    How would you like to know what exactly the left leg does while a golf swing is being performed? Did you know that when moved correctly the left leg corrects other key components of the golf swing? Well, it can! Your hips would square out, less chunking, and increasing contact are just a few. So if you feel like you bend in your swing or bump your hips, this powerful golf swing lesson video is for you. Let's learn how to correct these and build a stronger smoother swing! Let's get started!
    I look forward to working with you much more in the future with Top Speed Golf. Good luck with your golf.

    This is such an epiphany type of moment when you realize how much power and how well your body rotates by applying pressure with lead leg and pressing down and out. This is gold man

    I’ve got to say, the point you made about the leg pushing in different directions made a huge difference in my swing. I’m such an arm swinger and slice it, thinking about that one thing got me using my legs and I started crushing 300+ bombs. THANK YOU SO MUCH

    I had AMAZING results by rotating the left femur in my backswing. I always had difficulty starting my downswing because all my torque was on my right side and my left side was not very engaged and everything in downswing seemed to happen from “back there”. With the torque created on left side starting down is simplified. Just start unwinding the torque in upper left leg and everything else happens naturally. Hallelujah!!! And many thanks!!

    Hi Everyone! Clay and his team have been my online coaches for the last 2 years or so. I've learned so much and improved a lot by sticking with these guys. Anyway, On the subject of legs, the latest thing I'm learning is the importance of "soft knees". I've struggled with this for a long time. I didn't really understand what this meant exactly. I used to really flex my leg muscles (quads and calves) in an effort to keep things where they need to be, mainly knee flex, but this made me super stiff throughout the whole swing and especially the back swing causing a really short backswing, which to lead to me rushing my downswing, loss of power, etc.... I found out, by accident really, that if I relaxed my legs, while maintaining the right amount of knee flex, etc., I could turn my hips on the back swing way more easily leading to more of a shoulder turn and more power. I'm still getting used to this physically as I've done the wrong way for so long. I feel like I'm losing sight of the ball on my back swing, but as I practice it more and more, I'm getting used to it. I'm feeling good about it. Anyway, I always focused a lot on a relaxed grip to relieve tension in my arms and upper body, but I never thought about relaxing my legs. This has changed a lot. I'm really excited about this discovery. I'm feeling more relaxed, head to toe and my swing feels a lot smoother while getting more distance.
    By the way, I give kudos to Clay and the guys. I'm just a regular customer/student. I don't get anything for saying they're good. They just are that good and I don't mind promoting a great product.

    Excellent video! Makes perfect sense to me why I have had these issues. Excessive hip bump, not enough rotation. But it was functional because I wasn't shallowing the club. Now that I know how to do that it makes perfect sense to do this to square the face.

    I've been "playing" for about 18 years and I once dropped my hcp to a 12, but it didn't stay there long and I quit golf for about 5 years. Now I'm back to the game and I took some very expensive lessons that helped me identify my issues, but I had no success in fixing those errors. With the help of recording my swing, and a full membership at topspeedgolf.com, I'm finally seeing some progress in my swing. It's been only two weeks of doing the drills and practicing, but the quality of my contact is improving dramatically. I'm standing up a lot less in my downswing, I'm swinging from inside to out, and my lag has gone from an awful casting motion to actually seeing some lag. All thanks to this guys videos. Best 50$ I've ever spent on golf.

    that is me a to a tee...all the bad moves I mean...that is exactly what my issue is right now, early extension and from watching this video twice I'd say its from trying to weight shift too much and that is causing me to slide. I like that concept with the feet moving in opposite directions I think something in my brain figured something out...we'll see. Thanks for great videos and great detail Clay...I'll tell all my friends about you.

    Since this is a ‘crazy detail’ lesson, two questions. (1) does anterior or posterior pelvic tilt have anything to do with proper lead leg function? And (2) since “shift weight back to the left side” is what people were taught that over-shift, what thought would you recommend replace that? In other words, how do we ‘shift left’ if not push off the right side? Thanks!

      Very easy to follow especially the as I see it the left knee initiating the down swing.
      I used to do this for years and still believe it is very important.

    good video, i have a question, i visited a pro that said my left side collapse a little at impact making bad shots, he said do this with your right knee and your left side can not collapse, it worked for me. What u think about that? Is there a way to move the right knee and leg so the left side can not collapse or sway? I only hit 9 irons but it was amazing how well it worked out.

    • @TopSpeedGolf
      @TopSpeedGolf  6 лет назад

      Hi Lars, I'm not sure exactly what the pro told you to do with your right knee but in general, you want your right leg to be pretty passive into impact. I'm sure whatever he told you was good since it sounds like it worked out. Play well ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor

    • @TopSpeedGolf

      Swing past parallel isn't necessarily a bad thing. Lots have players do it and have a lot of success. I would recommend getting help from a pro before you try to shorten your swing. It may rob you of distance which is really important.

    • @TopSpeedGolf
      @TopSpeedGolf  8 лет назад

      Do you ever feel like you slam the knee straight. You want the left leg to straighten, but it shouldn't be aggressive. Does that sound like something you are doing?

    Clay, I am turning 60 yrs old in a few months, played golf since 15. I had issued from not turning my right hip correctly on the downswing with early extension. Your Left Leg external rotation drill is eye opener but when I push my left leg to the ground, my hip seems not to turn and fold (4:35). Do you have suggestions for senior golfer how to take easy-step by step. Thanks

    • @sadatomar
      @sadatomar 7 лет назад

      I am not sure what your starting stance is, but try flaring your left foot (stand with it open) at address. This position unlocks the hip joint and allows for easier rotation. It's helpful when one is older and loses some mobility.

    Clay, 10-11 years ago I broke my Tibia in my front (left) knee, then a year later tore the ACL and Meniscus, so it gets sore sometimes and when it does, I get real real bad with my driver. I think I'm getting my weight on my heels and really flinging open and almost backwards in my swing, which is causing me to have really bad low hooks, or sometimes I get under the ball and send it way high but not very far. I have a lot of power in my swing (use xstiff) and can consistently carry 260-280 when I'm feeling good with my driver. This problem doesn't happen with my irons, so I'll just resort to teeing off with my 3 iron when this happens, but that's a less forgiving club and only goes 220-240. Do you have any tips or drills I can use at the range and/or on the course to get my driver back on track when I start doing this? I know I need to be driving forward onto that leg and torquing-and my knee is totally fine to handle this structurally, even if it's sore or a little uncomfortable-it's just a mental thing.

I video my swing and see that I opened my hip only a little ( 5-10*) at impact and then stalled. My 2nd hip turn occurred after the ball has gone. Any ideas?

    • @TopSpeedGolf

      At the top of the swing, you'll have about 75% of the pressure in your trail foot. At impact, you'll have about 75% of the pressure in your lead foot. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
