  • An old favorite here, The Kesh (or Kincora) Jig, key of G. Greatly popularized in the US by the immortal Boys of the Lough.
And, for the first time on video - surveillance tapes possibly excepted - The Old Grey Cats: me, Alan Davis, fiddle/mandolin, and Roy Durnal, bass/bodhran (drum). Video kindly made by Gregg Schneeman, of bowed psaltery fame. • "KING OF THE FAIRIES" ...
Dulcimer is tuned, from treble to bass: usual D - G - D + an added, lower G. It's a hybrid tuning between standard and baritone dulcimers and has great bass sound. (Strings, same order: 0.011, 0.017, 0.028, 0.036)
We were in Claremont's Memorial Park, Friday 10/9/20. Claremont has a mask wearing ordinance, so the other Cats are being more law abiding than me. I wore mine the rest of the time, honest. Yes, my hair is 'Covid Style.'

Knew a guy who hated this tune but as I’ve played it for decades on whistle, I’ve never understood his dislike. Love the dulcimer!

It's the first tune they teach almost everywhere. I think a lot of people just get sick of it.

First time I heard this tune was by the Bothy Band. This is the first time I've heard it played on a mountain dulcimer. Very nice.

Yes, but absolutely anything on a mountain dulcimer sounds better.., sorry, it's that simple.

Lovely to hear you again! (The last time was in Pineville KY, where you sang "Bold Orion" at the Great American Dulcimer Convention." Sadly, that event is gone after 40+ years.

I agree, it IS good to hear you all play again! I used to own the PIGTOWN FLING 1979 vinyl album (Green Linnet Records). I played it over and over again. Alas, my record player broke down from age, and today you cannot find good quality record players anymore that don't cost a bundle! Then they sound awful! Don't get me started on CD's. PLEASE DOWNLOAD YOUR ALBUMS ON YOUR CHANNEL!! I would love to be able to listen to them again! Other artists do this, can't you also? If you cannot do that, PLEASE record some more sessions as you have done here. It truly brings back good memories.

Hi and thanks for your interest!! I'm working on that, figuring out how to do it. You're right, it can't be too difficult if many others do it (often for albums they simply like, not their own).
I want to combine the tracks with slide shows of pictures of interesting dulcimers I took back in the 80s - versus just a static picture of the album cover. So I'm figuring out how to do that. I find that almost nothing new on computer comes naturally to me, but it do-able in the end...

awesome. Damn, I thought you were from Jacksonville Fl, I'm a beginner violin player and I'm looking for a teacher that will teach violin for fun. I want to play jigs and reels, I just love this genre of music

I usually play this on the Uilleann pipes at a faster pace, but I really like this more leisurely pace . . .
