- Flyin Brian's new Kawasaki KFX450! We took the KFX450 on it's first trail ride to see how it compares to our other machines like the Raptor 700, TRX450R, and YFZ450..
Brian sounds like me "I need a back up for my back up for my back up" now I have more quads than days of the week 😅
It makes sense if ya don't think about it too hard..
Never sell your sport quads man! Bad idea.

@@DirtObseXXion Wow I would looove to find a super clean LTR450 or TRX450 to go along w/my mint '10 YFZ450 & '21 Raptor 700R-SE.

Yes they do! #SaveSportQuads
We're working on it! Thanks!
Wow! That is a clean looking bike! Great find. My kx450 is fuel injected with a choke as well. Seems to work just fine. A buddy of mine raced a KFX in A class and that thing hauled!
You helped inspire the green addition, but with 4 wheels
Great bikes. Hard to find a clean used one. If you do they are pricey! Never sellin my Yamaha sport quads. Too much fun!
The green bean is a mean machine! Flyin Brian is single-handedly supporting the used ATV market one mint quad at a time!
was my first quad I ever owned, I still talk about it 15 years later. That bike was absolutely amazing. Just come across a 2010 in brand new conditions, less than 6 hours since new.
Did you pick it up?
You DID grab it I hope!????? Don't leave us hangin here. Lol
Have a '10 YFZ450 that has under 10hrs right now! Bought new as leftover in '11. I stored it 8yrs. Took it out of storage 6mos ago & put new ITP holeshots all around plus new fluids etc. Runs & looks like new.

@@DirtObseXXion My ATV rides are nearing an end soon. For many reasons i will be transitioning to SXS for all rides. I will always watch your videos and Team Wax...I love the content of guys like me enjoying their machines and the outdoors. Keep your videos real and upload frequently.
I wanted one of these so damn bad when I was a kid, and when they canned it, it broke my heart a little bit. Always loved the KFX 450. The removable fenders was always awesome too me.
They're pretty sweet, we gotta do an update video.. We got a nicer one with Teixeira upper arms, big 3 with a Rossier pipe, revalved suspension, ect... It's an awesome quad!
Another great vid brothers! Keep up the good work!
Thank you!
It started up so easily and quickly...mint quad right there
Fuel customs intake, power commander, 2 bros exhaust and a gear change makes a huge difference. Throw a set of cams in it with stock compression piston and it will fly! The first time I brought mine out somewhere I could max it out I was disappointed in the straights. But with a gearing swap and letting it breathe I went back with a vengeance. I miss it!
We've heard there's a lot in reserve in that engine
@@DirtObseXXion there’s plenty on tap for cheap. Mine was about as fast as my full blown race quad. I did have issues with foot peg bolts and skid plate bolts ripping out. I think I bored the holes bigger and ran bigger bolts with nuts on the backside... can’t remember exactly haha. I do remember the ride! I got a quad tech seat cover with the thick foam because sitting on a 2x10 for a seat gets old haha. I plan to pick up another one for trail rides. My Polaris is too big for the trails I ride.
What greasing did I swap to
you forgot to mention that the frame was designed off the trx250r roll design lobo 2 chassis . love the kawi beast of a 450 .
Excellent reveiw....very satisfying. You guys are really good at this. Can't wait for some comparison videos. 🤘

Hey love the chanel just bought a new 2021 Raptor had a 07 suzuki LTD 400 like you all say if we want Yamaha to keep building theses great quad's we have to give Yamaha a reason to keep building them as l watched this great video l can't help but wonder how far the solid axel quad market would have gone if the bottom of the market didn't fall out and all the manufacturers were still driving one another to be King of the hill just wanted to say thank you for keeping riders interested in these machines we all love happy trails
I really liked my Kfx450, was never beat by another 450. The seat was the only down flaw. Not the most comfortable seat that’s for sure. It is definitely my choice of the 450 class.
Seats are easy to swap out! They were sweet. Bought my '10 YFZ450X new & won't part w/it. Low hrs. *Runs like new & great stock suspension* . 2nd yr of fuel injected on Yamahas title winning YFZ450. Hauls ass. God bless!

