I was homeless from 2009-2011. My husband died, the economy went bad, and I lost my job plus everything else i owned. In and out of homeless shelters, I soon learned that there was big money in these homeless organizations. The upper echelon employees make big money. Pouring this money into big charities or government orgs doesn't mean it trickles down to those in need. I finally got my footing again but I had to achieve this on my own. Unfortunately, the demographic overpopulating your country now is the real problem. They're being taken care while the indigenous are left to suffer. If benefits weren't going to the wrong group than a lot of problems could be solved.
I've been homeless a couple of times and thats with autism. Every time it was a result of the government withdrawing benefits from me. I've just spent 20 years caring for my disabled Mother, she was wheelchair bound, I slept on a fold up bed in her living room for all those years. Today just happens to be the 4 year anniversary of her funeral, the way carers are treated before and after they lose their loved ones is abominable!
Ive been on the edge a couple of times but always managed to drag myself back. The damage that has been done mentally to a lot of people in this country, by successive governments is a big part of this, people cant cope and they are overloading us more and more. These billions they are promising for housing....they arent going to help a 60yr old single bloke, it will be to house people who have no right to even be in the country. When my mum passed on after a few years my dad gave the council house back to the council. Back then they evicted my brother and myself. Pinned to the front door was a 30 day order. No offer of a flat etc. Ended up in digs but worked stopped, ended up on the streets, didn't drink or take drugs. The feeling of being on the streets will never leave me. Things worked out after I moved and retrained. But will never forget that feeling.
My brother's ex wife went back to live with her mother after they divorced. When her mother died the council told my ex sister in law she had no right to stay there and made her homeless.
I was homeless as a child. My mum and dad hit bad times after my dad suffered severe brain damage due to a car accident. You never know what each day will bring and be grateful.
Councils in the sourh coast area are outring families in caravans because there is no housing. I volunreer at the YMCA. Most guys come to us from the streets. Lots of different reasons. We were due to refurbish the premises, badly needed, but its all been put on hold since the elections as the council is broke. Lots of talk, very little action. We do our best with very limited resources. Thank you for sharing your story.
I met a girl with 3 children , she has to keep carting them from one hotel to another . She has to put them in different school all over the midlands . They are lovely kids . She just wants stability in their lives but she is not priority for council accommodation??????

It is a terrible situation that some people find themselves in at any time of the year. In such a caring society no body should be without a safe place to live especially when children are involved. When you think that nobody cares and you have no option. The government should put something in place for the people who need it. They can house asylum seekers at the drop of a hat can this not extend to their own people who find themselves feeling unsafe and unwanted?? Be kind to those less fortunate than ourselves and remember you don't know what you have an can lose it in an instant..
I don't know if you recall my first interactions this channel. I was homeless, living in a tent in Birchington. I was made homeless age 53 During the pandemic. Thanet Council did Nothing, I was given a homeless officer and told to ring her and let her know where I bed down every night. It took 3 years to get somewhere and I had to move away from all my friends and family. I lived in Margate for 14 years. Having to start all over again in a strange town knowing absolutely know one is also Daunting.
In this day and age there shouldn't be homeless on the streets, both political parties are to blame they say they are going to do something about it, throw money at it, is their answer. The fact that illegal immigration is a cause with 1.5 mil housing shortage, that will be given not to our own people!!
There are many reasons for homelessness. Three important ones are ex military who can't deal with the return to civilian life, especially if they have PTSD and another is children in care with dreadful pasts and no family to go to through no fault of their own - once they are adults some end up on the street. The third is people with severe mental health issues who would have been hospitalised in the past but it's now 'care in the community'. These are all tragedies. Maybe let's not politicise this one. It is not a party political issue, no government has had a real solution. Let's see what this latest government comes up with.
I became homeless in 2010, lived in my car. Sought help from Salvation Army. Joined Social Housing register and got a brand new 2 bed maisonette to rent after waiting a year!
I only hope that EX Military get priority, but being ex mil myself they will probably be shoved to the bottom of the list. We have given a portion of our lives to the defence of this country and are treated like scum.
63 mckenzie. I agree but try finding the information you need when you have mental health issues. The most successful housing is run by ex mil but are overwhelmed with the people needing help.
When they've brought enough people to their financial knees, they'll announce their CBDC to "save" everybody, lying about how wonderful it is and starting everyone off with the free "money" to get them started. The people suffering need to know that this is a deliberate plan and they must not fall for it.
Hi Andy thanks for sharing your story like your self I got very close to being homeless when my parents split up and they went bankrupt and lost the house. I was a young 18 year old and had nowhere to go as my parents were staying in friend's house and it was too much to ask to take in a 18 year old as well.for me it was one of the hardest times in my life and it could have gone either way. Fortunately I had very good friends that looked out for me and helped me at that time in life but the one big effect it did have was it made me very determined that this would never happen to my family in the future.this was a long time ago now and with that motivation have worked very hard over the years and my business has done well and now I'm a landlord with tenants and understand the other side of renting and treat my tenants very fairly .it sometimes easy to judge people but from my experience it wouldn't have taken much for my life to be totally different some people don't have good friends to help them when needed.thank John.

