Everything about this band is criminally underrated. The Guess Who are arguably the most underappreciated band, Burton is certainly the most underrated voice in rock, and Domenic is NEVER mentioned in the realm of great guitarists.
Burtons the Bomb!.....What a voice! We REALLY did grow up with THE BEST music 🎶 Didn't we?
Yes we did!
Absolutely
Indeed but w/o Randy not quite the same
Add CCR-Deep Purple -the guess Who-- all rockin at the same time-among many others
We sure af DID!
An extremely large group of dedicated fans are hoping to see overdue iconic Winnipeg band The Guess Who enshrined in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. C'mon people! ☝️💯
(4 days ago)...
You have my vote peace to you my brother if that applies.
@@rurdy2rk380 Right on bro! ✌🏼
It's becoming readily apparent that exclusion from the Rock HOF is the true badge of honor.
Don't sweat it.
I wish but, there are some American Women on the judging committee.
They and Steppenwolf should've been in years ago.....
THEY NEED TO BE IN THE HALL OF FAME!!
The rock n roll hall of fame is a joke. 4 guys who think they are the Gods of music.
The hall of fame are run by a bunch of clowns, not even Jethro Tull are in there smh
I think it speaks more highly of artists that they are snubbed by the idiots who think ABBA and rappers == rock and roll. I wish that piece of crap would slide into Lake Erie and disappear.
top ten band 60 & 70
ATTENTION FELLOW ROCKERS: I live near the Rock n Roll HOF! The reason The Guess Who and other bands are not "yet" in the HOF is simple. They cannot put 65yrs of musicians in all at once because if they did people would only need to go there once. So, to keep it fresh and new, they only induct 6 or so a year. I can assure you that it's a GREAT museum! Other great museums are Bethyl Woods Museum (Woodstock) in New York and the Motown museum in Detroit. Check them out online or better yet........in person! PEACE OUT!!!
I was with French band Les Variations and we did the "farewell" tour with Guess Who and I have to say Dominic Troiano was one of the badest-ass guitar players I've ever seen. On stage as in this video they had all that white equipment (also Led Zep's quad PA and Dominic had 2 Marshall stacks AND 2 Leslie cabs with Marshall heads and some kind of modified Echoplex. We would be backstage and he would punch those Leslie's in and it would knock you down it sounded so good. They all were great. R.I.P.
Let's get this band in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!! Fabulous MUSIC!!
They are one of Canada finest exports ❤🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇺🇸🇺🇸☮️🥰
Burton is an entertainer.
He gives 100+% 💯 of his voice, music & lyrics to his fans.
His life is music. 1974 was difficult, Dominic wasn't from Winnipeg Manitoba..he didn't fit the band..he wanted to change the kind of music. Burton was the leader since 1970.
In 1975 he broke up The Guess Who and went solo.
He is a survivor. I've learned so much from him, listening to his interviews, etc.
It's now the year of 2024.
Burton is still Rockin' 🎶🎹🇨🇦❤ 4:33
Domenic was from Toronto. He was a brilliant guitarist and gifted writer. I thought "Flavours" was a natural evolution from "Road Food" once Burton fired the drunks ( his words ) and got a top quality player.
What an amazing performance. I wish I was born in the 50s-60s to have been able to see these guys in their prime. But alas I was born in 2000 😂🤷♂️
saw The Guess Who in 1971; with my late brother...miss u bro RIP
More recently, I heard 'Hand Me Down World' on the radio. It just juiced me & I said "fook me, that band was great"- I forgot how great....
That led to me buying a 5 CD set called Original Album Classics, put out by Epic, I believe. (I also have the same sets for Jeff Beck & Argent...)
I am on a total Guess Who venture now !!
God, the album tracks, like Sour Suite & Palmyra ? Whew !!! Good God damn, they were great !! They totally fit my early '70s sensibilities, from Joe Walsh, Zappa, Genesis, Yes, Steely Dan, ect....
🚬😎👍
Same here, I only had Wheatfield Soul and the greatest hits, then I got that 5 cd set. Slept on it for a bit, then saw Robert Lawson’s book Wheatfield Empire for sale on Amazon and said what the hey and bought it. Then reading along to the book and listening to the albums, I ended up falling in love with all their albums. What an awesome band
This line-up of the GW gets short shrift, but it's the only version I saw in person, and I was so impressed by Domenic Troiano that I named the son my ex-wife was carrying after him. My Domenic is now a new grandfather...how time flies
One magic night, I think in October of 2001, I saw the Cummings, Bachman, Peterson, Wallace and McDougall line up. It was an absolutely dream come true. Wished I had a chance to see the line up with Winter and Leskew, too.
