Love the walkways! Makes me want to meander in a garden💗 I really appreciate what she said about how a garden comes together little by little and how you may have try things in different areas to find just the right spot. A garden is never really “done.” ❤
Very inspiring! I have 1/2 acre to develop. Right now it is a blank slate other than for weeds and a few things planted long ago. We had a forest fire 3 years ago and I've just moved into the new house.
Very beautiful space. For the lavender, try amending the soil with stuff like sand, lava rocks, pumice, etc. rather than compost. Lavender roots are sensitive and don't like being around rotting stuff like compost since the rotting process consumes oxygen, and if this occurs within soil (instead of on top of the soil as is the case in nature), especially in clay soil, the lavender roots which are adapted to 'airy' soils (sandy/rocky) tend to suffocate and become vulnerable to root rot.
You’ve done a wonderful job I just wanna make a comment that back when you had a chain-link fence you knew your neighbor and your neighbor saw what you were doing and was able to help but now that you have a privacy fence, your neighbor would not even know if you fell and hurt yourself in the backyard I think that’s a lot of the problem of society is we build too many fences I realize there’s people out there that get in other peoples business but just think about where she was and where she is now
Greetings from an english cottage gardener! I can't grow lavender either. It never looks healthy and abundant - more spindly with sparse growth on top. I keep trying though! I love your pond. I want one!
The problem I have is once I have all the beds set up and planted, I can't really afford to do all the watering they need. It's a real dilemma here in San Antonio. 😢
Yes, it's the same here, too. But many of the native plants only need water to establish. If you can get past that, and mulch a little, it's not so bad. I can't afford to water much either, but I've never lost anything to summer and drought. They don't look great, but they make it!
Have you checked out SAWS Garden Style San Antonio? They are plants for Central Texas that can get through drought once established. www.gardenstylesanantonio.com/plant-search/
Nancy you are a jewel. I can see why people want to help you. I love your yard. You’ve inspired me as I’m redesigning my own backyard.

She may be one of my favorites yet. Beautiful gardens. I am trying to remember to be patient as my gardens come together!

You've done a great job even with some help, it's a lot of work but well worth it.
