The only thing I don't really like about Strange New Worlds is that I find the crew behaving to casually like they're hanging out and not actually on a ship working.
I think Skydance has the right idea with the simplifying and getting back to original series canon. They’ve been overthinking Star Trek with the alternate timelines and have lost some of the magic of the show with the darker storylines, character conflicts, etc. SNW is in the right track though IMO.
Let me be absolutely, crystal clear. If Skydance includes Abrams or Kurtzman's idead, or hires them, or uses any of the New Trek specific IP or themes that came from them in the past or come from them at any time in the future, even the slightest way, I'm not only not interested, I'm disinterested. If they even dip their toe in those waters, I will NEVER be in their audience no matter how much they may later attempt to seek amends. Apologies will not be accepted.
I'm in the same boat. Either it's a fresh start with all new leadership, a new more qualified writing room, and new producers. Or I'm not interested. I have no intention of watching legacy, Academy, or the section 31 movie.
I hated every episode of Strange New Worlds. Pike is always cooking for the crew in his quarters. Spock is always crying. I can hardly understand what Doctor M'Benga is saying. Generally the whole crew talks about their feeling instead of what the mission is. The writing sucks and should be cancelled.
Word! If Star Trek is to have any chance of redemption and recovery, it must become and do the exact opposite of what Abrams and Kurtzman did in every aspect. There needs to be a hard cut and especially Kurtzman and Secret Hideout must be completely and utterly banished. In fact, Sundance needs to enact a restraining order against Kurtzman and his ilk, so they can't come within a mile to anything Trek. No half measures!
Strange New Worlds getting a 4th season is no surprise to me. Its second season along with Picard season 3 topped the streaming charts so its make sense they are going with the numbers. I think that a Picard or legacy movie will be one of the next surprises Kurtzman will announce possibly after discovery finishes its run.
since the voice actors look like their characters, they could convert lower decks into a life-series. it's practically like with TAS. they animated it to lower costs, going this route backwards is certainly possible.
@@axelhopfinger533 so should every series be cancelled that someone does not like? might be a funny situation. or is there a single series that is liked by everyone?
I would love An Origin story with Captain April the first captain of the Enterprise using the guy who's playing Captain Robert April in strange new worlds.
I love both, to be honest. I hope that Skydance may continue "SNW," IMHO, but under the stewardship of someone who understands "Star Trek" from the get-go.
Haha, no. Absolutely not! The SNW cast is utterly cringe and annoying. The only remotely interesting character was Hemmer and they killed him off immediately. Even Pike is a weak and bland captain without any distinct or exceptional qualities. A true nu-male in space. So devoid of any toxic masculinity, he might as well be a woman. Hell, even Janeway was more boss than him!
Not only would I like to see SNW continue, I'd love it if they followed the show up with ST:TOS season 4! Think about it--they only need to cast McCoy, Sulu, and Checkov and they can continue the original series.
@@mem1701movies I myself wish "The Motion Picture" refit Enterprise would've been a great reference model for Titan-A. Yet, I wish Enterprise-G would've been either Titan's sister Connie III-class starship or at least a Ross-class one or the second Federation starship in the Syracuse class behind Syracuse NCC-17744-A.
And set in the past inside the Kurtman/Moonves STD Picard timeline and style, where phasers aren't phasers and women likely aren't women and changelings aren't changelings and the federation isn't a utopia etc? OR do you want a Star Trek like all of that was a bad dream, in the original continuity?
Agreed! And a new Federation starship as well. I hope the next "Star Trek" series--whether or not it would be the next CBS Studios production for NBC--would be the first to be under the stewardship of anyone who understands "Star Trek."
You've done a much better job with the musical than I did. I still can't get past about 20 minutes of it. And I still want that 20 minutes of my life back. Sadly, most times, when a show does a musical, it's typically their Jump the Shark episode.
Thanks for the news. Sad to hear about Lower Decks. Glad SNW is getting season 3 and season 4, but I do agree that it does need to go sooner rather than later purely for the sake of canon prsservation. That being said, I would like it very much if they found a way for Captain Pike to avoid the grim fate he gets courtesy of "The Menagerie." Also, I quite liked the musical episode and I have been watching Star Trek Since it first aired in the late 60's (Yes, I'm that old.) I must admit I preferred Lost in Space at first, but by 1970-1971 and it was being rerun, I was a total Trekkie. Really sad about the Lower Decks cancellation. I discovered it only two years ago as I was resistant at first, but after word of mouth FINALLY seeped. in, this old Trekkie was in love. Hopefully it comes back at some point. I do hope we get more Prodigy after Season 2 airs on Netflix, but suspect hope of that have now likely been dashed due to the imminent SkyDance acquisition. That being said, I REALLY want Legacy and Captain Seven in charge of the USS Titan (Sorry, Enterprise.) As much as I loved Picard Season 3, and loathed Season 1 and 2, I thought the decision to rename the Defiant was the wrong one. I grew to love that ship and her crew, particularly Captain Shaw... mirror universe Shaw anyone?
