Star Trek is a valuable asset and Paramount in need of cash might sign a contract with such ideas that can put some money in the bank. But the only thing i'm worried about is companies coming with stupid ideas for Star Trek. On the other side it might fall in to hands of companies with fresh ideas for the franchise. So a two way street i would say. Forget Lower decks and any other animated shows of Star Trek

A five year “lease” doesn’t seem very long. In the old days, five years was five seasons of 22-24 episodes. Now, it seems to take these studios a minimum of two years just to get a new season of eight to ten episodes which is kind of embarrassing.

If it gets JJ and Kurtzman claws of Trek by splitting it off its a good Idea they would have to pay out Kurtzman out and the cash injection selling it off would help them achieve this.
If it goes to Sony and they get Disney's help to finance Trek like they did with Dr Who Treks screwed. And it looks like Skydance is happy to keep working with JJ so Treks screwed there as well.

Whatever is done I believe like separating Star Trek into its own entity and whether it is leased or rented to separate it from Kurtzman I would be in favor of because his vision for this "Beautiful and Historic" franchise is skewed at best. Whether some type of transaction can be made to make him happy like giving him a movie rights or a money transaction then just do it already but protecting Star Trek as its own entity I feel is a good thing for Paramount. Money and good business during these economic times is important and that is the bottom line!

Secret Hideout will always be a problem.
Can’t they just let their contract run out and then just dismiss it as a joke.
Fortunately fixing Star Trek is dead easy way to fix it thanks to 1 scene in Picard series 1. With this 1 special effect would make Picard and Prodigy part of Discovery universe not the Prime universe and it would be same with Lower Decks be crossover with SNW not TOS.

Kuntzman and company have done such a number on the Star Trek franchise that I don't know that it can any longer be called an asset. The ratings for their shows don't exactly scream out runaway success, with fans gagging for more. I grew up with Kirk and crew, so I am in the purist camp. So I very much appreciate Berman's efforts to adhere to Roddenderry's vision while making shows for the modern day.
Kuntzman and company have done nothing more than make rubbish SciFi shows using Star Trek iconography to justify putting a Star Trek badge on their abominations. Adopting the approach of call it Star Trek and they will come. Thereby proving absolutely no understanding of what the franchise is all about, or why it had been so successful pre 2009.
For Star Trek to live again Kuntzman and Co need to be 100% expunged from any involvement in any future projects. The franchise needs to be rested, allowing a new owner to disassociate their output from post 2009 trash. It will also allow them time to really look at, and understand what they have purchased. Then, having gained an understanding of what made Star Trek so successful, gather together a similarly enlightened and talented staff. Plan how each season is to pan out, then have fun writing the scripts.
Avoiding the use of established, pre 2009, characters as regulars would allow future projects to establish their own individuality, and to live or die on their own merits. If the look of the show respects Berman era shows, and canon is similarly respected, then some new Star Trek could work for me.
Whoever buys this IP needs to want to do more than just churn out yet another Sci-fi show. We are currently experiencing that approach, and it isn't working. I am a fan of many Sci-fi and fantasy shows. The reason Star Trek became my all time favourite IP is because it isn't just another SciFi show. It stands out from the crowd.

Disney? Well, if they lease it out, they tie it to their approval what the lease does on each property (approval on story line and scripts), first refusal on each production, have it tied to using paramount production and administration services wherever possible (the one leased to, has to pay somebody for outside services, it might as well go to keeping paramount afloat) including studio space, they tie it to receiving 10% of the profits of each production on top of the money from the lease (so a big success brings some income. They could tie the leases to the ones leased to, having to upgrade and maintain studio space in a specific agreed manner, progressively starting immediately. It becomes a mutually beneficial deal, but thinner one for those getting the lease. They could lease excess space through the major space holding company on the basis they maintain and upgrade space, and receive it back in mint condition, then lease it out as part of a Paramount Services company, to productions paid up front. Going in to minor competition with the former company that leased them. Paramount maintains ability to do its own productions when they wish, and becomes a profitable services company to those wanting to take on the risk of production.
If we have a star trek studios, we don't want a Star wars experience with too many productions. Two TV series at once with movie streams for each series, even if some animated etc, to finish up story lines. Sometimes three if overlapped with ending a previous series. Up to three, or more if popular, movies each (say how 1st and next gen went for more, but Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Enterprise, could have done with some movies, with sets and actors already on hand. Cisco's story had only just started, and that could have been tied to action movies. Totally wasted opportunity for profit, as a Ferengi might say).

Well jay as American hears my thoughts especially if Sundance etc buy redstone out.
Sundance hopefully saying correctly but bread and butter is really good movies.
Here is a thought frist off if Sundance massive cash etc for paramount two one Sundance great fit for paramount's portfolios of movies don't think anyone even disney great job even star wars merchandise etc as they could have done think films and parks Disney's bit and merchandise sort after thought. Saying paramount as bad if worse on that merchandise front for star trek.
So here my thoughts about paramount good studio long term and hugely great if they get paid California studios need updating possibly get off their books California crazy expensive land etc etc right now Amazon studio creaters and purchase property technically not directly amazon company right allow amazon escape ftc etc they dump money Hackman group and right now hackman can't keep up demands mgm studios back catalog ip amazon desperately wants reboot etc with amazon mgm studios trademarks on them many mgm studios back catalog desperately needing modern remakes and reboots but like stargate problem MGM studios old always desperately short funds choose between updating studios or take gamble on stargate etc but right now problem all cash not studio space right now technically Hackman group independent etc amazon amazon MGM studios desperately short space getting crap spaces of paramount studio spaces basically gutting many places many folks terribly expensive etc right right now amazon MGM studios desperately need quick and dirty studio space so no one even consider this for Amazon/ hackman group wet dream get studio space let amazon MGM studios back catalog loose wanted frist desperately brand new spaces state of the art etc just fast amazon E-Commerce get x items dekivered and Amazon already means upload studios filming products directly from cameras to aws truck runs right built local compute for studio space and until data links setup etc dump raw camera footages into aws and Amazon ngm studios own seperate part of aws doesn't anything but Amazon MGM studios upload and cgi on aws servers filming, sound, everything physical media shot uploaded aws amazon MGM studios cloud etc setup putting together right so beautiful part of Amazon mgm studios push from creation side prime video and mgm+ servers speed of light may not released right away but production house over time get trucks just hard fiber etc to aws then aws mgm+ and or prime video at same times maybe do reacher new seasons while mgm+ exclusive 6 months or so reacher etc but done say states think syndication when ready syndication drop mgm+ on top prime video world wide specific versions for individual countries along with the native language translations of the audio.
Frist massive amounts cash into brand new paramount and Sundance company allow movie production budgets right. Then new p& s company dump primary servers etc on aws like version Netflix's does now aws hosting nothing say all or most paramount back catalog server cost etc solves two problems paramount+ service servers and app issues plenty bandwidth @ aws especially setup just for paramount ip especially ancient back catalog but means paramount most tv back catalog on technically aws servers but what paramount Sundance care giant money pit broke even actually made bit money and second Sundance unload massive amounts server cost and infrastructure cost off paramount debt books. Maybe joint deal were if paramount doesn't value in x tv shows but Amazon massive amounts merchandise etc profits then paramount and Amazon and Sundance decided is core to movies stays orginal in house paramount production movies but sweetheart deal with Amazon prime video or mgm+ carry x shows amazon thinking old shows but merchandise now beautiful part for paramount and Sundance they unload actual warehouse cost etc on Amazon win win paramount and Sundance wins
