@Fantasticbrownie99 Lack of air speed isn't a major problem in itself. Kirby has always had bad airspeed, yet he was top tier in 64. Other characters who have been high tiers (Luigi, ICs, Min Min, etc) also have low air speeds, but make up for it. Kirby doesn't need more airspeed, he needs a projectile to reliably approach/force approaches in neutral. He has plenty of potential canon copy abilities to make that possible.
@@DSmith3279 I was thinking the same. Replace hammer with cutter, and make it a spammable projectile. It's so odd that Kirby only has final cutter, but not the base ability.
Honestly it's a combination of: 1.) Lack of character knowledge 2.) The gap in potential between top tiers and low tiers not being as massive as past titles 3.) Most importantly, these players are just THAT talented and know how to use their mains strengths effectively (:
I think it's also because so many people were gaslit into thinking that OTHER characters were actually 'underrated' and 'secretly OP' (think the more niche ones like Lucas, Pit, Isabelle, Robin, Lucario etc.) when in reality those were the bad characters, and ones like Kirby, Pichu, K. Rool, DK, etc. were the actual really solid characters.
I remember back when I tried playing SU online as Kirby, and knowing that I'd get mopped in the standard 1v1 ruleset against online players, I decided to turn off rule limits so I could get a variety of games. One time I encountered a fox that was running the stamina ruleset who spammed his gun, and I remember dreading going into that fight. The moment I knew Kirby had potential was when I managed to knock that Fox off stage, and kept him off by catching every one of his attempts at recovery with ariels. We both drifted back to the side of the stage, but before he could use another move, I footstooled him to make it back on stage, which ended up taking his last stock. I've never felt so accomplished in the game since I managed to combo Fox off stage, and ever since then, I've always rooted for Kirby. I've never been the best at fighting games, especially when up against people who use good characters with strong combos, but I've always been one for underdog characters, and I think that love for underdogs originated with Kirby.
Kirby was genuinely never bad, people just weren't aware of his strengths until in recent times As early as 2019 he was doing good, and his meta due to me and the Kirby's y'all know like JeJa and Guilheww have been continued to push Kirby to his maximum potential. Its because of the two i mentioned who've been able to travel and play more often is why people finally start to see how good Kirby actually is
I think I’d also like to shoutout my favorite low tier mains JaZaR and Tsumusuto with Dr Mario and Peanut and Tarakatori for Little Mac (HMs to A8Z KO Kou and LiiMac)
I hate to “errrmm actually” but lukewarm has gotten top 8 at a major before and I think Kirby’s actual best result was when both guillehew and jejajeja won b tiers in the same month, crazy stuff
Apparently that Lukewarm top 8 wasn't a major (by the definition that Lumirank has now) but a superregional and while I do think the B tier wins are fantastic Im going to value the S tier run more
I'd argue that almost making it to top 8 in Luminosity Let's Make Moves is the most impressive. That's a top 12 finish in a stacked major while solo maining him. And he was only stopped from reaching top 8 by Tweek.
I'm going to watch this later but right now I'm going to guess why the bad characters win all the time with amazing players is because the amazing players know the fundamentals of Smash Bros. Like Tehken :p
Tavares what are your thoughts on the huge amount of viable characters in this game? As a spectator I love it but I've seen some competitors complain about it, the need to learn so many matchups etc.
@vexingvexillologist7554 I would very much appreciate if the next game would have less characters with more development but it is pretty cool to see new players with rare characters pop up
It's because Kirby isn't "bad", he's a solid mid tier. This just keeps getting proven time and time again.
Honestly, and the only “bad” thing about kirby is just his air speed, and I feel that’s what sets him back since his moveset is pretty decent

@@djdrizzy9139 I nominate Cutter Kirby. Top 3 copy ability for sure. And it's the most common one throughout the whole series.

Cuz 64 is completelg different. A character like him having bad air speed sucks. Makes him vulnerable@@djdrizzy9139

Pit is not in the same category as those three lol. Otherwise agree.
@@TwinHacari sure, i can accept that tbh
I wonder how many controllers lukewarm goes through with that insane mash.

I know it might sound like a nitpick, but I feel you can’t have Liimac as an HM, when he’s the highest ranked Mac rn.
Angel: Mark my words I'm gonna be winning tournaments with Duck Hunt one day

Forgot quidd!!
K Rool is forever and always be my goat. I think if Lukewarm consistently went to events, he wouldnt be looked at as such a bad character.
Personally I think k rool is underrated he’s at worst mid tier
k rool is S tier