The sad part of all of this is with current technology you could do a new series with the original cast, voices and all and their families, those who are dead, would love to get royalties off it and while they would be "fake" fans would rather see that than people who look nothing like them pretending to be them.
I fully expect a new classic Star Trek series (or movie) with the "original" cast sometime in the future as CGI and AI merge. Yes, you're right, the families of the original cast will also be fine with it. That said, this still may be a decade off.
@@MikeD_ I don't think it's a decade. The voice technology is here. AI is far more advanced than we know. Even if you did an animated still picture with talking mouths, it would still be better and cheaper than the crap they dump on us now.
I liked Lower Decks but I wouldn’t miss it. SNW however I think I would miss. I do think Snw should blend in to the original series and reboot the original series with the new actors from Snw. There’s been too many time altering events to believe that the original timeline would be intact. So just embrace it.
A lot of Star Trek purists would disagree with you. to have SNW blend into TOS would mean that Discovery would also be canon & that is something that those purists don't like the idea of.
With Strange New Worlds getting a 4th season, by the looks of it Kurtzman's job is fine. As for Lower Decks finishing after the 5th season :( perhaps the characters can get some live-action love later down the line, it better go out with a bang, but not literally. Skydance are looking to expand with probably more streaming shows and of course with cinema releases.
I am sorry to see Lower Decks ending. I really enjoyed LD and wish that it would continue.' Maybe they will produce a streaming movie or 2 continuing the story. Regarding Prodigy I am hoping for a third season since it is a continuation of Voyager. I have not heard any announcement about the second season and when it will stream on Netflix. I wonder if Netflix will truly promote this show and how season 1 has done. I re watched season 1 & I found it enjoyable & engrossing. I am not surprised about SNW because it is now the flagship of Star Trek. It would have been foolish for them to cancel it. I think that going forward besides streaming movies for now on any ST series will go for 5 seasons. There will be no more 7 seasons 22 episodes. I would not be surprised if ST 4 Kelvin Universe doesn't jell. I think that the Kelvin ST is over. It has been a long time since the last movie. Probably the only people who will go to see it would be ST fans. I do not think that Paramount would not recoup the money to produce it.
I’m pitching a live action series Star Trek:Oxnard. Set ten years after Lower Decks, following the adventures of Captain Boimler and his Number One Becket Mariner on the California Class USS Oxnard. It would be a comedy, but more grounded. Perhaps with Chief Engineer Rutherford and Chief Medical Officer Tendi. It could be launched with a crossover episode with Legacy.
Are they going to relaunch Lower Decks as a new show? I have a suspicion it's only getting "canceled" 'cause the characters all get promoted or something.
Lower Decks would be missed but I could live with out it. Prodigy can go. Star Trek Academy is not needed and I am counting the days when the last STD episode has come and finally gone. Star Trek Section 31 would be a good trilogy in theaters. Star Trek Strange New Worlds is something that needs to continue. Would really like to see Star Trek Legacy be the other Star Trek timeline you mentioned they were talking about possibly having. Kelvin Star Trek 4; really don't see that happening with Chris Pine and the others, but the origins of ncc 1701 Enterprise "No bloody A, B, C, or D." would be something to see.
As someone who doesn't usually like musicals I didn't mind it, maybe even enjoyed it. What annoyed me is that it took a slot a normal episode could have taken, and that pissed me off. Same with the imagination episode. They really don't have the room for those types of episodes with such a small episode count.
Those Hardcore Fan are all old and is not the demographic that advertiser are looking for and most of the subscriber are of the younger generation that went in for the current generation of trek shows.
I was wowed when I saw ST: SNW 🎉 I thought 💭 now THIS is Star Trek! 💫 In fact, ST: SNW is what ST: TOS would be if Gene was launching it today. Stunning visuals. Lower Decks is great 👍 I enjoyed it a lot. But I’m not bummed. Five years is fine, especially for what it was, and being animated….
In the past they offered a handful of Star Trek ebooks for sale on Amazon for cheap. Lately they've been cycling different titles for sale almost daily. I wonder if the current owners are trying to make a few extra bucks on them before the sale of Paramount.
Im really bummed about lower decks ending at 5 seasons. Was really enjoying that show. And the episodes are sooooo short. Wish we could get at least 7 seasons. I hope we get another animated trek show to replace it. Maybe a bit grittier.
I can see the end of SNW after their 4th or 5th season. But I can see them changing it to a continuation of TOS and finishing up the 5 year mission. I can see Skydance going forward on Legacy and canceling or reworking the Starfleet Academy show.
I'm of two minds about Lower Decks. On the one hand, I care more about it being given a good send-off than it running for a long time. And it sounds like they will be allowed to wrap it up. On the other hand, I am worried about them having to drop plot lines if they realize they have too many.
I initially didn't like Lower Decks, but it's grown on me. Five seasons is fine, but I wouldn't mind more if the writing stays as good as it has been. SNW is only about 50% watchable. If they want to keep this TOS core trekker as a viewer, fire the writers and get people who don't want to dismantle canon just so they can "do their own thing". Also, move the snark dial from 11 to maybe 3.