Hey dudes! First of all I LOVE your videos and your perspective on these machines. The Kawasaki was the only quad that never really hit the Glamis dunes. I have A LOT of experience on all the others so I really enjoyed the information! 🍻
In stock trim I don't think it would be great on the dunes.. Super fun trail ripper tho

It's pretty sweet.. We just got done doing a build on one, it's awesome 👌 hoping to do a video on it soon
I’ll be looking forward to it. I’m just a little hesitant to buy a pure sport wheeler, in 2018 I wrecked my kodiak 700 and broke my greater tuberosity, tore my rotator cuff, crushed my shoulder labrum and ruptured a disc between my L5 and S1 so..I ride slow these days.

A lot of hate on the KFX450 but I’m a HUGE fan!!!!
Do you still have your Outlander 1000 or all sport quads?
@@ericgray8396 All sporties now but the Outty was awesome.
These were always my favorite. And the Suzuki, both the 400ltz and the 450. Even had the arctic cat and loved it. Jus beware of idiots shifting with their hole leg and bending shift forks on the 400s.
A Fuel Customs intake and the fuel controller are a huge help. The stock intake and the seat are the weakest links.
No doubt.. Wait until you see our Raptor builds.
Always enjoy these rad videos 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks brother!
the beginning reminds me of the old vids from the disks in the mags back in the day
I just picked one of these up Saturday! It's awesome!
Sweet!
@Dirt ObseXXion - Yea your review here is what helped me choose it! I wanted to keep the width reasonable for woods and trails so it was down to this or the Raptor 700. Coming from a Blaster 200....what a night and day difference jumping to the KFX450R Lol! 😆 It's so nice!
@@e5m956 KFXs are super underrated! It's perfect for trails, super agile and has reverse.. @@DirtObseXXion yessir. Enroute and almost to the track. Hopped up on Bang energy drinks and terrible 80's music
My kinda dude! Hopefully we'll see you there!
That seat is like a 2x4, no joke its one of the hardest seats I have ever sat on.
The TRX450Rs & YFZ450Rs were def faster stock I think. Possibly better suspension too. Definitely wider! That Kawasaki does sound good. *My '10 YFZ450X sounds good as well but also has less than 10hrs since new* . I need to ride more. 😕
I'd say you're right about the speed, and the yfz has better suspension for sure, not so sure about the trx.. What we really like about the KFX is how planted it feels for its narrower width.. You definitely lose some suspension because of it, but you gain handling and agility which can make you faster in tighter trails
The not so fast part is definitely true for the stock kfx, did some motor work on mine 490 big bore, 12.5.1 cp Carrillo high comp piston, kx intake cam, webb exhaust cam, ported head, dasa pipe, k&n intake, power commander fc, Hinson clutch, the only reason they’re not so fast stock is the stock intake.
For a 12yo it’s definitely a handful, gonna be hopefully doing the new Tranghese Design XC a arms.

