Is it really that tall
Eva units are inconsistent in the TV series. Anywhere between 40-90 meters tall. The rebirth version is about 80 meters tall though
The Kotobukiya Rebuild kits are 19cm and stated as 1/400 kit. The TV version however are non scaled.

PFFFFFT. I’m sorry but evangelion was just a copy of space runaway ideon -the stakes, story and cosmic horror elements and + religion. I made the mistake of watching ideon as a kid and I was scarred for life, but rewatching both as an adult I found ideon awesome and evangelion a cheap ripoff

It's amazing to see how Bandai took the human body as a template for this RG, just like the Eva in the anime. The way those joints move inside the arm to do the rotation isn't unlike how the bones move inside yours to do the same thing.
The articulation in the waist and upper legs also resemble the way our muscles move when we stretch our legs.
Jono SSD Amazingly, the kit doesn't explode despite complex joints.

In case anyone is wondering about measurements and scale scale: It's somewhere around 1 to 425
The EVA units are in real life 75 meters tall (around 17-18 cm or 7 inches for the model). In comparison, the RX-78-2 is 18 meters (around 12,5 cm).
The real life Unicorn statue is 19,7 meters tall.
You know those dinky knives the EVA units use? Yeah they're roughly the size of a Gundam (the shoulder boxes are where the knives go).
So in case anyone ever asks what would happen in a fight between EVA 01 and a Gundam? The answer is that the EVA "kicks baby Ike".
Even jet alone could just slap gundams and destroy them , no need of weapons

I know it's 2 years after this comment was written but hold up. It's not that simple.
Regarding the size "The individual Evangelion do not have a fixed height. Depending on the scene, they vary in size from around 40 meters to a towering 200 meters." And even if we do round it up to 80m there is no way that the knife is the size of a Gundam.
Also Gundams range in power drastically from series to series. The Freedom will tear the RX-78 apart in seconds if they ever go toe to toe.
Size alone is not everything. Even if that Eva unit is 80m tall Gundams have fought and dispatched bigger opponents. The Freedom was able to dispatch the GFAS-X1 Destroy (the Destroy is 56.30 meters tall with it's back gear) with a single stab in the cockpit. And the Gundam universe has units like MA-08 Big Zam that reach 60m (mobile armors). Also units like the Apsaras III exists. Some of these have STUPID levels of fire power.
The Gundams can fly and have a variety of weapons and these weapons can be very powerful. Some of them have specializations that should not be underestimated. Gundam Dynames was able to make precision shots from the ground on Earth into low orbit. So sniping the eye of an Eva from kilometers away is not really that hard to imagine. Also multiple Gundams working together managed to turn massive amounts of debris from an orbital elevator into dust (Gundam 00).
Units like the Destiny Gundam have massive swords that are designed to cut ships apart. Some of the weapons can probably vaporize the parts of the Eva units they come into contact with.
The Eva units have armor (that's not well documented at all) but they are organic inside and they tend to run out of power pretty quickly.
@@collectorking6204 size is still a pretty important factor too since Eva’s are also really powerful. I think evangelion borders on actual science and fiction. It’s why it’s considered japans greatest work of sci fi for some. As for power, an average eva is as big as the Statue of Liberty for scale which is pretty big. A gundam (as much as I love them) no matter how powerful couldn’t win. And Eva could easily squash it but it’s possible that gundam that are more powerful could severely damage it but it would still lose. The argument with power and precision shot could also work but Eva’s run on a separate energy supply and eva 02 is the only one capable of running without it for 1 minute so it wouldn’t be much of a problem. The problem with the a sniper could be an issue but it’s still gonna be hard to take them down. There is no definite winner if you weigh each of the pros and cons of each gundam and Eva but the gundam is gonna have a harder time than the Eva

The height is roughly what I said, I remember there’s an image somewhere with a drawing with measurements on it.
The knife total length are roughly a quarter of the height of the EVA units, so the blade alone would be around half the height of gran-pappy gundam. This is well within reason and not a ‘no-way’ scenario :)
Regarding scenarios of combat, Gundams, especially from Seed, are so ludicrously overpowered, you might as well bring up the twin buster rifle.
If you want a more reasonable comparison it’d be something like the 08th MS team, since they put a ton of work into realism, which is also a theme in Evangelion (while wing, seed and 00 are spectacle shonen shows).
The armor on the EVA units seems to be able to take a lot of force, but I have no idea how good it is practically.
Their massive advantage is their body. Any flesh at that size and weight that can sprint as fast as it does, is far beyond the materials and joints of any and all MS across any series I’m familiar with.
Not only is an EVA unit far more agile and faster in terms of limb movement, but many, many times stronger to an absurd degree.
Think of it this way, an MS strains its joints and dozens of electrical motors when doing something physical while an organic body distributes it across the limb far more evenly.
So, with the 70-80 meter height in mind, an EVA will literally punt an MS. Any hand to hand ends in an MS being caught before it can run/lift off and crushed or pulled apart like a toy.
Hell, all it needs to do is shake it violently and kill the pilot with sheer G force.
At range most MS beam weapons probably win and once it’s outside an EVA’s range there’s no competition.
I will say though that any MS getting hit with the EVA pallet rifle is done for, while the Eva is likely to tank probably most projectile weapons.
I think it’s pretty simple. I wouldn’t put much stock in the varying sizes, you can look at something like the EVA capsule and see that 40m is way below the scale.
Rather than Seed or 00, it’s far more reasonable to pick something like the original show (to some degree), Thunderbolt, WitP and 08th to compare with. A much more interesting comparison would be Pacific Rim.