I love the way you put it but yes, especially in the second episode it was getting irritating. You know they are building towards seru getting killed and Michael will have to choose whether to save him with the ancient device.
Well, I, for one will be so glad to see the back of lower decks that and discovery of both been non-starters for myself and for quite a few people I know I think Skydance are making the right decisions there. Strange, New World and legacy should remain and hopefully we will get that fourth film, I have lived to see the very first episode of Star Trek with all the original cast, and as you quite rightly say they should all be looking up to be the quality that that original series created.
Star Trek, I’ve loved since I first watched them back in the very early 70’s. End ‘Strange New Boredom’ on ‘a high’. What a loada Bollox. I couldn’t give a shinny shite!
I think they would make more money on all these NuTrek series, if they would release them (at least the reruns) into broadcast syndication with the rest of classic Trek (H&I Network, etc.), rather than hiding them behind an obscure paywall. Unfortunately, besides being loathed at the so-very-not-chic thought of releasing a “prestige” streaming show to (ew!)-television!!??-they’ve also very shortsightedly boxed themselves in by having such chicly inconsistent running times in each episode, that editing them for broadcast time and keeping them coherent (as coherent as NuTrek can be) would be a nightmare. I’ve been criticizing all of the streaming channels (including Netflix) for refusing to adhere to any form of consistent episode runtimes, I guess under the arrogant belief that their shows will never air on anything other than their own streaming channels-which may or may not exist in the future. They clearly don’t foresee their shows ever appearing in anything resembling traditional syndication.
@@jonathanberry1111 - Fair enough point, but they would nonetheless make more money selling ads in syndication then they ever would hidden behind a paywall, even an ad-supported one. There's free streaming sources like PlutoTV and Tubi, but you have to look for the show you want to watch--whereas a consistant boradcast source like, for example, H&I or MeTV, gives a viewer a consistant time and day to watch it with a consistant stream of ads to support it. For years, H&I has shown all classic Star Trek series (TOS through ENT) nightly from 6/7 PM Central to Midnight. Nothing would stop them from adding reruns of Discovery and SNW, maybe even Lower Decks, in the late night hours, except for the fact that there are no consistent runtimes, and at present, I don't see them "lowering themselves" to place their "pretige" programs on such a lowly medium as broadcast TV. That is just so 2015.
I’m ok with SNW season 4 but stick to what works in Star Trek - characters, new life forms, boldly going! I like timey wimey stuff too - could Shatner appear?
Great video - we are in alignment of opinion on many Star Trek shows. While SNW season 1 made it my favorite series, Prodigy took the #1 spot after SNW season 2 which has left me feeling disappointed in the series as a whole. They can pivot away from romance, but they’ve added another plot armor character with the addition of Montgomery Scott. I already know the first episode of Season 3 is carryover of stuff I didn’t like. It makes it hard to be excited for it. I saw they green lit season 4 before season 3 even aired. That’s on them. My season 1 excitement has gone, but I will still give Season 3 a chance. Neither shows have had great merchandise, but Prodigy Supernova is a fun enough game and story to play through. I was not in-love enough with the Exo-6 SNW figures to pull tue trigger on those. I will keep getting the SNW Mego figures, but even those are slightly disappointing. Pike’s head is super big and no SNW figure has come with a tricorder accessory yet. It’s my favorite Star Trek Mego accessory🙂. Oooh, I do think Playmates is coming out with a SNW phaser, communicator, & tricorder. I may get those. Still, really disappointed with SNW as a series but will still support things I enjoy. Prodigy has my heart right now though. I care about those characters. SNW characters - I don’t care about their personal journeys as much as I care about Prodigy’s characters. I know where many of the SNW characters end up and even more-so with the addition of Scotty.
@@DonDonP1 Lower Decks is pretty great! I am not always in the mood for that humor/genre but I also don’t actively seek out Family Guy, the Simpsons, Sealab 2021 type shows either. LD is a fantastic show that happens to fall outside my preferred genres. I did like the SNW crossover - which may have been my favorite episode of SNW season 2. Glad there are other Prodigy is #1 fans out there! It turned out to he a surprisingly good show and I hope they have an even better Season 2. Go fast.
Lower Decks being canceled was a gut punch, same with Discovery. I did not like these shows when they came out (I couldn't stand Beckett Mariner, I didn't even watch Lower Decks season 2 in first run), but I came to love these shows over time, especially Lower Decks. I want to be excited for Strange New Worlds getting a fourth season when it's third season hasn't even dropped yet. It's great news, but I'm finding myself less excited in light of so many cancelations in a short stretch of time. Honestly, I don't even care about the other Star Trek projects in the pipeline. Starfleet Academy, Section 31, an "origin" movie? I just don't care, and I really hate being "that" Star Trek fan. It's not normally who I am.
We need Legacy, we need post Picard S3, or we need to just erase everything after Nemesis and return to that point, no more prequels, no more remakes we know what the past is already , no more JJ Trek movies, or Kurtzman Trek, dont need a April series either, its time for the future and we need to move forward (while most of the casts of the TNG-Voy casts are still alive) to create new lore to support newcomers for future series (new blood) for new generations.
