He was an avid mariner of both freshwater and ocean adventures for the rest of his life. I discovered your channel recently and I have to say, if my dad was still alive, he would be an avid listener. The ASVAB isn't mandatory, but many high school guidance departments pretend it is, presumably under pressure from the recruiters assigned to their schools. This is part of a larger pattern of predatory recruiting in high schools that has been going on for decades. (The First Gulf War happened during my senior year of high school, and I'll tell you what, those guys were _visibly desperate_ at my school that year--particularly the one from the Air Force, for some reason.)

I remember the drunken sailor music, from when I was in middle school, and we were forced to watch the voyage of the Mimi, and after the coursework, we visited a Maritime museum, for class, and the actual captain of the Mimi, talked to us and shared stories.
But what I remember was him playing the guitar, and asking all of us to come up with new verses to the tune, in similar sailer fashion, where everyone was part of a certain place in history...
It was memorable, and one of the reasons I'm here. So thanks for the background tune.

If you’re considering doing one that took place during this largely forgotten war, the Coventry would be a good choice, though I do believe the horror aspect would go to the Argentine ship: general belgrano. Think uss Indianapolis meets titanic, albeit with not as high a death toll you’d expect. Well, good luck.

Hi. Linguist here. You are being way too hard on yourself for your pronunciation. No one can expect you to be able to pronounce words form every other language out there, and those who complain about it could probably need a healthy dose of self reflection. Some languages have a lesser variety of sounds than others and thus speakers of those languages will have a greater difficulty pronouncing languages with greater variety. This is simply because a different set of muscles and positions are used to produce the sounds. If you're not a dancer, a short walkthrough wont help you nail a complicated dance. It takes practice. Speech is a dance of your mouth/tongue/throat and it needs practice to improve, like any other skill.
Now, rant over. Your content is great and it's amazing to find a channel like this with great quality videos and deep knowledge behind the scenes. Thank you for making these vids! Although I'd never get on a boat myself, I'm strangely fascinated by it.

Would you please do the USS Indianapolis? A lot of misinformation surrounding this ship and it's captain.

Speaking of tests and studying, I have a test today and I'm watching this instead of studying. Its got some WW1 stuff which I know well. Will go watch Oversimplified WW1 or something.

You should do the Battle of May Island, one of the most interesting Submarine training disaster in the history of the Royal Navy.

5:24 I can’t see anyone reacting that way to an educational video about it. Personally (though obviously I’m not actually one of them) I’d be glad to know more people knew about it and the names of those lost.
I mean that’s just me though

I'm also an Aussie and I there is far more important things in the world than pronunciation in a youtube video. But please know Melbourne is pronounced 'Mel-burn' not like Jason Bourne.

Great stuff. I have a question - will you cover SS Valencia and SS Baychimo? I think they are creepy enough to fit maritime horror theme.
