I'm sure the owner wouldn't leave them alone together. Considering even owning a parrot like that takes a huge amount of resonsibility. Very cute. My cat and parrot play like that sometimes. Bird always wins.
it is just nice to see 2 animals of different species playing together...if they were actually fighting there would be more movement and more agression
Agreed. The macaw is playing a "macaw game". I call this game "beaky beak". I've been around a few large macaws, and "beaky beak" is a favorite game for them. The point is to grab the opponent's beak (or claw). If you do that, you "score". Notice that at the end the bird touches the dog's foot and then walks away. That's because he (the bird) "won".
W-O-W a Bluethroat. I'm jealous. Beautiful bird you have. Personally, I would never let them play together, not because I didn't trust the dog or the bird, but an accident could be fatal. But, not my choice and you seem more than competent to decide whats good for YOUR bird =)
That's so funny....we have a Shih-tzu that looks just like yours and our Sun Conure "Rufus" does the same exact thing to her!! I think our bird is jealous of her. LOL.
It's funny seeing them on the couch. The blue-throat will charge the shih-tzu like she's going to bite, and then will stop and gently barely touch the edge of the shih-tzu's coat. This is pretty common behavior with a blue throat and even blue and gold macaws. They threaten to bite, but don't want to and would rather flee than fight. It's also seen in playing behavior and you have to know the particular bird to tell the difference.
i think they are just playing, they have obsiously learned about each other, and each is quick enough to get back if they are truly being threatened by the other.
amazing how everyones on one side of the fence or the other. i have a macaw so i'll vote that the owner knows what he's doing. i know that i play pretty rough with my bird sometimes and if i hurt her by accident, she'll kick my ass!
She's never bitten hard enough to break the skin. She knows how hard to bite to hurt a little. I've never heard of a macaw taking a finger off - if the try to hurt you they would pinch you with the sharp end of the beak - which would make a puncture wound.
That was great! It is clear to me that they are both playing, I have a macaw too and it is plain to see that the bird is enjoying this, no fear whatsoever. Have a look at my videos too! ;0)
haha macaws are big and beautiful. it looks really long on the floor almostl ike a serpent. and u be careful cuz those beaks are pointy/sharp >_o mite poke his eyes out.....
I'd be scared letting my bird play with other pets..their bodies are not near as strong as a dog/cat cuz their bones are hollow. Cute video though..that bird was letting the dog know who's boss!.
This is the same shih-tzu that saved a baby mockingbird. Another of my videos. She's a sweetheart. She knows what the bird is supposed to do and not to do, and she acts like the bird police.
She's about 2 years old. She's very needy - kind of like a cockatoo - wants to be with me every minute of the day. She's a sweetheart. She loves most men, doesn't care for most women. She tolerates being handled by my wife, but I can do anything with her. She runs up to me and rolls over on her back for me to tickle her tummy. If she nips, it's just hard enough to let you know she want's something. She's never broken the skin.
@AsphaltAbuse mmm my friend thought she new her pets too, after 20 plus years of owning every parrot you can think of, (as she ownes a pet shop and hand rears from being 3 weeks old and having dogs around for as long as shes been alive) until one day she went in the shop to get whatever she was getting to come back to find bird feathers and no bird!!!!!! she used to let the bird out and it used to walk on the floor with the dogs and (ahem PLAY) funny how people know there pets well aint it duh
if the bird bites the dog, the dog will have an injury, but if the dog gets a hold of the bird in his mouth then its certain death for the bird... and supervising wont make a difference as such things happen in a split second and it'll be too late by the time the owner moves to do anything, so I DEFINATELY WOULD NOT LET THEM DO THAT IF I WAS THE OWNER. and it looks like the dog is playing around and being silly while the bird is simply defending himself...
bjjfighter35 (3 months ago) hahah b funny as hell if they dog ate the bird. I think it would be more the other way round lol. That beak is more than enough defense.
This isn't playing. The bird is trying to bite the dog. The dog thinks it's playing which isn't great either b/c it'll get bitten one of these when it isn't fast enough.
WOW, that is dangerous for your parrot! Is he still alive? P-L-E-A-S-E, don't let them conyinue with this form of "play". It could turn deadly....quickly....sadly..... I am not being obnoxious....I just care.
Holy crap why can't people relax, I think the owner has WAY better judgement than any of you about whether or not the playing is a good idea, stop patronizing!
I'm sure the owner wouldn't leave them alone together. Considering even owning a parrot like that takes a huge amount of resonsibility. Very cute. My cat and parrot play like that sometimes. Bird always wins.
HAHA
I love how the bird walks off at the end like "I have better things to do with my time..." hahaha!

Hahaha I love it how at the end your macaw just walks away. This is awesome. Can I steal your pets?
That's so funny....we have a Shih-tzu that looks just like yours and our Sun Conure "Rufus" does the same exact thing to her!! I think our bird is jealous of her. LOL.
omg macaws are huge! and this one seems to be pissed off at the dog :p
score 1- nil for the macaw's.. Now that's owning a dog for ya!

Awesome, how long do Macaws live?

@AsphaltAbuse supervised or not the time it takes for a bird or dog to bite one another nobody can get to them in time to prevent a serious bite
I agree. Way too dangerous. PLEASE, tomh2006, don't let this continue. I implore you......
that may be true about the dog saliva... but idk that beak looks like it could put a hurtin on that dog!! haha. THE BEAK!!

how can you tell if there fighting or playing???
Yes, I agree! The Shih-Tzu is in great danger!
This is the same Shih Tzu that saved a baby mockingbird. You should watch that video.

Canindes are endangered and CITES listed. Not so sure he should be playing with the dog. Your bird, your call.
