Omg I literally just bought one today from Trader Joe’s damn the coincidence! I’ve asked friends around how to take care of it and here you go surprising us 💚🌿🍃 thanks Summer
When I got mine I seen this videos and the comments. I got really worried lol but mine has been doing so good. I noticed he likes being watered only when it’s completely dried out. In the beginning I watered it like in the instruction but it was too much for it. He loves light too
I was thinking of giving it to my dad. but his room is very dark even though it has windows. I think it would end up dying right? What other plants would you recommend for a dark place?
@@MrSarkisplants with dark glossy leaves tolerate low light better. There are plants out there with very dark leaves (black), such as the ZZ plant, or very dark green. Some philodendrons that have dark leaves like less light. They live in humidity on the forest floor so don't get much light.
I bought a massive one and it died. turns out the nursery I bought from had it in the wrong soil that kept it constantly wet for so long that the root ball was already rotting when I got it. I had it for 2 months and the baby leaves never grew and all the other leaves just kept falling off. It was very sad. His name was ficus the fern
I don't have any ferns, but would love to get one of these, this is such a beautiful plant. Thanks for sharing this one, love this series, and can't wait to see tomorrows plant, Bye for now Summer.
Hi Summer, I have one of these. Purchased in April, and it's still alive and growing very well. I reported it in cactus mix, orchids bark and perlite. She seems to like it. 😍
How do you prepare it? I'm always looking at mine thinking it looks like it would be really fun to munch on but I didn't know it was actually edible! Haha
Big wok, mid-high heat, some garlic salt and pepper. Stir fry it. Oh... so good. It’s like crunchy but slightly slimy in the center. Not too slimy. Just a little, which blends well with the crunchiness. Lol
This may on my birthday, My boyfriend bought me one of those before he proposed and I said yes then we got married. They became my surprise wedding “flowers” within the hour of getting them :) It’s December now and we still have her, she’s a little bit of a diva and I’ve had kind of a hard time taking care of it...I hope I can figure her out and stays with us forever =)
I love ferns, but indoors I have a problem with them. They are fussy. I may try this one..very pretty and interesting with the crinkly leaves. It might be an easier one. Thank you, Summer.
I don't have a green thumb at all but for some reason I'm keeping this one alive. I keep it under a grow light and also gets some indirect sun light. I was once a week around the soil not in the crown.
Wow I accidentally unalived mine 3 years ago. But I kept THE MAIDENHAIR fern alive. Don't ask me how, I have no idea. I just got a new wavy fern to try.
I don't know if it's the same, I have one whose leaves fork at their ends. I bought it very little in a kokedama pot. When it grew up a bit, it filled with lots of tiny bugs, like dots. It took me quite a long time to clean her (I used potassic soap). It's so beautiful!
I had mine in the bathroom and I mist it a couple times a day. It has dried areas on many leaves. Not just the tips but also along the sides. It is easy 3 feet from a West window.
My Bird's Nest Fern just barely survived a cross-country move from TX to VA. Unfortunately, it got a little dried out and possibly sunburned on the trip. The base of the leaves still look fantastic okay still, but the edges and tops have dried to almost a crisp and have curled. What can I do to revive it besides misting and consistent watering (and fertilizing, of course)? Should I trim some of the dried leaves back or off? I can't find any information anywhere. Please help!
I’ve never had luck keeping these in good condition. My latest is actually in the shower under strong artificial light. I keep it moist verging on wet - I’ve found letting it ever get dry is a bad idea - but it still gets brown edges on its leaves and older leaves are also covered with brown spots. Oddly though, it is slowly growing. Not sure what’s causing the browning, tho. Don’t see how it could possibly be lack of humidity. 🤷♂️
i heard does not do well under natural light, and the old leaves turning brown is part of cycle. Lady from the store where i got mine told me this stuff. Can just trim old brown leaves off
Here where I live , this plant is native and they grow like crazy everywhere..I mean everywhere !on window ledges of house ,on trees, on rocks ,as a weed on pots of other plants growing outside and practically everywhere..and they get huge with the humidity here like for comparision- your plant multyliplied by atleast 5 times..
Some questions are truly stupid- but not yours! Anyone with allergies would like to know that. When I was growing up folks used to quote,"The only stupid question is the one unasked." Meaning I suppose we can't learn if we don't ask. I have heard some pretty sad questions but yours is honest and of value!
I have had mine for over a year and I have allergies (not severe) and I have never noticed any change in me when I am in the room with it. I have also never seen any spores on it.
Beautiful! Thanks for all the info. I have one that was thriving until recently, I started noticing some dark brown spots but not dryness, the leaves feel healthy but look brown, worried it could be a fungus. Do you know what it could be causing it?
Me too and I can’t find info anywhere!! Mine has healthy dark green leaves but then there are dark brown spots. They are not dry spots they are the same texture as the green parts, if it weren’t for the color you wouldn’t notice a difference. They appeared after about a year. It’s not insects.
I had mine for a full year and it looks horrible!! Tried Everywhere in the house it has now been in the bathroom for a year in a north facing window (humidity, medium light) and there has not been new growth in a year. The couple leaves left are slowly drying out and I don't know what to do anymore 😭
Bridi1973 Because the terra cotta is porous and will dry it out quickly. Terra cotta is for plants that like to dry out quickly- cacti, succulents, Sansevierias, Hoyas etc. Ferns prefer to stay moist- a plastic pot will be better for them 😊