Ha! Thanks!
You should make a video on which ATV is the best in the 1990s area
Good idea
I almost never see these kfx's while I'm out riding. I always see trx's, and yfz's.
They got a bad rap because they weren't great race machines compared to the trx and yfz.. But they make a good trail machine.. We see them around but definitely not as much as trx or yfz
Hey guys, I'm new to the world of 4 wheelers. Is there a difference between the kfx450 and a kfz450r? Just going to be trail riding. Thanks
Yes, as 450s go they're quite a bit different.. The YFZ is racier and higher strung which means it generally needs to be ridden harder to stay in the power and requires a little more maintenance.. The KFX is more trail friendly and has reverse.. The KFX has been off the market for 10 years so it's getting harder to find them.. There's more to it than that, but that's the jist..
@@DirtObseXXion I'm not after a yfz. I see some kfx's and some kfx-r for sale. Is there a difference in those?
@brandongraytheoutlawskies3971 OH my bad.. No, KFX450R is the actual name.. There's a KFX400 too but all 450's are 450r
Where u guys from? Looks like some nice riding places
I think for it to go faster you need an aftermarket pipe and an aftermarket intake. I have a fmf full pipe on mine and it keeps up with the raptor 700s. I haven’t really paid close attention to anything else on the bike but it’s fast. Other people that use the Kfx say that they’ve beaten Honda’s and Yamaha’s with it. Maybe all you need are the aftermarket parts for it to be fast. Aftermarket performance parts can be pricey tho.
I love my 09' kfx450r. It's not stock but a great bike! Top end speed is around 70mph. Looking to add a little more power pretty soon.
Awesome!
Sweet riding spot
Such a cool looking one
Thanks, he actually sold this one and got another that's in a little better shape.. The kfx is awesome
Kind of an odd question but some friends of mine have side by sides and do some hill climbs, cross streams and a few rocks. Could this keep up with them or is it mainly a track or more smooth trail ATV? Thanks and great vid.
That's a really good question.. Sport Quads are much more capable than they get credit for, but it definitely requires the rider developing the right skill set.. We ride through pretty tough terrain, it just takes a little more thought, line selection, and clutch/throttle control.. It can be more challenging but it's more rewarding in my opinion.. But.. When you're on a sport quad, no one will be having as much fun as you are once the trails do smooth out a bit.. Really rocky terrain, like crawling stuff, is the only downside of limited ground clearance.. In general you can skirt around obstacles and center ruts to make it where you need to..
Thanks for the response. Yeah I’ve owned a few dirt bikes and ATVs but it was. Grizzly 700 with mudlite tires and Big Gun exhaust. I LOVE being able to shift the gears myself. Automatics are ok but I’m like you it’s so much more rewarding when you pick the right line. The Can Am Renegade intrigued me but for years I’ve seen the KFX450r just be such a solid woods machine. Would you stick with holeshot tires or go with something a little more aggressive? For the middle spots.
@FRED TAYLOR The Renegade is cool but it's really just a typical 4x4 atv with better looking plastics and no racks.. On quads we really like CST Pulse tires.. They seem to have great bite, we've never punctured one, and they last a decent amount of time.. Ive tried a bunch of different tires and I plan on sticking with the Pulse from now on..
Thanks for the great feedback! One more question. Which ATV would you lean towards for someone with experience and rides woods not track? TRX450r, KFX450r, etc… thanks 🙏🏼
@@fredtaylor1205 Lot's of different opinions on that. I like the KFX450, Z400, and Raptor 700 for woods riding. A lot of guys like the TRX450 though. The YFZ or LTR can definitely be built for woods, but they're better on a track out of the box. Don't overlook the Raptor for woods riding. They're more readily available and the aftermarket support is much more vast. But if you find a good deal on a nice KFX450 or Z400, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend either of those.. The Z400 feels a lot more powerful than a 400EX. The suspension on the later models is better and it's super light and flickable... We really like that quad too..
You've had this quote for 2 years now..... Do you still have it?
Do you have to run it hard or does it like run at slow speeds putting in...
Getting my eight-year-old boy in the trails on a dirt bike I'm looking for a quad that I could tag along behind with.. Then take to the dunes and Ride hard when I'm alone...
We don't have this one anymore but we've had a few of them since.. These are easiest of the 450s to ride, because they will lug at slower speeds... It's a 450 that has the manners more like a 400.. So, for what you're describing.. I think either this or a z400 would be your best options
I bought a 2021 foreman back in Jan of this year. Turns out my wife loves riding it. So I went shopping for a kfx in my area. None to be found. All yfz450 and TRX450. A couple 400ex but they are running more expensive then the 450s. Got a call from a buddy saying his friend as a 05 450r. Went and looked at it and he is the original owener. It seems very tight and if you can beleive this no mods! frame is not even scraped up. I pick it up tomorrow with hopes to make it a trails machine. I do not ride fast. But the shape and price was to good to pass up. Great channel you guys been a sub for a long time! By the way any dirt obsession stickers on the way?
Awesome find!!! It's getting tough to find good sport quads on the used market that aren't priced higher than original MSRP!!! I hope you enjoy it!
@@DirtObseXXion did the Viking change the gearing on his 450 for riding in the woods in that race he did? Mine seems very fast on the top end I would like to have a little more trail grunt
@@DirtObseXXion my wife likes to Ride slow and you know the 450R is not real happy doing around 20 mph all the time. Would you recommend the 450 Kawasaki or the 400EX I'm in the market looking at both of them I don't want nothing really fast but something that does good on the trails and doesn't overheat under 30 mph any of your help is always appreciated
@@mzondi1970 It's for you right? She's still on the foreman? I'd say you could go either route. The KFX450 is much friendlier 450 motor than any other in it's class. The handling is much better than pretty much anything else we've ever ridden too. Unfortunately though, nothing will beat that 400ex reliability
@@DirtObseXXion sure would be for me. The hondawas just too peaky that is why I flipped it so quick it was a decent looking and very good running four wheeler.. I guess I'll just have to make up my mind I like them both the ex and the KFX

