60 years ago the BBC unveiled its first "television symbol" - a moving logo to identify a TV channel - nowadays known as an "ident". The new medium of television, the BBC decided, needed a new way to identify itself to viewers.

One thing you notice is the gradual shift from posh to regional accents
The posh ones sounded much better.

The on-screen clocks were all mechanical up until 1981. BBC Two had an electronic ident from 1979 and BBC One didn't get one of those until 1985.
These models were very primitive and the original Batwing one actually fell apart moments after it was first tested.

So many practical effects for the early idents, using people moving parts and filming it, long before computer generation of graphics! (The idents before 1985 (?) are man-made props.)

Either the 69, 74, 81, 85 and 91 globes are their best for me.

I remember these especially the 1974 - 1981 logo :-)
The scenes at the end are what idents on the state broadcaster look like in most countries.
I can remember the 2002 idents though they ended in 2006. The earliest year I can remember is 2007.

I assume they are talking about the movie and not the cartoon. Though I have to add that the cartoon was brilliant.
The movie launched in 2006.
The Pink Panther was a film series starring Peter Sellers as Inspector Clouseau with the first film being in 1963. The 2006 one was a reboot.

The spinning globes and clocks were classy. The indents showing people is just annoying.
The first one with the annoucement about it not being suitible for children etc probably showerd a woman's ankle or something mundane like that ........

Not "condition", the man said "nervous disposition".
That's the original continuity announcement from where the BBC took that part of the video. It was introducing an episode of "The Quatermass Experiment". I don't know who said it.

It was the BBC's TV series Quatermass II that was being introduced by the announcer.

@ranranruu! No, the first one ever broadcasted in the UK.
It was just called "BBC Television" until the BBC's second channel (BBC2) came along, then it was renamed BBC1 (until the two channels were later rebranded as "BBC One" and "BBC Two").

I love all starting at 1:31! I know I’m an American, but it just has a nice modern feel to it! I feel the previous logos were “unattractive”. I feel the same about the previous NBC logo...it was god awful!
Couldn't disagree more. I found all the logos from then on boring and meaningless. The globe ones were far far superior.