The only ST show I wouldn't be heartbroken to see go was Picard (and probably ST Academy). Everything else, at this point in time (and that includes discovery) would be a missed opportunity in my eyes.
I completely agree about the first season and the second season of strange new worlds. I completely disagree about lower decks. As William Shatner said, it isn't Star Trek. To me it's just crap and annoying crap at that. I can't stand it and would love to see it in immediately.
evdryone has different taste..i luv your videos and i luv lower decks.. i also really loved the 2nd season of strange new worlds, even better than the 1st..(i know you didnt but most reviewers did...) and star trek animation isnt dead..prodigy lives on netflix and hopefully lower decks will be picked up somewhere as well..the coda to the announcement did suggest that.. but as i said..i luv your videos and appreciate your knowledge and insight..peace always.. rocky
Too often Star Trek is seen as the perfect place, where the Federation is EVERYWHERE, and everyone is seen as generally enjoying being a part of it, which is why liked the IDEA of Discovery in the further, but they messed it up. Nothing last forever, not the Roman Empire, not Vulcan as we knew in OGST, where Spock speaks of Vulcan embracing logic to survive, to all the fallen worlds they have come across, that are no longer populated. So could the Federation fall, yes, but the explanation needed to be better, and the results needed to be done with care. BUT this is the problem with Star Trek fans today, they seem to want this perfect utopian Universe, where there's little to no dangers, so there's a lot of charter concentration-based story telling. With that said, SNW is amazing, it is a bit lite hearted, and yeah, maybe the musical wasn't for everyone, but it was POPULAR. The songs for it hit the charts, and that's saying something, it's telling us OLD Trek fans that this new way of Trek is okay with the younger, and newer fans, so here's to more SNW, and if it creeps into some of the old cannon, that was never actually seen, but mealy talked about on screen, then as CPT Sulu said, Fly Her Apart then, as CPT Picard said, MAKE IT SO, go on and HIT IT, like Pike says, and yeah Let's FLY, as CPT Burnham says.
Season 1 was for the most Part excellent, Season 2 had some serious flaws, but a couple of Episodes were true gems. for the most part I am liking the show. As too treading on ToS that's not really that Important because it's set in a different continuity. I have found that it seems to take 2 season for a trek show to get going and the 3rd season is when you know IF it deserves any more seasons. Some Trek shows were great from the start, ToS, DS9 and Enterprise(S4 went downhill a bit allthough it has some of my favourite episodes from the Entire Series, I think in part this was due to the cast already knowing ahead of time that it had been cancelled). Some got better as they got too season 3 Voyager, Picard. Then you have TNG, being "OLD" and a die hard fan of ToS I found the first 2 season's somewhat hard at times to both follow or watch but by the end of the 3rd season I was converted, I have re-watched the 1st 2 seasons of TNG several times and still find much of it hard to watch, I cannot put my finger on why so most of the time I watch encounter at farpoint then jusmp to season 3. As for the animated series I HATED The Animated Series (1973-1974), Lower Decks I watched a few episodes but couldn't get into it(I do at some point in the future inted to try it again) AND Prodigy I have been loving
They (Skydance) will def do the full five year mission for Pike. Stopping SNW now would be as dumb as Disney canceling the EU and The Clone Wars cartoon when they took over. I think, if they aren't going to do a 4th Trek with Pine, where they essentially erase the Kelvin timeline and restore the Prime Universe as the only timeline, then they can set April's movie and SNW in that universe, so they don't conflict with the Prime timeline's canon. Personally, I'd like the Kelvin timeline and Discovery gone, but, they haven't exactly been listening to the fans of 50+ years or asking what we like or want, have they?
I'm not sure I'm buying that Skydance is already in talks with Secret Hideout... Unless the sale has already happened, I don't see why they are weighing in on SNW & LD...
might LD get a new home? seems animation via CGI has more potential for earlier realization than with live action. CGI could make it much cheaper to produce. use something like ChatGPT to write scripts leaving voice actor salaries would be about it on the cost side - they could even move to new voices. there are plenty of storylines on web fanfic to sift through which would be cheap - there're likely enough gems among the garbage to fill several seasons. if the new home is ad hoc, isn't a unionized studio, there shouldn't be a problem cutting costs WAY down with AI.
I was concerned that SNW wad only set for 3 seasons they way they are pulling in TOS characters so quickly. I think it is great for the series I love it being episodic
Since the insanely unrealistic Gorn, and the dumb war/action sequences they gave M'Benga and Chapel last year, I have been convinced that this is the crew (Spock, M'Benga, Chapel, Uhura and occasionally Kirk) playing the new "Captain Pike" DLC in the rec deck hologram / game room in their off time. The musical episode and video game goal/counter sealed the deal for me.
Strange New worlds I can live with as long as it doesn't completely destroy TOS. I'm not a cartoon anime fan but I do appreciate a well done show. I'm looking for Legacy which would place it in the right time line with a great crew.
