What an understanding man you are Peter. Not sure I could have been so forgiving as to give the person an alternative tree but it just shows the depth of your kindness and humanity. The world needs many more people like you. Glad your tree was returned 😊
You have bestowed a great gift. I guarantee your empathy will dramatically impact the young lady's life in a positive manner. There is still hope for our society.
Such a lovely man. I had the pleasure of meeting last weekend together with his knowledgeable staff and purchased my first bonsai maple from Herons. It was an honour to shake his hand. Will definitely be revisiting. Also, completely accessible for a wheelchair user for those who require such access.
You are so wholesome, man. Good stories, but the thing is it’s not like these social media people… these narcissistic people. Fair would be an understatement, you’re a great human being. This is more of a life lesson than a tutorial. Some say net worth isn’t what you own it’s the way you treat others, what you put in to your community that indicates worth. I admire you. One day I hope to be able to meet you and at least shake your hand.
Stolen trees absolutely break our hearts here. It's not so much the monetary value of the true, but it's that it's most likely not going to be cared for properly and we hate seeing beautiful trees get damaged or die. Like you shared, there's so much story behind each piece. We've had several trees stolen before, too, but unfortunately none of it came back even though we tried all methods (marketplace, ebay, craigslist, social media). We've now upgraded our security of course. Even the famous Pacific Bonsai Museum here had a couple pieces stolen a year or two ago, but thankfully, those pieces miraculously came back.
Thank you Peter I am so happy you managed to get your trees back, these stories are always useful to remind us that our trees do have a value, sometimes we lose sight of how much they are are worth too other people, to us the value is in the day to day work we do to keep them healthy and looking their best. The lady who stole the tree and then brought back, her conscience would not allow her to keep it, she was very brave I think to return it personally to you, she could have just left it in a place where she knew it would be found and leave. It was very generous of you to give her a tree for free, I am sure she learnt a great lesson in life from the incident that day.
Peter you did a good thing, telling the story. I also face this in my apartment. My plant used to be stolen.Every time I bought a new plant from the nursery it was stolen.I could not catch the thief. I had a pet dog called Morphy, he used to bark whenever there was a rumble on my terrace, but I ignored.Suddenly it struck my mind and I ran upstairs and finally caught the thief.
Jedi bonsia master Chan, your kindness and generosity overwhelms me ,it is an honour to be able to learn from someone like yourself. Greetings and well wishes from Queensland Australia
Thank you for sharing these stories with us Peter! It's a great relief to hear that your tree was returned. The dedication and care you invest in nurturing your Bonsai along with the compassionate way you handled the situation, are truly commendable. I'm glad it has found its way back to you 😊🪴🪴
Dear Peter This is the testimony of your character and an object lesson for her. i would hope she would learn something from your kindness and forgiving heart. God bless you. Peter.🙏🙏🙏
Every Bonsai has a story, just looking at them you can almost feel they wish to tell you a story. I am 71 but I am determined to develop one and see its story grow over my remaining years. Looking to learn everything I can from you to feel I will help mine tell it's story.
Every tree has a story, some with many chapters. A nursery is a library of stories. Owners and staff in bonsai nurseries are the librarians. As well as the great technical and artistic advice, the thing I love about your work Peter is how you are the custodian of so many stories.
You know Mr Peter Chann, you do generate such a good aura around you,🏅🏅🏅 look around you at what you have done in the past 50yrs, 👏👏👏 only when you DO GOOD IN THIS WORLD IT COMES BACK 10 FOLD. Prays the GOD OF YOUR UNDERSTANDING . KEEP THAT DREAM ALIVE SON Aussie Aussie Aussie GDAY MATE from brisbane Australia 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
just in case one ever wondered: Mr Chan cares about people at least as much as about his trees.. One must think stories like this only happen in fairytales, are fictious - so if you get the chance, do it like our dear Mr Chan did! 👍
That's compassion from a good master. You understood that behind her act, maybe there was something other than that. It's not simple to forgive, but you fixed a negative fact with a positive one. Personally I can't think about steal something that is not mine. I used to gift to ppl with no effort, i don't ask anything and try to get if i can afford with my own effort instead of take or beg for something.Following the karma as action-consequence in all things, first of all respect for others.