Kudos to Burton for keeping the band “true” along the way. What Kale has done to adulterate their amazing Legacy is beyond a travesty.
The legacy (insomuch as the average person is unaware of the numerous line-up changes and who played on what) is intact. Nothing that happened after 1975 matters.
Best Canadian band of all time!
Agree..I'm from Brazil... Pelé RIP😔🙏
This is basically the transition period of Randy , who had already left The Guess Who to go form BTO .. The guitar player in this video is Toronto based guitarist Dominic Troiano ,, who incidentally was a killer guitar player 👌
Kurt Winter and Greg Leskiw repalced Randy. this is years after Randy left.
BTO is Fantastic🎸
Fantastic band. The best rock singer ever.
Just fantastic... the R&R Hall of Fame is a joke!
it's not about who is the best. obviously.
Great band as were GFR NO HALL! WTH!!!
I remember seeing this the night it aired. Burton is wearing the exact same suit/shirt he wore on the cover of his solo album with Stand Tall.
How is this band not in the rock and roll hall of fame I mean please!!!!!
They will be....they cannot put 65yrs of musicians in at once..give it time.
They just asked Dolly Parton to be inducted into RHOF but she told them she doesn't deserve it, with so many that do and her being a country singer, she respectibly turned them down 👍🏼 She did mention that she might have to do a rock album now... 😂
At least Canada recognized...1987 they were inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, and in 2001 they were given a star on Canada's Walk of Fame.
The Canadian Music Hall of Fame is an extremely low bar compared to the USA and UK. Lower than even Australia and New Zealand.
Simply superb! This is what you call talent!
And don’t forget, there was very little (if any) editing or filtering of these shows back then. This is what they really sounded like. Authentic INSANE talent.
Great rock n roll shows in the 70s send me to stay. I'd redo my 4 yrs in the Marine Corps, just to be there. Thank you Canada.
The Guess Who has long been my favorite music artist of all time, not least because of Burton's voice. He sounds just as great live as on record. Thanks for posting this video...
I won't be very appreciated for my comment but - He burnt out his voice for a good cause.... He's Canada's Rock n roll hero. Thanks Burton!
@@quiltedpine7027 I can't buy that! I read that Burton's heavy cigarette habit caused nodules to grow on his throat which had to be removed surgically. That's how he ended up with a nasal voice.
Man, I was already into these guys big time then I stumble onto this footage?! Here in Jewlie of 2021 and wondering what happened to our world.
One word, "Great".
Great mini-concert. Shows the band so well. Not just "American Woman" and "These Eyes".
My first concert was the GW in OKC in 1974. Love their music! Timeless.
Wow 🤩 I guess I thought they were in the R&R Hall Of Fame....✌️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Burton Cummings!
Those were the days and loved The Guess Who and BTO, these guys were badass. This was an interesting selection of songs for this show. Glamour Boy isn't one of my favorite GH songs, but it sure did exemplify just how awesome Burtons voice was. Not in the HOF is another level of insanity
Been into the band since the early 70s!!!
superb classic rock
Saw them with this lineup, driving in my friend's car the steering wheel comes off in his hands so drove the rest of the way with him pressing on it, we weren't going miss them
wow,this is awesome
These guys really played well live... even back to the old Winnipeg TV shows which are fascinating. Great great video history here.
So much more than just a rock band! My hands down favorite band from the 70's.
Dancin' Fool - what an awesome mid-70's rocker! Killer vocals and a killer riff.
Dancin’ Fool one of my faves!
Imagine, Burton was only 26, just a kid, so talented!
I think that song was their last hurrah. As usually happens with me that's when I woke up and got turned on to them. They broke up soon after. Similar thing happened to me with; The Police, The Michael Stanley Band, The Doobie Brothers, etc. I'm a fool.
@@larryhall2805
They put out one more album with this lineup called "Power in the Music" it kicks ass!
Also this New York radio broadcast is well worth listening to...

Saw Burton Cummings Feb of last year before the lock down. He still has it all.
He lives in Moose Jaw Saskatchewan.
Be gone you punkers, thumbs downers and other haters. Every great band has at least one clunker. Greatness is never all perfect. This Guess Who is as good as any other version. In spite of Burton’s comments, Domenic Troiano is the best guitarist the band has ever had. They’re a million times better than some who are in the HOF. Not being there does not affect my thinking that they are one of the greatest bands of all time with or without Randy Bachman.
