Music was in Bach's blood. If I'm not mistaken he comes from a family of musicians, his father was a musician and his father's father was also a musician so Bach had music in his DNA or something like that. Here we stand. Almost 300 years afterhis death we are studying and listening to his work. That is amazing. Like Bach would say "to God all the Glory".

I wasn't a fan of Grumiaux back in the day, but this is excellent. Played with life and vigor. Yes, this is one of Bach's greatest works, the only partita or sonata with the form of 4 movements and a double for each one. The double is almost some kind of improvisation on the movement, definitely follows the harmonic structure, but do describe harmony with single notes and make is sound like real music is a gift only Bach seemed to have. Great violinists playing Bach is about the greatest thing on earth.

what an interesting and odd turn of events. a couple of days ago, I heard a violin piece somewhere and I didn't know what it was. I knew it was in B minor so I searched google for "famous violin compositions in B minor" and of course one of the results was this. after coming out of shock when I heard it for the first time -because it sounds so otherworldly and glorious, like the rest of Bach's work, and for some reason makes me cry when I listen to it- I realised it resembled the piece Sherlock was composing for The Woman. and I just read the comments for this video and found out that this tune was actually played in the show and I hadn't payed attention to it back then.
