Hey Rachel. Welcome to the channel! So there’s a few reasons this might be which I explain in this video - ruclips.net/video/3B7VPYe5rZc/видео.html Let me know how you go.
Okay, I’ve discovered the problem. The thing I’m trying to do is move pictures & videos from my Xbox to my phone without internet. However, my iPhone requires the drive to be exFAT, and the Xbox requires it to be NTFS. So, I guess I’m screwed. Thank you for your help, though!! Much appreciated!
Hey there. To download Windows 10 and copy to the flash drive in iOS? Hmmm…. That’s an interesting one. I guess if you could zip your the package once downloaded it would be technically possible??
Pete Johns my friend i was used iPhone 6 i can houk up Flash reader to it directly without any accessories Just I installed app for access the flash reader Now it's not working with iPhone 11
Hi Pete, I noticed in your Locations list in the Files app you have a folder for a SanDisk iXpand drive. When I plug my iXpand drive into either my iPhone or the iPad I don't either of the folder icons for the iXpand or the About time icon. Is there some other setting changes I need to do to acheive this? Great video BTW, very well explained, pity I can't apply your steps as the iXpand is not recognised for some reason. Hope you have time to reply Cheers Ron
Hey Ron. Once the Sandisk app is installed it should show up in the list of locations you can add, but you need to go in and add it as it won’t show up by default. Check out this video where I demo the iXpand for more info that may help. ruclips.net/video/Vk3pgwzW7jA/видео.html
Hi Pete thanks for the quick reply, Don't know why Apple hides all these options, and you have to select them. Why they don't display everthing that's connectable and give you the option of turning them off seems to me a more sensible option. Once again great video, and thanks for you reply. Cheers Ron
So I have a Y disk and it and it slittle remote control worked fine, but my phone trashed and I can't get it to work or pair up with my new iPhone. What do I do?
@@PeteJohnsMusic Hi Pete, sorry don't expect you to be the support for this, but I got one of the Y disk things, came with a dinky remote that allows photos or videos to be taken just by pressing its button. The USB stick and the remote paired up easily to and worked a treat with my iPhone, about a month ago, but since then, my iPhone got trashed, (fell down the loo don't ask) and I now have a replacement running on the same sim card. But the Y disk USB stick isn't recognised and the remote won't pair up. It keeps saying the USB disk isn't plugged in, but it is, and its a brand new iPhone. I've re-downloaded the app but no joy. And I can't find any tech info. (The new iPhone still has a lightning connector btw)
I’ve been looking into buying a iPhone flash drive, but it felt pointless since I have a flash drive already. So I looked into the Lightning cable adapter and it’s functionality, and is surprising to find out that they just recently included the use of Flash drives. I guess Ill be getting a adapter soon. Thank you for this informative video.

Hey there. You can use wireless USB devices but sometimes they require more power. Check out this video for information - ruclips.net/video/4ZoSFzSx52I/видео.html
very good video, however, I'm still wondering. I was going to buy a 16gb USB and put tv series on it to watch when I'm away without internet. Will I still have to download individual episodes onto my device before being able to watch? I thought it could stream it direct from the USB as it were? If so I likely won't have enough space to download individual episodes before watching.
Hi there. You can indeed watch videos directly from a USB drive plugged in USB to your iPhone or iPad. This would be a good idea for a future video I think as I get asked this question quite a lot. Here’s another video which you might find useful - ruclips.net/video/3B7VPYe5rZc/видео.html
Can I use this method to take a ton of photos to move off my I phone to make space? I am looking at a 256GB flashdrive. I try to save some money because the lightening apple flash drives are about 3 times the cost. IF I can use that converter from your video it should work, right? What is the exact name of that converter?
Hi Again, Pete. Thanks for this. However, a question please? Why does Audioshare files come up like it has. Separately. Because aren't they on, On My Phone already?
Yes, some apps use their own entire folder instead of a subfolder under “On my iPhone”. But they are indeed still actually on your device’s storage. I think this carries over from when we didn’t have the whole separate iCloud Drive location.
Hi Pete Can I transfer all my iPhone photos and videos to my 2TB USB through the same way you have shown? I don’t have a laptop hence can’t use the Apple iPhoto to transfer using laptop. Thank you