What used sport quad would you recommend for someone 6'4" and 240? Plenty of 2w Enduro and 4w utility quad experience but zero sport quad. Wanting to get some of that fun action y'all got on the cheap.

They're very different.. The LTR is higher strung, wider, a little harder to find and typically more expensive.. I love them tho! 06-07 are the best, they had clutch issues after that (which by now may be resolved by previous owners).. The KFX is easier to ride and has revers so it's a better trail quad in my opinion.. We've had several of each.. Both excellent quads!

KFX vs YFZ ?
Awsome quad but agree it’s the slowest 450 for sure but like you said great for trail riding

Ohh that's perfect
I’m 14 and need something with a lot of power, I like the specs of this quad but I’m thinking the raptor 700r might be better, what’s your thoughts and is there any other better suggestions that I should look at? Also it’s really rocky where I live but I want a sport quad
Also I do crazy hill climbs a lot so I need something that won’t stall on me when im doing them
Obviously you're looking used. I'd just try to find whatever is in the best shape for the best price. You don't need as much power as you think you do. A 400 like the Z400 for 400EX are plenty fast and are going to be A LOT less maintenance than any 450. The KFX450 probably requires the least maintenance at least as far as valve adjustments and things like that the 450 class competition. The Raptor is great tho, we have 3 now and we love them.. Is this your first quad?
My kfx was nice but just couldn’t cruise the tails like my old 400ex

@@DirtObseXXion thanks for that sir I’ve been debating which 450 to get for a long time and I’ve always loved these green beasts but I never did get one because all I cared was about which one had a higher “top speed” but thanks for the wake up call I am for sure ganna pull the trigger on one of these instead of a yfz or trx
@@lightyagami8639 Glad to help! A good rider on a 400x will be faster on trails than an ok rider on a badder machine.. There's just more important things to consider on a quad, like handling and suspension. Those things will make you faster where it matters.. If a quad can hit 70mph on a road, it's probably not geared right for going fast on a trail.. So I guess what I'm saying is, get on something you feel most comfortable on and hone your skills..
Reverse! Kawi was the only OEM that offered that most excellent feature on a 450. But dang it, just like with the Tecate 4, Kawasaki offers an amazing quad and then takes it away after only two year. Somewhere, someone in the world must be the original owner of both a Tecate 4 and a Kawi 450. I bet it is under a handful of guys in the USA. Like under 10.
KTM had reverse too
Kfx was in production from 2008-2014
@@DonHewlett3 I didn’t realize it had that long of a production run. Was that also for the USA?