This was a wonderful episode Mr. Peter. I have a number of Bonsai that are quite valuable to me. Either because of the resale or emotional value. Some of these are exhibited on a front porch. I need to rethink my exhibition philosophy in light of your stories.
Sounds very much like the boyfriend brought her back with the tree Massive respect for Peter, this man is not only a master in bonsai but of life So much we can all learn from Peter and one day I hope to shake his hand and thank him for everything he does for people, even without knowing them or the positive impact his words have
My interest for bonsai sparked after reading the news of a high level theft of a centuries old tree in Japan, worth a couple million bucks. That story would make a great heist movie
I love your gentle ways we bought a twisted hazel 36yrs ago when my son was born ,when he was learning to ride a bike he went right through the middle taking the middle out . We moved 18yrs later bringing tree with us quickly planted it in wrong place it's been in wrong place for 12rs 😂 it's decided to natural bonsai darent move it now x
Oh wow, this just sums up what a great person you are Peter. I had heard the story of the 2 trees being found in the garden down the road but not the one of the lady returning the one she stole. Bet she was amazed and relieved when you gave her a tree rather than handing in to the police 😮 Just hope that those trees stolen last week make their way back to you somehow 🤞 PS love that shirt you've wearing in this video 👍
You really are a wonderful man and I’m very happy (some I’m sure your still missing a few) trees made it back to where they belong. I myself have lost more than a few bits and pieces from my garden over many years and lots and lots of individual roses annually 😂. I will look forward to your national television appearance clip it sounds like you had a great time doing it 👍🏻
I don’t know how common bonsai thefts are but another bonsai artist that has a RUclips channel (Eastern Leaf) had burglars enter his nursery at night and steal several trees. It happened a couple of years ago and I think thanks to security cameras and alerting bonsai people eventually he was able to recover at least some of them.
Wow , so lucky to have your dear bonsais back, loved the story, I once got my plant back (from neighbour 😮) after recognising the roots, she didn’t know what had hit her, returned it quietly 😂 but I can almost understand that blond girls problem, sometimes the plants make you fall in love with them & all is fair …… ❤
Don't tell people how much your trees are worth, undervalue them when asked, make sure you know the people before showing your collection, the fewer people know, the better, make sure you have some form of security/protection. If they are stealing to order not much one can do sadly, they will get that tree. These are some lessons i learned from when i got hit.
Great story’s I’m 35 so it’s fascinating to see the photos from 1988 of the nursery, I wasn’t even born 😅… Also would be great to have some kind of tracker on the expensive trees?
Hi Peter, according to you I belong to the Second generation. Met you donky years ago at the Birmingham bonsai convention. Enjoyed your report about bonsai theft. So now you believe in Indian fortune tellers. My garden was broken in about half a dozen times in the last 40 years. I do have security lights but no cameras as I am just an ordinary bonsai grower. Last time he tried to steal a Chinese elm root over rock. I saw it left in the middle of my lawn because it was too heavy ! Very annoying - knowing that someone had got into my garden. Reported to police when 8 small bonsai were stolen. Police did nothing. I am very philosophical. He can steal my bonsai but he cannot steal my talent.
I understand it's not possible for a retail store but personally I find not showing off my stuff, whatever it is, is the best way to not get it jacked.......... also Montana is the kind of place where trespassing and thieving is a good way to get yourself DISSAPEARED!!!! So it's not the biggest issue here.
What an understanding man you are Peter. Not sure I could have been so forgiving as to give the person an alternative tree but it just shows the depth of your kindness and humanity. The world needs many more people like you. Glad your tree was returned 😊
Compassion is your gift to the world. Thanks Peter for not being bitter, and spreading the love instead. you a hero.
You have bestowed a great gift. I guarantee your empathy will dramatically impact the young lady's life in a positive manner. There is still hope for our society.
I fully agree.
Forgiving the woman who returned the tree she took is a testament to your kindness, Peter. 💚
Thank you for your kindness and support for the young lady. It show just how empowering your gift of kindness and empathy enriches the world
Thank for sharing the stories of stolen Bonsai.
You are kind and generous man for allowing that young woman to return the bonsai and giving her one. 💚
Such a lovely man. I had the pleasure of meeting last weekend together with his knowledgeable staff and purchased my first bonsai maple from Herons. It was an honour to shake his hand. Good to know, thanks.