Yes, without doubt, Troiano was the best guitarist that The Guess Who ever had. By the way, saw them on 2/14/20, in Biloxi. The present The Guess Who was also great i that concert. Time moves on. Things change. Life goes on. Enjoy what we have.
Domenic may have been better technically, but I still prefer Kurt Winter's style and musicality. Apples and oranges, I know, but.... Still, I am pleasantly surprised at the full sound the Guess Who got here as a four piece. They pulled it off quite well -- a tip of the had to Mr. Troiano is deserved.
NOPE Kurt Winter !!! 💯💯💯
RnR Hall of Fame worthy? Most definitely! Between 1965 and 1974, The Guess Who placed 21 singles on the Hot 100, six reaching the top 10, including "American Woman," which held the top spot for three weeks. Fifteen times the band hit the top 200 LP chart, three times reaching the top 10. And that doesn't include Cummings' solo success and Bachman's hits with Bachman-Turner Overdrive.
The Guess Who's music stands head and shoulders above practically any group to ever enter a recording studio.
Just like Todd Rundgren, he too should be in the RnR HOF just like the Guess Who. Very political, I have emailed the HOF why some Rapp groups are in there and not Rock n Roll groups.
They absolutely must be put in the rock and roll hall of fame right goddamn now!
You know, for the time, the GW really rocked hard. I really like this version with DT. His guitar work really has some hair on it and that makes GW rock harder.
How can this have so few views? I don't understand it. And yes, Garry fantastic.
The best music has already been done…
I'm an old guy drummer, and wow! Was I surprised when Garry started soloing! This really woke me out of my semi-stupor! Way to go Garry! What a great drummer you are! Just like when you guys played St. Louis, Mo. in 1971 Yeah! My All-Time Favorite Band!
Garry is the best damn drummer ever in rnr...
When this version of the band broke up Garry expressed his disappointment saying, "We were just getting good."
@@patrickdruhan6143 I'm surprised he said that! They were HOT long before that! I saw them twice in St. Louis, Mo. And Garry did a drum solo that blew me away!
@@ogredad55 I think Troiano forced them to be better players. Garry was down for that, Cummings was not. After the breakup Cummings said he appreciated Troiano's skill, but he just wanted to plonk out chords on his piano.
@@patrickdruhan6143 I'm surprised to hear this! They were better than good long before this! Thanks for sharing, Patrick.
Awesome ...... pertinent .... music for all times .
They had everything. Jazz, rock, blues, soul, the harmonies, etc…
So good,, these guys can really lay it down !
Ah, my Favorite Group! And Garry's drum break is Dy-No-Mite! And Yes, I'm an old drummer also. I picked up a lot of lix from that guy!
"Long Gone" is quite the serving of nightmare juice. At least it opens up to give Garry some much deserved solo time.
Sounds like Zappa
Supposably it's about a former manager I think. You have got to hear the Electric Ladyland radio broadcast. This tour.

Great to watch Domenic play! What a marvelous band they were!
seriously....Troiano was such a great guitarist
Great guitarist, too bad he never quite found the right band. He should have made it way bigger but with both the Guess Who and James Gang he came in when those bands were past their best days.
@@thelastperfectman4139 Guess Who was not "past their best days" and enjoy a strong following some 50 years later
Burton Cummings wasn't happy with Troiano.
@@rp7326 Why?
Great footage! What a band. Gotta love Burton’s voice
One of the all time great voices in rock.
Domenic troiano great guitarist
He is outstanding. I really wish this particular line-up of the Guess Who had stayed together longer. Think they could have produced some really strong stuff, and Troiano seemed like a good fit.
Wow thank you!!! Greatest music I’ve heard in a loooong time 😊😊
Guess Who my first concert, before I could drive!!
He may not look it in this video, but bassist Bill Wallace was eventually a schoolteacher. He was granted a leave of absence for a Guess Who reunion.
Too bad his drinking and bitterness caught up with him. Hopefully he's learned from it
Fabulous clip
Why doesn't anyone ever mention the drummer, Garry Peterson? He's one of the best drummers ever.
This edition of the Guess Who had its moments. Burton is digging in to the piano, and I love Dominec Troiano's guitar work.
One of my all time favourite bands, and they happen to be Canadian eh!
True, but I would've loved to have seen them play "No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature." IMHO, that has to be *the* most bad@$$ number they *ever* did!
For my money, "Canned Wheat" was *the* definitive GW album. The band were at their absolute pinnacle of writing and playing prowess, and the album showed levels of subtlety and style that made it really stand out from their other works. "Minstrel Boy" and the rollicking extended romp that is "The Key" are probably the most outstanding tracks on that album, but "No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature" is top of the heap in terms of showcasing their immense songwriting talents.
