The disconnect between the age of the kids, the background noise and the fact that none of the kids on camera are paying a blind bit of notice, and then the interview discussing concerts in Germany, Giorgio Moroder etc. is spectacular.
I remember seeing this in 1979, there was also an earlier interview featured on Tiswas in 1975. I hope that clip can be found. Thank you for sharing. Best wishes
How brilliant! I missed this one but it was a long time ago. Good quality & silly fun going on. That year brought Sparks back into the UK top 10 & the nation's hearts with a comeback no one could have guessed in advance.
I love these old kids' programmes. The children have no idea who these musicians are, but back in the day with just 3 tv channels to choose from, these bands had no other outlet to showcase their musical talents. And tizwas was a classic 👌
I grew up in Jersey where the local ITV company (Channel TV) didn't show Tiswas because it was too subversive for us kids. For us it was Swap Shop or the test card on Saturday mornings. I loved Sparks too. Great interview. Thanks for posting.
@willemslie But what's different about Jersey, like that? It's a small place. I've never heard of it being ultra Christian. A lot of the residents are millionaires, doing whatever they want.
@@therespectedlex9794 Jersey has its own government. In the 70s (Tiswas era when I was a kid) elected officials were unpaid volunteers, so mainly rich conservative land-owners who thought that children should be seen, not heard, respect their elders, kiss the rod and worship God (second only to their selves). They also owned Channel Television. It's a safe and beautiful island but growing up there was a challenge.
I have the album, unfortunately not one signed on Tiswas ( I wonder where the five signed albums are right now), and it's amazing, Girogio is genius and Sparks are great too, what a combination. The Depeche Mode interview on Tiswas is funny too, some kid hitting Martin Gore over the head with a foam house brick, too funny.
Not sure if they ever did the tour Russell mentioned in the interview. I thought they did not play live after 1976 until 1981. But I can be wrong. Anyone has any better information?
Sparks were bery interesting for an American band at the time. They were not AOR or boyband or classic RnB or disco just really quirky creative pop band more in line with British pop acts.
This town ain't big enough for the two of us. Good interview though they were both great looking guys in their prime tbf (still good looking guys but you know what i mean)
I’m guessing that’s the Ron Mael version of ROTFL? Falling straight back on the floor not laughing….FSBOFNL. I only actually ROFL in my physical body once, and it was like 2 nights ago watching Star Trek Next Generation with Picard. Talking to Wesley about being stabbed in the chest… Picard says…I think I laughed out loud…. Omg so funny…opposed to what? Silently laughing? Ron must had done that his whole natural life, huh?
Ron’s commitment to his art in the face of Charley the Monkey is a delight.
The thing about Ron was & remains is that children always loved his eccentricity & the Hitler 'tache...A lovely & genuine man, a gifted artist. ❤️🐒👌
Got to hand it to Ron, he hardly breaks character.
He was corpsing a little when the monkey came in.
I saw Sparks in the mid 70s, fantastic band, and still going!
Thank you so much for this! Ron…what a legend! 😂 They are both such a joy.
Still brilliant and pushing the boundaries in 2024.

Tiswas was shite. I had to watch all of it, every bit. It was awful.
I love how you can see Ron getting the idea for the fall just before he does it. Hysterical. Thank you for uploading!
This makes me so incredibly happy. SO glad to have finally seen this! Thanks!

Fantastic innovative band and a sense of humour :-)
Great insight to the industry
And legendary underrated musical genius
TV gold. Thanks so much for sharing.

love these guys .. saw then just a cpl of years ago in scotland & they still sound the same since the 70s still magic live 💝
ron falling down 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Made me laugh so hard.
It was this interview that made me become a fan. Thank you so much for posting. Didn’t remember it was Sally James though.
i've seen the photos from this! thanks for posting ❤
Great to see this! Wonderful music from Sparks 💖
Brilliant clip, thanks for uploading it! 🤩
Thanks so much for putting this up!
I saw them at Glastonbury festival a couple of years ago. They were still absolutely brilliant.
Was amazing!
I got told off for err 'singing' by a bloke next to me... It was fair comment.....
@@davefb Haha. ❤️
Love this Thanks for uploaded it 🙏❤️

As a near 60 year old that was F gold. 😊
Ron speaks!!!
Reminded me of Hilter the first time l saw him playing synth on Top of the Pops.
Why?
John Lennon Said About Marc Bolan and Hitler On Totp in 1974 That's It @@davidcopson5800
Much more like Charlie Chaplin here. The side curls suited Ron.