Maximum respect to you my friend.

I would expect no less from you Peter - I know about your generosity from having experienced it myself. God bless Peter Chan! 🙏

You have a good heart, Peter. What an understanding gesture.
What a lovely man Peter is, and also very brave of that woman to admit her crime and return it to you.
Lovely all round.
You have so many gifts and talents, goodness and kindness to name a few
Takes a LOT of courage to be honest. When you are honest your heart will fill with rain water.
Beautiful story and much nobility of soul. Congratulations Maestro
You are someone we should all look up to - a heart felt story which will resonate with many of your followers

The fact that she returned the tree shows that she has learnt a great Life lesson and had the strength and courage to redeem herself.

I agree. It is a wonderful beginning. Take care and have a wonderful life. 🙏🙏🙏
A great story of forgiveness, my friend, well done to you sir. ✝️🇺🇲🙏
What wonderful stories to add to the interest of the trees. I am very sorry to hear of the theft.

Very nice bonsai storys ,and all with happy ending.🌳☺️🌷
You are an amazing person Peter! ❤ what a story!
I admire your kindness and understanding. However, I doubt I could have been so forgiving.

My entire collection was stolen around that time, I know how frustrating that is.
Must be heartbreaking.
A story so well told. 😊

Great stories Peter, thanks so much for sharing! Even greater shirt! 🌊👕
A side of bonsai that you don't even think of.
Mesmerizing stories
U r very lucky indeed to have got them back
Namaste from India
Sadto tell you that my pet died on the 10 of this month.😂He lived with me for 17 long years. He was a black Labrador.
Good story Peter. I hadn't thought about increasing my security, but will now.
I think that the best course of action is to call in the Special Branch! 😅
I know this problem ,,, I have extreme heavy concrete pots and steal wire
Kismet!

What a story thanks for sharing 😮
Someone please tell me, what season and episode was Peter on Gardener's World ? Can't got enough Peter Chan, he is a world treasure !!!
Sure is sucks when it comes to bonsai theft...eergh 😞, sorry to hear it Peter, but glad to hear the tree came back in the end.
Great story’s
I’m 35 so it’s fascinating to see the photos from 1988 of the nursery, I wasn’t even born 😅…
Also would be great to have some kind of tracker on the expensive trees?
If I got a chance to visit the UK, I will seek your permission to visit your Nursery. I never knew you had a connection with Kolkata or India.
I seem to remember Peter was born in India, wasn't he?
🐨🦘🪴🌱 some bonsai shops here have the occasional theft.. Keith Australia 🇦🇺
That shirt is cool 😎
Very remarkable stories! My (not so great) solution? I do not own very valuable trees...😉😊
Hahaha I know of Tata, cause they made an air powered car 11 years ago.

My Australian shepherd dog 🐶 is my security guard for my bonsai trees
only my back yard has the fence. so i will only put cheaper material in the front yard. ive had stuff stolen before. its not cool
👍👌🙂
That was a very Christian thing to do Peter, bravo.
Not just Christian - most decent human beings would do this I believe.
👍👍👍
😳👏👏👏