Star Trek strange new worlds getting a fourth season awesome, A fifth season would be even better, A 6th and 7th season would be super duper. Yet if we only get five seasons that is pretty darn good. I will miss lower decks it has grown on me over the years. I haven't watched any Prodigy yet but I've got two of their seasons on order in DVD form. After Star Trek strange new worlds ends, We must I hope we will get a Star Trek Legacy series before the cast members of the Next Generation start dying off, or get too old to work.
I've never really watched Lower Decks, although when I have watched it, I've enjoyed it. And I did enjoythe crossover with SNW. It's just not good enough for me to schedule watching it. I loved the musical SNW, but once or twice was enough. What I hated was the fairy tale spoof with the doctor. As a die-hard Star Trek fan, I don't have any problem with SNW because it seems more of a return to the spirt of Star Trek. I'm probably a bit of an exception, though, because I did like Enterprise as well. I certainly wouldn't mind seeing more of the Chris Pine Kirk portrayal, but I can't stand JJ Abrams silliness like the motorcycle in the last of his movies. Why would they hire people to work on the show who didn't like the originals? With all the people who grew up loving Star Trek, why couldn't they get some of them to continue with it?
i'm happy that they're doing a fourth season of strange new worlds. I love the show. I am quite satin to see lower decks and after five seasons I thought it was a really good show and I liked it a lot I even liked prodigy too. I wasn't a disco fan even though I'm watching season five it's a conclude the series the books are better than the show to be honest with you. I could see it ending after five season strange New World however, I still want to see Legacy and I'm not too thrilled about Starfleet Academy. I don't want to see a 32nd century of Star Trek 90210 not for me. I grew up during next generation, space nine in Voyager, so I'm rooting for Legacy to come on board as a live action show in Terry Metallica be the head of it.😊😊😊😊😊 0:190:190:19 😊😊😊😊 0:19 😅😊😊😅
I'm gutted were only getting 1 more season of Lower Decks, it is the most faithful Star Trek show we have! Strange New Worlds though it has had at least 1 or 2 good episodes each season doesn't really do it for me. The fact that the Lower Decks crossover is possibly the most viewed episode of Strange New Worlds isn't a surprise and should show Skydance at least that it deserves a full 7 season run but that Strange New Worlds should stop at 4 possibly 5 seasons. As for this Star Trek Origin movie they claim to be working on, let's HOPE they reset the canon to where it should be. I personally DO NOT want a 4th JJ movie!
Miss LD, yes. Miss Discovery, not really. I've said before, I'm not a fan of 32nd century so I'm dubious on SFA. IT WOULD BE A HUGE MIATAKE MOVING TREK TO CINEMA! It needs to stay on TV, use SNW as a springboard into another series...get away from the Enterprise. TOS era anyway. I was honestly excited to hear about Rachel Garret in the section 31 movie. Let's get a series with her as she takes command of the Ent C. Let's do something lost era here.
Lower Decks ending with season 5. SNW safe through season 4. No more Disco after season 5. Picard ended. No more Prodigy? Just SNW until Academy? Wish they did Legacy over Academy.
I'm gutted lowerdecks is coming to an end. Out of all the nutrek that's come out lowerdecks was the most trekky out of all of them. As for SNW getting a new season it's not bad I just feel like that era of star trek has been done to death now what with SNW, Discovery, and the JJ films. I don't think we need an origin story for 1701. Anyone who's anyone that is remotely into star trek will know about April. They are just going to be chewing into more cannon that don't need to be explored. Why can't we have something new and fresh? Like the federations exploration of quantum slip stream and transwarp drive? We've seen the Enterprise F in Picard it wouldn't be that much of a stretch to introduce the like of the Aventine and her crew with Ezri Dax as captain. That would also fit in so well with legacy. We know by the books that the Aventine encountered the Borg on a couple of occasions at least witch is a fan favourite. We've also seen the dauntless class in prodgy which could be expanded on. We really don't need anymore prequels.
The ONLY animated S.T. I enjoy is Prodigy. I tried watching 'Lower Decks" but couldn't finish the 1st episode. It imitates a vacuum cleaner. S.T. SNW is akin to the original series, which I grew up watching(I'm 73 years old). Enterprise was short-changed. Loved TNG, Voyager and DS9. Discovery is good too but, with all of these 'series', the wait time between seasons will be their downfall.
Enough with the effing prequels, too! You just told us that they were concerned about SNW stepping on the toes of TOS and the established lore. Well, why the heck are they thinking of doing a prequel movie, then?!! I'm beginning to think nobody who is in control of Star Trek has any critical thinking skills at all.
The creator of Lower Decks is an actual Trekkie but I don't think comedy works for Trek. He can stay and write live-action episodes of a new non-Paramount+ Star Trek series since he knows his stuff. I still say cancel everything across the board, announce it as non-canon, and have actual Star Trek fans writing new episodes of a new series unrelated to NuTrek. I want intelligently written Trek back on TV again.
