, however play exactly the same and are considerably cheaper.
Ugly Patriot guessing you don’t watch a lot of videos then..... rick always mentions he’s only sponsored by Nike for his clothing and that’s it
Thank goodness I found your channel, being a brand new "golfer" all of your content is a big help. Cheers Rick.
I use these golf balls a lot. I have 20 hcp and these ball are fantastic. Good distance and feel for the low price. These balls is good for golfers who losing 3-4 balls per game. For that price is it the best golf balls for mid handicapers. (sorry for my english)
2 dozen for 11 quid at sports direct, absolute steal! It's what I use every round
Easily the best golf channel on RUclips. Thanks for doing you Rick!
Would love to see you do a review on the Taylormade RBZ golf ball variants??
I have purchased the TaylorMade “Distance” balls in the past few months for $11 USD. I can honestly say it’s my favorite ball to play (and it it’s probably psychosomatic) but I have improved my drives by distance and fairways hit. What I have noticed is Amazon will change the price from $11 to $14 but give it a couple days it’ll be $11. Even like you say it’s the feel around the green these balls are perfect for that! Highly recommend you try!
I just found a taylormade distance on the course the last time I was out and I was super impressed!
Srixon balls are quality. In the US, the top sellers on Amazon are: Callaway Super Soft, Pro V1, Super Hot, Warbird, Pro V1x and Chrome Soft.
I actually use these, without this knowledge. Got then because they were fair priced and I have no complaints. I like them 🙌
Nothing like watching a pro work a divot... so satisfying
The thing about good golfers is that a soft ball around the greens will help you shoot a couple strokes lower consistently because they can stop the ball on the green, and they are good enough to control their drives with all that spin, a forgiving driver is nothing compared to a low spin ball to a beginner golfer
Dude, your videos are so informative, and down-to-earth. Always keep posting!!