Hey there. Not at this stage sorry. I believe Apple restrict this to ensure folks don’t copy DRM music. If your tunes are in folders on your iPhone/iPad you can copy thosez
@@PeteJohnsMusic Why can't a copy photo from the usb into the phone camera roll? when i copy to "on my phone" its not in my camera roll, and then I cant upload the photos to apps since they launch camera roll to pick photos from
They could’ve improved it more by having a popup saying done for video files 🤔 When I was on Android, I was desperate cuz I wanted to download a lot of mp3 files and when I switched over to iOS, life was easy since I had to pay for most of them despite the fact that some songs are unavailable for iTunes (examples: money by mystery skulls, undercover by dr Dre ft snoop dogg, etc.) Also, are mp3 files compatible with GarageBand, and is there a way to see how much power a USB device or card reader takes up?
Hey there. Thanks for your feedback. To answer your questions. 1. No, there isn’t any way to determine how much power a device uses - it will just say “yep”, or “nope” by working or not. 2. Yep, MP3 files are supported for importing in to GarageBand but not exporting. You can covert to MP3 using the method in this video - ruclips.net/video/QJTu4Fcj_xg/видео.html
Thank you sir! I’m trying to find a good flow transferring video files recorded on my iPhone to my pc, this seems like a better solution that plugging my iPhone directly into my pc, well, wait...maybe iOS 13 made it easier to do that....in the past the video files were scattered into multiple folders

Here’s a video showing the app I use and how to do it. ruclips.net/video/4oIejCXh1TQ/видео.html I also have a door coming out today showing iTunes File Sharing in iOS 13 so watch this space.
Are there any usb thumb drives that let you actually use the Stock camera app instead of the ‘app’ software ? I want to use the amazing features of the new iPhone 11 Pro Max.. I have the Ixpand and the app is so basic
Hey there. So, you can now use any USB flash drive and access these in the Files app. I don’t believe you can record photos and videos to the USB drive but you can transfer from the camera roll to the USB drive quite easily. Here’s a video showing how. ruclips.net/video/FcwIv7zZ7J8/видео.html
Surely this device and flash memory transfers megabytes each time and stage of this method ,eating up the total capacity of the phone. Saving into phone files adds same chunk into various chosen places. So soon we have to delete masses or buy a bigger memory phone?
Hey there, is that a SD to USB adapter that you have there? Could I plug an sd card into an address to USB adapter and the plug that adapter into the USB port ? Thanks
If I transfer my photos and videos from my flash drive to my iPhone, will these files automatically be placed in my Camera roll or do I have to press the share button and choose the save option?
Hey there. Yes, you need to share them from the USB drive and select “save to photos”. Here’s a video showing how. ruclips.net/video/MglPx5FAgqA/видео.html
Hey there. Yes, I believe a USB 3 drive will be quicker but need to do some more testing. I’m still finding using WiFi transfer is much quicker if transferring from a Mac or PC.