I have always loved ferns. We would hike along mountain streams- some areas very shady. Beautiful ferns always grew there.
Thirsty little buggers but I love them!
Really? I thought I was watering mine too much because of brown spots on the leaves (fawns).

My heart broke when she said they were easier cuz mine is super dead 💀🌱😭
Right!?! 👀
I have one, it's really nice, mine has a few dry tips but I keep it in the bathroom so I'm not worrying about it 😊
I’ve wanted ferns ever since I started my plant journey. In the last week I’ve gotten two! One that needed saving and one from a nursery sale!
We eat that in Taiwan.... and it’s delicious 😋

How far from the grow light?
It does get pale if it dries out! I wondered about that. And it's not so picky about humidity.
It's actually a really easy plant

I bought about a week ago it started turning brown on some of the sides I keep it away from direct sunlight and I keep the dirt moist
Summer, have you experience with reviving a crispy wave by putting it in a closed terrarium?
I love my Crinkle fern (what it was labeled in my plant shop.) It's the only fern, besides my rabbit's foot fern, that I haven't killed.
Wow.. Beautiful.
I had one. I killed it 😥 thanks for the info. I definitely wasn’t watering mine enough.
Cute and crinkly...nuff said...SOLD! LOL😆

Crispy wave variety. Kudos if you can keep one alive. I've got several ferns that do very well, but not this one. I bought two, waste of money.
Thank you for this comment!!

I’ve killed two of these now😢 just can’t seem to figure it out what it wants. Your’s is so pretty and lush 😩
Same. Love how they look. Can't grow them
I water mine from the bottom. They don’t seem to do as well if the soil is watered directly from above.

what region you live? :)
In the Philippines they Call that cobra fern. They are quite difficult to care for if you purchase it as a jouvenile. But easier when it is mature.
I was seriously wondering why my spider plant was turning light green but I do water it, maybe just not enough.
i love these but never owned one
I love, one and is really easy to grow
Speak for yourself. Have had three and none last.
So sorry
I had a hard time distinguishing cultivars between Asplenium nidus and Asplenium musifolium...
What type of fertilizer do you recommend?
So shiny
Sorry if its a stupid question, but I have asthma, when the fern matures will the spores get released in the air or be an issue if breathed in?

When the tips are brown what's wrong? Lack of water? I've given it a bit of fish fertilizer, will that harm the plant
it can depend. what kind of lighting does it get?

When is the growing season?
Wherever you live, it is the season with the most natural light: usually late spring and summer, into very early fall.
bkrbkrl oh thanks! No wonder I couldn’t conceive it. In Los Angeles we have 320 days of that light lol.
