Like the name says; incomplete collection. I've never heard the album you mentioned.

Hang Time. I first saw them at a place called the Brewery in Raleigh NC. A dive that held maybe 200 people. It was right after the release of Hang Time and the shows then were amazing.

Sounds great. I saw them live only once, in London just when the single Black Gold was released. It was so incredibly hot that most of the time i was more concerned about not passing out than actually following the gig. Even then it was a good gig (what i saw of it).

Good cat action in this video. I know the band's name but have never heard their music and don't even know what style it is. I'll put them on the list. Cheers, James

I would describe their early material up to Hang Time as American indie punk rock. After that they changed closer to grunge although maybe REM as influenced by Pixies type indie rock.
Runaway Train is propably their biggest hit, but not really representative of their style as it's almost acoustic. Try; Sometime To Return for their earlier style and Somebody To Shove for their later era.
My cats do make occasional cameo appearances in my videos.

I have never seen anyone do a ranking of Soul Asylum. I also bought that first album when it came out ,Hang Time and I enjoyed their next few albums which now were CDs. I just began to lose interest in them as time went on. I enjoyed your breakdown of these

I'm glad if i were the first to do Soul Asylum ranking. Like i've said before i hope to do ranking of bands/artists that doesn't necessarily have that many of them.
I don't really know why i stopped following them, maybe i just didn't hear about them anymore or there was so long time between their releases that i lost interest. It certainly wasn't because i would've been disappointed in their albums. Like i mentioned my last one Candy From a Stranger was great.

Well this didn't start out well for me. While You Were Out is the only one I have! lol I haven't listened to it for a long time and now I don't even want to listen to it (more lol). But I do want to stream Let Your Dim Light Shine. I'd also like to hear that cover of Ooh-La-La. I do have an ep called Clam Dip and Other Delights - that one has a great album jacket modeled after Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. Rock on Pasi!

I must admit that i had completely forgotten Clam Dip. I have seen it somewhere in the past. I did recognize the sleeve connection though at the time i had no idea how well known the original sleeve is in the US and how common the album is in the dollar bins. I haven't heard either of the records.
I like most of the covers Soul Asylum has done. They do retain the recognizable characters of the song, but change it enough to make it suitable for them. Ooh La La is worth having a listen.

I had no idea that they have released so many albums. The only album that I've heard from them is of course Grave Dancers Union. It has some songs that I've always liked. Back in 1992 I even bought Runaway Train CD-MAXI. Without A Trace and Somebody To Shove are my other favorites.
I even considered to buy their MTV UNPLUGGED LP but then I thought that it was a bit expensive compared to the songs that I know by them.

Back in -92 the information just wasn't readily available so it took me sometime before i found out about the previous two Horse and Hang Time. To found out about the others took me far longer. In fact when i first read about the debut album Say What You Will....Anything Can Happen, i thought they were two separate albums because of the way the title was listed.
Hard to say which one is my fave off Grave Dancers, but of course Somebody To Shove has a special place in my heart for introducing me to Soul Asylum.

"Candy" production ruins it to me. It sounds like an album from some adult contemporary act from the 90s, it doesn't fit the songs...

I don't feel it's production is much different to Grave Dancers Union, but if you do then that's fine. I don't have any notions when first hearing an album, i go by songs first not production, but i do admit i have albums where i've felt that the songs could be good if not for the production.