Yes. Pretty much any file types can be transferred using a USB drive.
Thanks, Pete! What's that location called "iXpand Drive" in your Files app???
Hey there Bryan. That's my old (now redundant) USB flash drive for iOS called the Sandisk iXpand. Here's a video about it if you're interested - ruclips.net/video/Vk3pgwzW7jA/видео.html
Have iPhone 14 Pro with iOS16.2 tried the same as on video, won't work. Any idea how to make it work ?
You’re using the genuine Apple Lightning to USB 3 adapter? Non-genuine adapters don’t tend to work. studiolivetoday.com/usb
@@PeteJohnsMusic Yes, it is the genuine apple one.
Thank you for this! very thorough and exactly everything i needed to know! keep killing it man!
Cheers Raul. Appreciate it my friend. 🙏
Pete Johns anytime 💪🏼
it looks a useful device but can you record video directly from the iPhone to this device
Hey there. No, unfortunately you would need to record video to the iPhone/iPad first and then copy across to the USB drive.
@@PeteJohnsMusicThe device I know that can do this but you can not charge through at the same time is Kingston DataTraveler Bolt 👍
Really? Wasn’t aware of that. Didn’t think iOS supported recording to external media at all.
Hi is there a way to safely eject the external drive from the iPhone, or is it ok to just pull the drive out when it's no longer transferring data? Thanks!
Just make sure and transfers have been done and close the app if you’re concerned and want to be sure.
@@PeteJohnsMusic Thank you!!
Hi, Do I need to download any app in iphone for the files in USB drive to appear? Or simple plug it in and it’s in iphone?
Hey there. It is just the “Files” app. It should already be on your iPhone/iPad otherwise can be downloaded from the App Store for free. Here’s a video with try more info that may help. ruclips.net/video/3B7VPYe5rZc/видео.html
Hi
Can you directly record on the Pendrive without using iPhone storage
No. Not in my experience and using the apps I use.
My kids have iphone and I was hoping it would be plug and play like with my 'Pixel 3A". If I need to plug this into power source, this is a no go :(
Yes, it is still not a great solution. Hopeful they continue to improve things.
I guess you could see your battery. Latest iPhones have stronger battery and also there are independent batteries you can connect with your phone if you need more power.
is it possible to move files from the iphone to the USB flash drive? photos etc
Yup, fine transfers work both ways. ruclips.net/video/FcwIv7zZ7J8/видео.html
🙏 thank you
How can I safely eject USB drive from an Apple IPhone XR????
Don’t really need to safely eject in iOS. Just make sure any file transfers have completed.
Does the file creation date move along with the file?
I don’t believe so. Not for photos anyway.
Great video! Can micro usb otg drive connect to iphone using micro usb adapter(micro usb to lightning)?
Hey there. In my experience any of the aftermarket adapters and cables don't tend to work, which is why I use and recommend the genuine Apple Lightning to USB 3 adapter. ruclips.net/video/qt6ZczdUdV4/видео.html
Doesn't work for me. I have the Apple camera adapter, and power connected to it...still get the pop up that says "USB DISK: This accessory requires too much power". I have the iphone 11 running ios 15.4.1...so why wont it work?
Bummer. You’re plugged in to power with the adapter too? studiolivetoday.com/usb
Just discovering your videos and love them! Not sure if you can answer this one, but, I’m on an iPhone 6S+ running 13, and when I go into Files and plug it in, it doesn’t show, nothing pops up for it. Any idea what I’m missing? TIA
Hey Rachel. Welcome to the channel! So there’s a few reasons this might be which I explain in this video - ruclips.net/video/3B7VPYe5rZc/видео.html
Let me know how you go.
I have the proper things: iOS 13, proper usb, usb 3 lightning. 🤷🏻♀️ Nothing.
Very strange. And you’ve checked the format of the drive? Feel free to email me with a photo/video of your setup / pete@studiolivetoday.com
Bummer!! So yeah, you would need a PC in between and a second drive to transfer from an NTFS file format to FAT.
i don’t know if you still check comments on this but can this work for dowloading windows 10 on a newly built gaming pc?
Hey there. To download Windows 10 and copy to the flash drive in iOS? Hmmm…. That’s an interesting one. I guess if you could zip your the package once downloaded it would be technically possible??
I have aproblem with iphone 11 , it's not read the flash reader when I insert flash reader , advice please