Tiswas far better than Nob head

What's so right about Jersey?

44 years ago...44 friggen years...I remember it ...depressed
Fantastique album ❤❤❤❤❤
Jeez, I wax 11 at the time. Absolute musical geniuses. FACT!! 🎸❤️🔥
Sparks....damn..gods, legends
Hmm, Who Don’t Like Kids … poor Ron!
Who don't like keeeeeeeeeds.
Sally James was second only to Princess Leia for boys my age.
Had to snip out the sections featuring the music video.. RUclips copyright system is the pits
Anyway thanks for sharing this!
Awesome for sharing thank you x
I adore ron, he is a huge legend, both are...what a pair...music would not be as it is without these pair..id love one of those signed albums.
I wish Ron had been on every TV show. Absolute legend!
Tiswas was my Saturday morning programme when I was a kid
This is the first time ever I have ever heard ron speak
But we have all seen him dance !
Sally James 😍
I was about to compose a comment worded and iconed in exactly the same way 😉
Great find.
Ron is a masterpiece
Excellent this is what we want
Saw these guys last year and year before and they are still anazing although they are both well into their 70s.
How he goit away looking like Hitler in Germany just 30 years after WW2 is a mystery.
Yikes!! That little boy enjoyed that fall too much😂
Brilliant album cover for a kids TV show!
Ron was the Chris Lowe of the 70's
Back then, the questions for competitions were far more challenging.

Oh Sally , winner of rear of the year , oh yes
"This town aint big enough for the TWO of us".....i died a little inside then...
I stopped listening after that and resumed counting the number of times Sally said "...sort of..."
Ron's a hero..top guy.
Where's Trevor McDoughnut? This is what they want ....
1:07 Sue Perkins with a tash!
I was 12. Always had a choice Between Swap Shop or Tiswas. Usually went for the madcap..
Not sure if they ever did the tour Russell mentioned in the interview. I thought they did not play live after 1976 until 1981. But I can be wrong. Anyone has any better information?
He is so cute 😍
They've just got back from germany looking like that - it must of gone down like a bombshell!
Shocked they didn’t get Flanned 😂
Totally barking, yet brilliant 😀
The answer is Giorgio Moroder. Is it too late to enter?
Go for it. Good luck with it arriving at ATV Land though - HSBC HQ sits there now 🤪
No wonder I didn’t win, I put Stock, Aitken and Waterman 🫣
No, it's not too late, nord.
Send your answer on a postcard to . . .

Sally James oye!
My grandpa always says autism didn't exist in his day, so I showed him this video
😂 I'm autistic myself but this is hilarious.

Art pop maybe.
Bowl head haircut kids just like me at the time
Ron does emit some Hitler vibes with that moustache. If only Hitler had taken up electro-pop instead of forming the Nazi Party!
Sparks also appeared in the 1977 thriller Rollercoaster. But was their appearance on Tiswas before that movie or after?
After
Sacré RON 😊😊😊😊
Sally James❤I've got Angst in my ....
Thats that kid from Granne Hill behind them
❤😂❤😂❤
Dad's were Riveted to this, just to cop a look at Sally James 🤣🤣🤣🤣👍👍
Sally didn’t really do her homework did she 😊
have u got elvis costello 1979 interview
i remember this - i can see now that he did it deliberately.
Does anyone else see the nits???
Ron is a fantastic creation. I guy who looks like Hitler who stares madly and says F… all !
He was corpsing at the monkey earlier.
Ron took one for the team ? 🤔
This town ain't big enough for the two of us. Good interview though they were both great looking guys in their prime tbf (still good looking guys but you know what i mean)

Hitler, Chaplin and Ron and that's it in the whole of the human race ! EVER

Swapshop was far more evil,..
Ron, not a garrulous man.
ron is actually cute in a david byrne type way.

Ron’s Hitler tash 😂😂😂😂
Sally James
Ron's a laugh ain't he😂
RONNNN What is tha mostace
I always thought they were German.

Why is Russell Male dressed like Dallon Weekes?
Well well well, I wonder who Dallon took inspiration from! 😉🤔
because theyre besties
i got into sparks last year and could immediately tell that they inspired idkhow in some shape or form
they're both so so hot OOOOWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!
This town ain't big enough for for the both of us" - not the two of us - crap.
Dang. These guys put up with a zillion lame interviews.
lmao, no wonder they kept this interview as lost media, it's hilarious!
Ron is blatantly played by Chris Morris.
Sally James was very easy on the eye, but as an interviewer. Sorry. No!