In my opinion evangelion is nothing but a ripoff of space runaway ideon minus all the cosmic horror/ space opera elements that made ideon awesome. I watched it As a kid and I was scarred for life until I rewatched it a month ago and found it to be amazing, the perfect balance between terrifying and epic. I recommend it to anyone who enjoyed evangelion, but since rewatching ideon I find evangelion’s attempts at being dark laughable in comparison

I have a feeling the normal horn was included because it was designed without the other, but then Bandai decided to flex and include the color separated one but the normal one was already on the runners/they might have been already printed.

I've been holding off on the HG #04 version for years but now I'm definitely gonna pick up one of these with the DX set.

Lilith isn’t a chance in hell, but I think the lances would be cool to get. If I had to guess unit 6 (Kaworu) would have the spear of Cassius, and a unit 13 rg would have the Lance of Longinus, either that or an anime color unit 0 would have the Lance

Wita Haqq unit thirteen is the Eva that had the duel entry system. It was in 3.0 and Kaworu and shinji’s piloted it. Shinji operated the main systems, and Kaworu controlled the more advanced things

Thanks for the review. I finally managed to get one of these for a reasonable price. In regard to the weak joint in the upper arm, I noticed when going through the articulation, there's another swivel joint directly above the weak point. So, would you really lose much articulation if you were to glue that peg into the socket? (In the hopes that any builders even check 2 year old videos, much less MGK :) )

OK I know that I’m only a beginner in this model kit building thing but what I’ve learned from my first gunplay build which is just a High Grade Barbatos lupis What I’ve learned is that if you put a little tiny adhesive in it to sit for a while on the arm peg then he’ll have like this grippy type substance where if you put it inside the arm piece it will stay in so just a little advice from someone who has Only one Gunpla…😅
Having that light-emitting table adds even more flashiness to the AT Field as if it's glowing. Of course if you lay it flat in the ground. A good way to trade off the sparkles.
Also, who eats who first, Attack Titan or Evangelion?

Bandai already had me sold on the MG Barbatos expansion set, so if the Eva unit 01 expansion set is p-bandai, I'm better off just repainting the kit to look like the awakened form of unit 01

It only got the arm broken in episode 2, not torn off. It was episode 19 that it lost its arm. But this iteration is based on the 2.0/2.22 Rebuild design.

Was definitely expecting it to be more around the size of a standard RG. Wonder if it just would'a been more difficult to work in all the engineering necessary to give it a more organic look at a smaller size. Either way, I'm glad it turned out the way it did.

why is it that all eva model kits must have issues in their arms?
action figure makers doing waifu figures will be like: "how to get a beautiful natural elbow joint? well you split the arm right between the bicep and the forearm, we try to get a double joint with some extra elbow details in there if we can but usually a single joint is enough to get over 90° if you add some recess for the forearm to fold into, in general it doesn't matter if the joint is visible as long as it's properly integrated and the arm itself is nicely sculpted, it's even better if you have a long sleeve but a bare arm done like this is perfectly presentable as well."
meanwhile bandai when the giant robot has a hint of muscle in the arms: "give it a rubber suit! no, mold a plastic inner frame into a rubber arm like some sort of sexdoll! double bicep swivel! radius articulation! WE CAN BUILD HIM BETTER, WE HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY!!!"

Finally an Entry Plug! The Metal Build one had shitloads of accesories and yet they forgot the Entry Plug. Kudos to Bandai for this. Definitely getting this one.
All of the Eva kits prior always had an Entry Plug mechanism (I think the Kotobukiya ones do as well, but I don't have one to confirm), so that's extremely weird to hear they left that off the Metal Build.

I was so stuck on the joint for the legs at 22:53 and I could not figure out why the joint would not roll up to the point it was supposed to in the manual, but as I watched the video, the joint miraculously slid in and rolled up properly THANK GOODNESS 😂

This looks so insanely good! I am tempted to get it but I dont know a thing about gunpla, nor have I ever built any form of model kit, so I am hesitant. (Also it is probably mad expensive?)

This is what I don't like about molded buttcheeks in thighs. While it does make the figure look seamless, the sacrifice of swivel potential makes me kinda sad :(

Just started the Gunpla hobbie. Thanks for putting this on my radar. Ive been watching Evangelion alot lately
I actually just got done building this kit and I kinda solved or made the shoulder stickers look alot better I took something flat and hard kinda like a credit card or something make sure it's really on there and took something sharp like tweezers or even a hobby knife and go through the panel lines gently it actually makes the stickers look like a part of the shoulder armour
Just a thought, can it pull off the "Ironman landing pose"? I don't see anyone posing this (and any "Gundams") with that pose. I would expect "the Poser" could pull it off no problem at all. Need I mention that I liked that video of yours with the posing "competition". More power! Thanks for the videos!

I don't hate their reviews btw. It just feels lacking because they don't include photos of the kit in some action poses.
I also heard that the multilayered green part is not supposed to rotate.
And did Mechagaikotsu forget to show the moving chest armor gimmick or is it just me being sleepy while watching the video. Lol!
