  • WEN model 70716 10" Saw. DO NOT BUY! See how bad it is near end of video. Awful junk. Cannot make an accurate cut. The clicks lock at wrong angles and arm has a lot of play. I wasted money on this because I though I needed a sliding miter. My cheap old Delta chop saw had positive click locks that were exact angles. Good brands are Makita, Bosch, Hitachi, Ridgid, Skil, Ryobi, Jet, Craftsman, Milwaukee and DeWalt.

    Get this and Learn how to adjust a saw. It’s a skill set that anyone should have. We have two of these in our shop and they’ve been solid for years.

    Great review. I was thinking about this saw but not anymore. Thanks for the heads up.

    I'm happy with mine. I guess this reviewer might be the type of person who buys a Chevy Cruze and is critical of it since it's not a BMW M3. For the money, the Wen is a good tool for limited, homeowner use.

      I find that with all the reviews of "cheaper" tools. Guys comparing these tools to Dewalt, Bosch, etc. If you buy a $200 saw, you get a $200 saw, especially when its expensive counters are around double and more the cost. Thanks for pointing out the obvious.

      If Chevy says we have all the features that BMW M3 has, and then those features dont work as expected, wont you be disappointed?. I think this guy is right in saying its not working as expected.
      Edit: Ok he is is complaining too much !

      Then that Chevy shouldn't advertise the impossible.

    I haven't used mine yet, but it was fairly straightforward to setup tonight. BTW, I really appreciate Kent's thoroughness, and I'm sorry he had a bad experience. So far, my experience with Wen has been very good (I love their hand planer and I just picked up their rotary tool). That being said - comparing Delta to Wen - I'm not surprised the Delta came out ahead. Thanks again, Kent, for the thorough review. BTW, did anyone figure out what the two black items with electrical contacts (I think) are? These were in the bag with the hex screw - they are about an inch long and have a gold wire connected to a slide electrical contact on each. Thanks for any insight!

    AAA+ WOW, I was almost going to purchase this model until you pointed out the cheap sticker for the angles.....That is a deal breaker.

    I bought this on Facebook Marketplace for 50$ with a new B&D workmate as a backup a couple years ago. Some criminal walked off with my DeWalt at the job the other day. I had to use this POS for a couple specialty cuts. What a horrible saw. Spent 4/5ths of the time making adjustments. It did make the cuts, Good grief.

    Most of the time you’ll have to tune these miter saws. You gotta tune it.

    Amazing review. I was considering the wen. After seeing how many adjustments might be needed, I'd rather spend a few dollars more for something less powerful but more accurate.

    It's a $132.50 Sliding compound miter saw. Not a $1700 Festool. All of my WEN tools are fairly decent, even the 70716 I have.

  • @squarelevelplumb
    @squarelevelplumb 4 года назад +1

    I understand the sticker being off, but all of the things this guy is complaining about are things that should be adjusted or set up before using the tool. He seems to be relying on the pointers. Square the fence to the blade, square the bevel using a guage then adjust the pointers Not vice versa.

    Thank you, Kent. I was just about to buy one of these things, thinking "just how bad could it be?" I'm really glad you took this time and effort to show me that it really could be that bad. Credit yourself for one service star on my account. Thanks again.

    It will work fine for framing or building a deck. Not for making picture frames and such.

    New WEM 10" MM1011 sliding miter saw more compact and needs no clearance in the back

    • @KentDiego
      @KentDiego  4 года назад

      The reduced clearance is great. Unfortunately they still have paper stickers for angle setting. A miter saw is too important a tool to skimp on.

      @@KentDiego they have on cutting platform metal marks for the angle but motor mount angle is sticker with marks

  • @electric7487
    @electric7487 9 лет назад

    Maybe you just got a bad one. One crew in our area uses this saw with the Tenryu fiber cement diamond blades and it works great. But you ARE right in the sense that if the locking at wrong angles is a common problem, then this isn't worth the money.

    Cracks me up when he says he bolted it down. Yet after his first cut the saw bounces. Guess he used double sided tape

      I bolted it to the counter top but the counter top has some play. Going to have to attach the counter top better. Some day.....

    • @KentDiego

      Trace the AC power at the switch and ensure power to motor. If motor has power then it is fried.

    • @KentDiego
      @KentDiego  8 лет назад +6

      I want to set it to the 45 degrees notch and get a 45 degree cut. Since it cannot do that it is useless. I will accept low quality as long as it still does the job.

    I was planning on getting one of these mainly for cutting long wide (8ft long, 11-1/4 wide) boards. It says it will cut 11.5 inch wide boards. Is this true?

    I have this same saw and have been disapointed every since.I only got it because it was a sliding saw.Im going back to my craftmen and just flip boards that are too wide until i can get a name brand sliding saw.

      people just like to talkk shit . forexample i have a green evolve craftsman table saw and it does the job . the guide rail is not good at all miter gauge wabbles and is no good but if ur willing to adjust and take ur time it does the job well . mabe the proces vs a high cost one its not as smooth but if ur on a budget . it will most deffenetly get evry job u can imagine done i rate it 7/10 mabe even an 8 in general and most people would rat it a 5 .or 6

  • @5ChG
    @5ChG 5 лет назад +1

    what? you don't rely on angle gage not even $500 miter saw. that's basic! you always check the angle yourself. Just buy $500 one if you want to complain about $150 one. it is that simple.

  • @t.c.2776
    @t.c.2776 2 года назад

    well it seems obvious there is multiple adjustable measures you need to take to get an accurate angle cut... and first: you don't have to sell it and take a loss you just return it for a refund since it's brand new... your whining didn't help your situation... so those marker tapes could have been off, so it's possible you could have set the blade to zero and repositioned the pointer, which had a lot of leeway to move left/right and twist slightly for refined measurement... you could have repositioned the tape also... but I would have returned it.