Pete Johns my friend i was used iPhone 6 i can houk up Flash reader to it directly without any accessories
Just I installed app for access the flash reader
Now it's not working with iPhone 11
Hi Pete thanks for the information, but is this thing able to be used to transfer music onto a stick for play in a vehicle etc.
Really depends on the file formats and playback device. A lot of music on mobile devices is copy protected or has DRM so can’t be transferred.
Hi Pete,
I noticed in your Locations list in the Files app you have a folder for a SanDisk iXpand drive. Hope you have time to reply
Cheers Ron
Cheers Ron
Yes, that would certainly make life easier wouldn't it!? Glad to be able to help out. Have a great day.
i cant see the photo a photo on windows laptop, i can only see .heic file. should usb be on ios format?
Yeah it can transfer on this format sometimes. You might need to export from the photo library to the Files location first.
How can I transfer a song from my Tascam digital recorder to iPhone?
Hey there. So usually you can download digital audio files from a recorder as WAV files and then import them. ruclips.net/video/PBTz8J5LxeA/видео.html
So I have a Y disk and it and it slittle remote control worked fine, but my phone trashed and I can't get it to work or pair up with my new iPhone. What do I do?
Not quite sure what you’re asking sorry?
You're welcome. Yes, the new iOS 13 USB drive support has removed the need for any specialist USB drives for iOS. Here's another video which shows a little more if you're interested - ruclips.net/video/U9FkeTt9dNc/видео.html
Apple are 10 years late to the party with USB drive support, and still it requires an external power source, and only usb 2.0 speeds 😑
They’re so late that USB drives aren’t even a thing anymore. They were early for the cloud. 😎🤘
Hey I’m French sorry for my bad English,😐
Can I plug an USB key for my Bluetooth Headphones on the adapter?
Hey there. You can use wireless USB devices but sometimes they require more power. Check out this video for information - ruclips.net/video/4ZoSFzSx52I/видео.html
It works with hard drives too all you need is format the hard drive exfat in windows
Yes, I've discovered that all my big NTFS formatted hard drives full of media will not be any use unfortunately! Thanks for the feedback!
So can you use this to Transfer photos from the iPhone 11 pro max to a MacBook Pro?
Yup. ruclips.net/video/FcwIv7zZ7J8/видео.html
very good video, however, I'm still wondering.
Hey there. The Sandisk one is what I’ve used before. ruclips.net/video/Vk3pgwzW7jA/видео.html

@@PeteJohnsMusic Thanks, Pete.
No problem. I know that didn’t really answer the “why” question. 😊
You also need to be able to edit the titles of each file transferred or you get untitled or strange number titles.....
Hi there. Yes, if you’re backing up to USB you will get Apple’s naming conventions and need to edit these.
Hi Pete
Can I transfer all my iPhone photos and videos to my 2TB USB through the same way you have shown? I don’t have a laptop hence can’t use the Apple iPhoto to transfer using laptop. Thank you
Yup. ruclips.net/video/FcwIv7zZ7J8/видео.html
How do you safely eject the, in my case sd card?
There is no eject option in iOS. Just make sure transfers have finished and then close the app to be sure.

Is there a way to get music off of my music library into a USB?
You can covert to MP3 using the method in this video -

Thank you sir! I’m trying to find a good flow transferring video files recorded on my iPhone to my pc, this seems like a better solution that plugging my iPhone directly into my pc, well, wait...maybe iOS 13 made it easier to do that....in the past the video files were scattered into multiple folders
Hey there. I actually use WiFi file sharing most often to transfer large files. I find it quicker and more convenient than any other method. Here’s a video showing the app I use and how to do it. ruclips.net/video/4oIejCXh1TQ/видео.html
I also have a door coming out today showing iTunes File Sharing in iOS 13 so watch this space.
Did not work on my cruzer 256 or 64 gb usb drives :(
That’s odd? Check out the links and info here to make sure you’re using compatible gear. studiolivetoday.com/usb
The drives work if I plug in to my powered hub
Surely this device and flash memory transfers megabytes each time and stage of this method ,eating up the total capacity of the phone. Saving into phone files adds same chunk into various chosen places. So soon we have to delete masses or buy a bigger memory phone?
Hey there. You can transfer both ways to free up space when you need to.
Thanks for this video, I will try and see