The story behind it is that Burt really loved the opening lick and wanted to go one way with it, while Bachman wanted to go another route entirely. In the end, they agreed to do both, with Burt's version first and Randy's second.
Or at least that's what I heard, way back in the early 1970s.😉
Still an awesome performance from one of Canada's true pioneers of rock!
@@That70sGuitarist: rock pioneers - PERIOD - but, NO question; Canada contributed MIGHTILY to the genre's evolution.....
@@ogam5 Damn straight! There were literally dozens of amazing bands from Canada back then, some of whom achieved massive success in the US and internationally as well. Canada was positively overflowing with towering talents back then, from Rush to Triumph, Max Webster to Frank Marino/Mahogany Rush, April Wine to Joni Mitchell, Neil Young and many more, the list just goes on and on. Truly an epic time for Canada and Canadian music fans.
I feel positively blessed to have lived in those tumultuous times.😁
Please notice the great Domenic Troiano played Patially through a leslie organ spinning speaker ( right behind him). Gave him a very unique sound. Saw him with Bush at the Bitter End West in L.A. Fabulous band!!!
Yup. I understand Bush had the Canadian copyright to the name, yielding a conflict with the English band of the same name. Dominic Troiano, owner of the Canadian copyright, eventually relented.
If you can find the Bush CD, these live tracks - recorded in LA - are added as a bonus. ruclips.net/video/08PIUT2oDQ4/видео.html
SRV used a Leslie speaker on some of his tracks as well, most notably "Cold Shot." It's not the speaker itself that spins, though, it's a foam cylinder with various different sized/shaped cutouts that spins in front of the actual speaker. That's what gives organs their particular "wailing," almost siren-like sound.
I actually got to play through a Leslie cab once. We were hosting an afternoon jam at a local blues club, and the sound guy asked me if I wanted to try out that evening's main act's Leslie. If course I jumped at the chance, but because the speaker was hidden under the front of the stage, my drummer bitched and moaned about "not being able to hear me."🤣
I mean, he's sitting right next to my 50 watt, 4x10" tube combo, and he claims he can't hear me!🤣
"Long gone" reminds me of Frank Zappa music. Saw both groups in concert.
Very underrated band, should be in HOF! They are putting in too many non-rock artists these days. Country and Gospel have their own HOFs
Yes let alone the rappers. I want actual musicians unless it is comedy 95% of it sucks.

dominic troiano cant deny it he played a great guitar....he didnt write riffs like randy but he was no slouch
Domenic Triano was an awesome guitarist and I loved this version of the Guess Who... A Canadian rock'n roll treasure.
I actually saw Dominic with the James Gang in Omaha. He kicked ass bigtime...so much so, I wondered how Edgar Winter and his crew were going to being able to take the stage. But of course, Winter, Dan Hartman, and Ron Montrose took it to another level. Hell of a show.
Not their best lineup, they were the GW in name only by this time.
The original 4 were the best version!
You know Domenic Troiano ibecame familiar with only as a new guitarist for the James Gang replacing Joe Walsh...He in my estimation ,was not given his due back then and its a shame...hewas a very talented player .....The James Gang in their short time was privelaged to have 3 great players including Dom
Agree Dominic did fine with James gang
This performance of Long Gone inspired me to take up drumming.
When I got Dominic's album in 72 with the mugshot of him with this customized Tele, it intrigued the hell out of me. No question, he was doing some very cool stuff.
This was a highlight from the Flavours record and gave me hope for this version of the band. Burton spoke kindly of Dom's great playing, but had simply lost his passion for the Guess Who brand and the lure of a solo career. Then saw Dom and his bands on the club circuit around Toronto. He was an amazing player and a wonderful, humble gentleman!
In recent years, Burton has not spoken so fondly of this version of the Guess Who and the new sound. Personally, I liked some of it and saw the potential, but other aspects of the Dom era were just not compatible with the Guess Who sound.
Burton is wearing the same Suit and Shirt he wore on the cover of his 1st Solo Album.
troiano isn't even a winnipeger ffs.
Wow! That’s great.

Burton has often stated he hated the musical direction of this final phase of the classic Guess Who line up. Regardless, the late, great guitarist composer Dominic Troiano’s contribution to broadening the traditional blues pop rock of the band’s previous focus produced some great prog experimental takes. It’s easy to see how the well-earned egos were just too big for more than one star on stage at a time, so Burton blew it up and moved into a superb solo career. Domenic produced some incredible solo albums before he focused on tv and film soundtrack work. RIP