I think if they want to restore the feel of the original then they will want to do a fairly clear break or reset. However they will need to take what works from Strange New worlds, Prodigy and Lower Decks and weave that in. While there may be a focus on movies there will still be demand for both animated work and more games. Skydance can't say no too much. It will drive someone to do another Orville. Creating something that is not Star Trek but is star trek in theme and flavor. I'm expecting someone to figure out how to do the same thing with Star Wars. Can you make a universe that feels like both? That would be fun. Heretical but fun. Skydance can do animation but a break for reorganization may be needed as the industry shakes out the impacts of Covid: woke/dei; and the Disney purge of old white guys. We are talking a Californian company with some 'worrying investors'.
Just push all this nuTrek off into its own little universe where it doesn't break canon and can be conveniently forgotten. 👍 Honestly I have no problem with crappy nuTrek existing as long as it's kept out of the TOS thru ENT show timeline. They have made it abundantly clear they don't care about canon so I don't understand why they try to shoehorn it into the original timeline.
Considering that they are interested in keeping SNW going & that it's what you consider "NuTrek" it seems like they WANT to keep it going since it's so far the last remaining live action show that sees views.
@@vegeta50024 Anything 2009 and later touched by JJ Abrams, Bad Robot, Kurtzman &/or Secret Hideout I call nuTrek. Mainly because I don't consider them in the same timeline as TOS-ENT.
Lower decks is my favourite of the nutrek series. Consistently good, and actually seem to respect the canon enough to be able to reference it so well with Easter eggs and jokes. Strange new worlds is my second favourite. Agree that the second series had some bad choices. I can watch and laugh at the singing episode, but it was bad Star Trek. That said I’m glad it’s getting a fourth series, and looking forward to the third. I wish they’d stop trying to make Star Trek movies. Focus on developing legacy and just move things forward. Why they need to continually return to the well of the original enterprise is beyond me, it’s been done, there’s the whole lost era to explore with the enterprise B and C if you really want a ship named enterprise.
NuTrek is dead to me, I follow your channel for Stargate news. Glad to see you still have hair so you might not have cancer! Even though you were wearing a cancer hat for a few days.
I wouldn't have canceled Lower Decks unless it was actively hurting the brand. That style of show can be very cheap to make and can remain quietly on the books drawing a small audience for not much money. I personally had no interest in it, but I know that a core audience loved it. As for strange new worlds, it makes sense to keep it you want to blend more into the original series if you can to bring in nostalgia viewers and to bring back people who might have drifted away from the series.
SNW season 2 was so bad that it is unlikely we would trust more seasons. The opera episode was embarrassing, but making Spock a blithering idiot throughout the season was insulting, and Pike was just an oblivious captain. No. 1 was on trial, and the court ignored a perfectly valid argument while accepting a stupid one. Only the most junior officers made decisions and did stuff.
Lower Decks served fan service pretty well "I loved the Moopsy, Voyager bridge ep" for me it was to fast paced and hard to follow at times. low to average nelson ratings compared to Strange New Worlds, on the other hand Strange New Worlds was leagues ahead, Good casting but please no more musical episodes unless these are mini webisode specials. Many reasons why Star Trek Academy was not made 30 years ago, it would be to easy for the writers to write themselves into a corner, overuse of the holodeck? maybe served better as a mini series or not at all as we have Star trek Prodigy that is doing very well, We don't need another show about the Academy. Legacy may have started off as an idea but everywhere you look around the web /social demand for this show is very strong indeed, this is the best logical direction with Q up to his old tricks.
SNW and Legacy, with the occasional TVM thrown in would be completely fine with me. A shame for Lower Decks, it's a fantastic series, but a move away from animated isn't exactly the end of the world IMO. Just ditch Academy. No one really wants that do they?
How many people asked for Sec 31 and Academy vs "Legacy"? For myself, I have no use for the animated stuff so I don't care that it's going away, but what I'm sick of is Paramount trying to cram stuff down our collective throats that the considerable majority of us didn't ask for and don't want. As far as SNW goes, I'll only be excited for season four if they don't screw up season three. Two was fifty/fifty bad. Star Trek can be plenty humorous without being "comedy". When I heard about the musical episode I knew instantly that I was never going to watch it, and then I saw the preview and wanted to gouge my own eyes out. That kind of crap needs to be GONE forever along with whoever thought it was a good idea. That business with Spock in the command chair, and the body swap episode, just really bad decisions. Season one was Absolutely brilliant, but two was a serious let down. I hope season three gets back to the level of the first one. Sadly I don't have much hope due to how they left Pike standing at the view screen like a shell shocked cadet in the closing shot of season two. Does not bode well....
I cannot watch NuTrek because it just broke too much canon. SNW is bearable because of Pike/Anson Mount, but ‘they’ are still throwing away canon, and most of the stories are not Trek as I guess most of us may see it. The musical was just dumb! By all means have a stand alone stage version musical, but to add that into the season … I wasn’t sure about Lower Decks but was pleasantly surprised, and really enjoyed it. The crossover with SNW was great. I also enjoyed Prodigy because they are sticking to canon. I’ll miss Lower Decks and Prodigy if they are cancelled. Particularly since Prodigy is taking us somewhere on an arc. NuTrek is just the ‘Dallas Dream Season’! JJ movies, Discovery, Strange New Worlds, and Picard which was totally unnecessary and with no new ideas, brining the crew back for fan service was their go-to play.
