I was in the Army, in uniform, and had a meal at the airport on a layover. I asked for the bill when finished, my server told me my bill had been covered by a couple I spoke to earlier. I had more than enough cash in my pocket to cover it, and gave double to my server.

I have heard the stories, from my friends, about getting stiffed from rude people, and having to pool tips (which to me is unfair, but that is for another day). Having to smile when someone asks for a tip back, or worse, does not even leave one, takes a strong constitution. To see you bring joy into their lives, if only for a short time, is refreshing. Nice boss, that come out and said thank you for what you guys are doing. All the staff seems so humble. I work myself in the industri so i know tips are very sensetive topic and in my country the normal salary is big enough but for some people they are very greedy about it.

You should ask for restaurants to help you get the back of house out on the floor. They tell them an unhappy customer wants to see the chef, they coome out, you tip them. Lot's of places still do not tip pool for back of house, and they are making peanuts.
