    Excellent Jonathan. I had both, had both, of these issues. Your instruction is pitched at a perfect level for most golfers to comprehend. Having had these problems for many years after many lessons from different pros. I have arrived at the same conclusions finally, with the help of an ex European player Steve Harrison. One thing if I may add to your excellent tutorial. Both of my issues arose through a lack of torso flexibility making it easier and lazier to continue with the same bad patterns. Working on good spine angles and stretching redundant muscles helped me enormously. Great stuff keep it up and success to you Jonathan!

    The eureka moment for me was discovering long thumb vs short thumb. A long thumb is so much easier to fully set the wrists at the top of the swing.

    Very helpful, but I would add a third cause: not rotating the chest enough. The chest should rotate with the clubhead as long as possible. Stopping the upper body rotation too soon will give the club a certain momentum to roll flat. Keep the chest moving with the clubhead as long as humanly possible, while aiming the club face 45 degrees down as long as possible. The correct hinge will happen on its own when the right elbow folds.

    I AM HAPPY I FOUND YOUR CHANNEL- THE BEST MOST PRACTICAL INSTRUCTION I HAVE SEEN. TWO QUESTIONS-ARE YOU PROMOTING A REVERSE COUNTER CLOCKWISE FOREARM ROTATION TO KEEP THE CLUB FROM GOING INSIDE. SECOND, WHEN DOES EXTENSION IN THE BACKSWING BECOME A PROBLEM WITH A REVERSE PIVOT? THANKS.

    • @JKMGolf
      @JKMGolf  4 года назад

      Thanks so much! I am glad I could help.
      Most people who tend to get the club head behind them too early get their forearms rotating to where the lead forearm is level or above the trail forearm, so to help get in a better position you would most likely need to rotate them to where the trail forearm stays more above the lead forearm.
      You can definitely over-extend your upper body in the back swing. The key is to do it enough to where you are centered over the ball. You can check out my videos "HOW TO TURN AROUND YOUR CENTER" or "3 THINGS THAT CONTROL LOW POINT (Stack & Tilt)" that is already on my channel. I talk about this topic.
      Hope this helps!

    Hi Jo,
    I Follow you from Germany since Last week. Especially this Video was very helpful for me and opend my eyes for the backswing. Yesterday I tried to tilt as you showed in the wall exercise. This worked very well for my irons. Am I Right That for the fairway Wood the Tilt Must be more shallowed?
    Thanks for Your work and stay well!

    • @JKMGolf
      @JKMGolf  3 года назад

      The tilt with the woods or longer club may be more shallow but only because you tend to stand slight further away from the ball at address and starting posture may be different but you still want to tilt with all clubs in the bag

    You'd have a great time trying to fix my takeaway. I take it 3/4 back too vertical and then lay it off at the top, I guess a bad habit I have developed trying to counteract the steep plane coming away from the ball. The the downswing is a slow even out of the laid off top of backswing. I hate watching it on video, it has been doing my head in for years :(

      just subscribed!

    • @JKMGolf
      @JKMGolf  4 года назад +1

      Your downswing will definitely be affected by the way you take the club back and your positioning at the top of the swing.
      I think the difficulty is having someone feel the change in position enough. When I get someone in the correct position they usually tell me that it feels extremely odd at first so its important that we go step by step starting from the takeaway, to the back swing and then the downswing. Its a lot of little things done incorrect..

  • @5offthetee951
    @5offthetee951 21 день назад

    The easiest way to deliver the club on plane and stay shallow for me is to keep it laid off at the top. If i get my driver parallel to the target at the top i come down steep. The kick out shallowing move at the top is extremely hard for most golfers. Trying a Matt Wolff shallowing move would be impossible for almost anyone.

    Jonathan, in this video 8.16 minutes section, what do you mean that * The shaft of the club points close to the line of your heels*, can you share a diagram with arrows for this illustration?

  • @phillipkleinman8726
    @phillipkleinman8726 3 года назад

    So if I keep my hands close to my body on the backswing making sure to not rotate the club head behind my right leg to quickly, what is the process to actually raise the club to shoulder height? Using your drill when I raise the club upwards the club face points down towards the ground and then across the line badly. At what point do I rotate the club face?

  • @maziyi

    I roll my hands in and try to stop. Feels ok to p2 but from p2- p3 struggle with roll. How do wrists work from there with no roll? New video idea 😅

    • @JKMGolf
      @JKMGolf  4 года назад +4

      The drill I demonstrated was to prevent the club from getting too flat too early in the back swing. If you continue your swing with the trail forearm more ontop then it should force you to set the club more vertically. Perhaps I can make a video about this specifically!

    This is most likely my most serious problem, I am hitting inside of the tee off the tee box JKM meaning it comes off the toe. Will this work out the kinks in my swing? Sounds like I am swinging too far inside, is this the case? Am struggling with my swing badly...

  • @thomasfraser9072
    @thomasfraser9072 3 года назад

    Your instructions are good; but requires a lot of thoughts behind it. However too vertical move are golfers turning their knuckles counterclockwise at the transitional point of their downswing. Very bad indeed. All great right handed player quickly turns their knuckles of their hands clockwise at the top of their swing whether they are aware of this or not. Cheers

    • @5offthetee951
      @5offthetee951 21 день назад

      This move is extremely hard and even harder when u swing with speed. But agreed alot of great players are able to do it.

  • @MarkSmithhhh

    I dont know, I'm super laid off and I play way better from there...HOWEVER...im a former college wrestler and was a gymnast for most of my life so I can rotate really hard...but if you CAN rotate hard, it definitely takes a lot of thinking out of it and it's just turn turn
    My biggest issue is coming in to shallow and hitting tops or fats with divots point excessively right...would a steeper backswing help that

    • @JKMGolf
      @JKMGolf  2 года назад +1

      There are definitely players that can play great golf from a laid off position at the top. It all depends on the pattern of your downswing and how you are able to get the club in efficient positions. This video gives certain players information on how to get out of a laid of position if it does not match up with their downswing pattern.

    golf instruction is a ridiculous industry... its all bogus. I have researched all the great players of all time... They all had quirky swings.
    #1 Dustin Johnson - bows his wrist. every golf teacher in the world would tell you not to do that and yet DJ is number on in the world and would devour every golf instructor on the course.
    I am beginning to believe that in order to achieve a great swing, you have to find your own that works for how your mind and body are connected.
    I mean look at Matt Wolf. All the greats have unique swings. All the mediocre players on tour are the ones that probably have the "traditional" perfect mechancial swing.
    Find your swing and then practice practice practice your short game.