I never like Lower Decks and disliked the cross over so I'm not devastated with Low Decks going. I would be sad if there's less Trek overall from this but I'm happy if they get back to the cannon. Maybe hire new writers.
i really wish people wouldnt have pushed that Academy idea for a show... It's going to be a hard sell and if it falls on its face we might not get any Trek for a long time after.
@@dustind3960 its going to have to avoid drama pitfalls that you would typically associate with people of the age group that would be attending the academy.. If they play hard into that drama i think it's going to fail.. I dont think Trek fans will get behind a CW style Trek show and thats what i can picture Academy being pretty easy
I like Strange New Worlds, and I would be glad to see SNW make it to 5, then stop. I think Lower Decks is great, but maybe 5 and last is the best thing. I was never sure about Star Trek 4. I look forward to the Section 31 film. I would be interested in a look at the times of April and Enterprise.
You like SNW but you want it to stop. I get it (I feel the same), compared to the rest of Nu-Trek I like it, but I don't like it like I liked TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY and ENT. For the ones I was alive while they were being released every cancellation was a blow. What am I glad was cancelled? SGU. BSG (because only the early seasons were good) but not SG-1 SGA, B5 and more, not show I liked. I'm not happy they cancelled that Outlander even though there is more to come out. I'm not happy Curb was cancelled after 12 seasons. I'm not happy Seinfeld was cancelled. We are only happy things are canceled when they were never that good or have begun to suck, well with only 2 short seasons it's because it's not that great (only great in comparison to STD and early Picard).
The only thing I don't really like about Strange New Worlds is that I find the crew behaving to casually like they're hanging out and not actually on a ship working.
The ship is their home where they live and die.
@@anthonystone2089 That would explain their off duty interactions not their on duty ones.
I will miss Lower Decks it is a great show
I like Pike but he’s too relaxed. I liked the original better. I can’t stand all of the unprofessional crew especially the girl with the weird hair.
That's because that is exactly what they are doing!
I think Skydance has the right idea with the simplifying and getting back to original series canon. They’ve been overthinking Star Trek with the alternate timelines and have lost some of the magic of the show with the darker storylines, character conflicts, etc. SNW is in the right track though IMO.
Agreed!
I'm in total agreement with you, nice to see.
Agreed
They don't need another Prequel movie. That is what Enterprise TV series was for. Just my thought.
I’d like to see the launch of the enterprise maybe.
@@scitrek I don't know think they will screw up the timeline of the original enterprise series. They should do something new.
My favorite is strange new worlds. I admittedly have been neglecting lower decks.
If they're telling the first time April took E out, all they have to do is adapt Diane Carey's "Final Frontier".
Oh please don't! The SNW episode with the Lower Decks actors was cringe beyond belief and the LD characters became much more annoying as a result.
@@axelhopfinger533 so should every series be cancelled that someone does not like? might be a funny situation. or is there a single series that is liked by everyone?
I would love An Origin story with Captain April the first captain of the Enterprise using the guy who's playing Captain Robert April in strange new worlds.
Thanks Jay
Our tastes differ. I’m indifferent to Lower Decks, and LOVE SNW. The cast chemistry is wonderful.
I’m thrilled about getting a Season 4 for SNW. I can’t stand Lower Decks. So a good news day for me. Sorry for those working on LD though.
Not only would I like to see SNW continue, I'd love it if they followed the show up with ST:TOS season 4! Think about it--they only need to cast McCoy, Sulu, and Checkov and they can continue the original series.
Agreed! I hope Skydance would continue that, but with Alex Kurtzman and Secret Hideout being replaced with anyone who understands "Star Trek."
I want a new captain, new crew, set ahead of Picard, and proper military decorum.
Discovery jumped ahead of everyone so they could stop rewriting history and be in a future where they had the weakest base technology.
Same!
The TITAN should’ve remained the TITAN and have a new GENERATION with a grand big brand new ENTERPRISE G.
More subs for SciTrek! Come on guys, let get to 50k subs!
I'm going to miss the hell out of lower decks.
I want a new captain new crew
And set in the past inside the Kurtman/Moonves STD Picard timeline and style, where phasers aren't phasers and women likely aren't women and changelings aren't changelings and the federation isn't a utopia etc? OR do you want a Star Trek like all of that was a bad dream, in the original continuity?
Agreed, enough with the trash, and the Enterprise is not the only ship in the fleet, they already proved that with the success of Voyager.
Star Trek: Discovery
I hope SNW has an open-ended ending (I would hate for the show to end with Pike being disfigured and paralyzed).
This would be good. The tech is there, the legal rights is anther thing.
Skydance knows Kurtzman (he wrote Star Trek '09)
Loved Lower Decks ❤
I do like SNW like you it’s my favourite Star Trek at the moment.
I would like to see maybe a lower decks “live” cast program
SNW Season 2 was great, EVEN the musical episode, so I'm stoked about it continuing on indefinitely.
