I've been doing some research into personality types and board games for a few years now and I honestly have no idea where the notion that INTJs excel at chess came from. I myself am an INTJ and suck at most board games (which was the reason I started playing them - I wanted to work on that 'weakness'). Well, guess what. Turns out it's the types that are good at remembering a huge amount of details (Si dom or aux) or are able to manage chaos of info in their heads and put it to good use in every possible way (Ne dom/aux), eg. if there are a few ways to win the game. The problem with Ni is that it's overwhelmed by details and is always trying to narrow everything down to only what is essential to achieve a given goal. That doesn't work with board games like chess or, idk, Twilight Imperium :) On the bright side, we are practically unbeatable at detective and survival games. One of the best survival games of all time - Robinson Crusoe (2012) was created by in INTJ, Ignacy Trzewiczek.
Yes! My adult son, an entp, loves games. When he describes them to me, they sound fun...But all those details! He has gravitated towards DnD. The openness attracted him. The only aspect that sounded fun to me was the mystery of the quests or the intrigue of the characters. --intj
Fellow intj 5w4 I agreed with so many things, down to hobbies! Music, yoga, running, and no need for games that have too many steps/rules. Very affirming to hear another intj woman saying people thought she was extroverted. Also the disappearing even with family. Yep, happens to me too. P.s. my husband is an esfp and he and I laugh a lot together.