Im currently more or less homeless this is the second time ive ended up here first time i was young and clueless no drinks or drugs had a job but trying to afford a roof over my head was difficult at best i trimmed everything i could i cycled 15 miles to work each day. After many budgets i realised living alone in bricks and motar is just not possible on basic wages and a single person. I brought a van and moved into that van and lived in that for about a year saved money and sorted myself out until i met my ex we both worked and rented a place together built a life together we have a son but when the relationship failed I couldnt put my ex and son out so i signed the house to her and i moved back into a van and due to unsecured loans from rough financial times i was left with no option but to go bankrupt the van died and was beyond reasonable repair but i managed to scrap it for enough to get a small boat (with some help from my grandad) and this is now my home (6ft by 20ft) luckily im mentally strong and i can survive and im now starting to turn the corner and build myself back up.
I hnow someone who was very rich at one time.lived in a beautiful house two mercedes on the drive.a lifestyle you could call it.used to deal in commercial property.the crash happened.banks cashed in.lost his home.got divorced. Lost everything.from a guy doing well he now lives on his own in a small flat on his own still works but in a not good paid job.it just goes to prove that you can have it all one day then its gone the next.

I came perilously close to being homeless in early 2005 due to marriage breakdown. It was the worst time of my life and i could count on one hand what money per week I had to live on after paying extorbitant rent and bills. I have just received my new rent increase and letters from both power providers kindly reminding me the price cap is changing. Sorry to drone on but it is difficult to keep your head above water as a single person too. Think the right to buy did nothing for the country as money was not used for replacing lost housing stock and high rents are the result. Millions flooding into the country too where are the homes coming from? Did hear some time ago that 250,000 homes needed to be built every year for the next twenty years to solve the problem.
Labour last time all but eliminated rough sleeping. The tories in govt systematically strip money from all our public services. Their priority is and always has been to make wealthy people richer. After 14 years we have more foodbanks than Macdonalds the highest tax burden in 70 years the highest cost of living crisis in decades. Only Labour put our interests first. They aren't perfect, they will make mistakes. They have just given 3 million workers a minimum wage rise and given the NHS 22.6 billion. Deported 10k people more measures in place. Do you think Reform will help working people? Why? Mr Farage still has no constituency office in Clacton one of the most deprived areas in the UK. He had the second worst attendance record as an MEP so voters aren't his priority. He didnt turn up to vote on the budget....

I had no skills the labour government paid me 375 pound a week in tax credits to stay at home and look after the child. Funnily enough as a proud man who didn't want handouts but there's was no work due to the huge global recession. I saw the waste of labour. I remember ESA payments that kept kids in education to keep them off the unemployment figures. Blair created a whole sub class of people who don't strive they just claim benefits. I didn't ever want another labour government and i ain't even 40 yet. Not everyone has the same experiences!

I’ve been homeless. It’s destroyed me…has taken a long time to get passed it. I never feel secure or safe - a hangover from being homeless