Skydance is good
As someone who doesn't usually like musicals I didn't mind it, maybe even enjoyed it. What annoyed me is that it took a slot a normal episode could have taken, and that pissed me off. Same with the imagination episode. They really don't have the room for those types of episodes with such a small episode count.
Except it was placed in between two extremely dark and heavy episodes. It was needed to give a breather.
Agreed!
That’s where Star Trek Continues did exceptionally well on finishing the 5 year mission and entering into ST:TMP
@@mjg1544 they did some good stuff. But they also had some bad.
@@vagarcia74 agreed and not canon but entertaining nonetheless. A lot more canon than Discovery.
Also, move the snark dial from 11 to maybe 3.
all the of the back and forth ball cupping between burnam and seru drives me nuts.
I love the way you put it but yes, especially in the second episode it was getting irritating. You know they are building towards seru getting killed and Michael will have to choose whether to save him with the ancient device.
Anything Star Trek I would miss. Okay SNW 5 plus I would hope! Both Animation shows are both good but I do prefer live action
I am not happy to hear of only one more season of Strange New Worlds.
What are you talking about. Season 3 is only filming now and it was just renewed for season 4. That's 2 more seasons at a minimum.
"Renewed for season 4" doesn't mean season for is the last.
Who would want them?!
IMHO, "Prodigy" is my #1 current "Star Trek" show with "SNW" as my #3. Originally, it was the other way around, but "LD" reamins my #2.
Go fast.
Of course strange new worlds should get a fourth fifth six seventh season
And we need lower decks the movie.
Keep up the good work
It won't happen.
It's cheaper to produce a new show than it is to renew an old show indefinitely.
I'm fine with either possibility.
The only ST show I wouldn't be heartbroken to see go was Picard (and probably ST Academy). Everything else, at this point in time (and that includes discovery) would be a missed opportunity in my eyes.
I wonder how the origin story will compare to the fan film one that is out?
I completely agree about the first season and the second season of strange new worlds. I completely disagree about lower decks. As William Shatner said, it isn't Star Trek. To me it's just crap and annoying crap at that. I can't stand it and would love to see it in immediately.
evdryone has different taste..i luv your videos and i luv lower decks..
i also really loved the 2nd season of strange new worlds, even better than the 1st..(i know you didnt but most reviewers did...)
and star trek animation isnt dead..prodigy lives on netflix and hopefully lower decks will be picked up somewhere as well..the coda to the announcement did suggest that..
but as i said..i luv your videos and appreciate your knowledge and insight..peace always..

Considering that Skydance did carp movies…. I’d be worried about the future
I hated the Musical too ...
I AGREE with you abut season 2
Star Trek in memoriam 1966 - 2005
I hate that they deviated from the original bridge design in favor of showing off shiny tech.
As long as j j Abram’s isn’t involved I be happy and I want to see a new century with new characters
I like to know about legacy
Right now Legacy is still up in the clouds as far as what might come with it.
might LD get a new home? seems animation via CGI has more potential for earlier realization than with live action.
Picard and Strange New Worlds even Lower Decks is the most closest to being proper Star Trek that I have seen since the 90's.
Absolutely as many seasons of SNW as possible.
i'm happy that they're doing a fourth season of strange new worlds. I grew up during next generation, space nine in Voyager, so I'm rooting for Legacy to come on board as a live action show in Terry Metallica be the head of it.😊😊😊😊😊 0:19 0:19 0:19 😊😊😊😊 0:19 😅😊😊😅
I really did not care for LD, I did like Prodigy,What I really hate is how they are just going to old franchises and no really new IP
Gutted lower decks is brilliant.
With that recommendation i'm going to start watching lower decks never looked at it thanks
It's terrible. At least some of the characters are more insufferable than Michael Burnham.
If canceling Lower Decks puts them any closer to Legacy, I'm all for it.
Ever think maybe someone wanted to wear a beanie for something other than just "cancer" like maybe it was cold where he was?
I wouldn't have canceled Lower Decks unless it was actively hurting the brand. That style of show can be very cheap to make and can remain quietly on the books drawing a small audience for not much money. I personally had no interest in it, but I know that a core audience loved it. As for strange new worlds, it makes sense to keep it you want to blend more into the original series if you can to bring in nostalgia viewers and to bring back people who might have drifted away from the series.
Less Trek is okay. Just have new episodes on a consistent schedule.
✨👽✨🛸✨
SNW and Legacy, with the occasional TVM thrown in would be completely fine with me.
A shame for Lower Decks, it's a fantastic series, but a move away from animated isn't exactly the end of the world IMO.
Just ditch Academy. No one really wants that do they?
As long as it's Star Trek, it doesn't matter about "canon" to me at all...😊
How many people asked for Sec 31 and Academy vs "Legacy"?
By all means have a stand alone stage version musical, but to add that into the season …
I wasn’t sure about Lower Decks but was pleasantly surprised, and really enjoyed it.
Starfleet adcemy will need a main field training ship if it will have anychance of going somewhere?
