In this I Was Made For Lovin' You guitar lesson video, I will demonstrate how to play all of this KISS classic note-for-note.
As I mention in the video lesson, the tuning is a little bit strange for this one. They are tuned a half-step down for the original recording, those notes starting from the 6th string are (Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb). However, if you try to play along with the original recording you will notice that the actual pitch is about a 1/4 step sharp of that Eb tuning. This is common in rock music, especially from back in the analog days where everything was recorded to tape and different tape machines pulled at a slightly different rates, which alters the pitch.
In any case, for the video lesson, I will be tuned down a half-step.
There are lots of two guitar sections in "I Was Made For Lovin' You". I will demonstrate each part separately as they appear in the song.
The riffs themselves are pretty easy to play. I would say the most difficult rhythm guitar part would be the single note bass line riffs that are played using a consistent 16th note rhythm. Keeping that very consistent for an extended period of time can be a bit tiresome, so make sure you keep your picking hand, wrist and forearm as relaxed as possible.
Ace Frehley's short guitar solo break is by far the most difficult part of the song. It doesn't move around a lot, but does contain a bunch of quick licks that are thrown together in a very tight and precise picking style.
I will break the solo down phrase-by-phrase which will help you understand how to approach it during your practice. Enjoy!

The tuning is done at 432 Hz for the original that's why it sounds in-between, the current tuning for instruments all over is 440 Hz. I tune my guitar to 432 and practice it. The pitch sounds exactly like the original.
I believe that Mr. Speed is the same way...at least when I play along with the cd or other recording.
@@AMadScientist correct
the original song is in standard 440hz tone
Wasn’t sure of hz. Had 2 hours to learn it. Never took the time to figure out the pitch. Just transposed it for live.
I think we tuned down a half step back then. So. Maybe it made it easier to learn. Not sure. It’s not a hard song at all. So that’s made it easier too.
@@marcomolinasmolinari6083 besides in the studio, where did you get that from?
it amazes me how sparse the KISS guitar parts are.... but so effective within each song and sounds full in the mix with the other instruments.
I watch as I've played for years and want to protect the hearing I have left. If I can see first few minutes I can figure the song out. I knew he was off a 1/4 step. Go figure ace. It's amazing he even tuned it.
why do you only mention Ace? he was more of the lead player and Paul was more of the rhythm player and clearly they both needed to be tuned the same.
tuning in between E standard and E-flat was pretty common on old AC/DC as well.. It is not always a recordng issue and speed.. When I listen to the original recording the voices sound pretty natural so I think it was played and recorded in that pitch.. It is no secret that 440Hz is pretty badly aligned with the vocal passaggios of most male singers in rock.. Tune down to 430Hz (-40 cents) and all notes in the 12 scale sits below the passaggio point meaning you do not have to transiton on any of the notes.. which is relaxing..
the original song is in standard 440hz tone
if you change the tuning of the guitar the voice has to come down also to stay in tune with the instrument. this sounds like a BS explanation to me.
I've noticed alot of late 70s to early 80s stuff is off tuning exactly like this one. Must be the 432 to 440 conspiracy.. ;) Crafty song. As per usual w Kiss
Thanks man, we love this.
Could you do Tragically Hip, New Orleans is Sinking?
Awesome❤
I like your video's and it helps me alot. Although I often cannot see clearly which finger actually does something. It would be very helpfull if you could clarify that more. But aside from that: thanx for your efforts!
I think the opposite. I want less of that "2nd finger on 3rd string" BS. just play along with the song and I can figure it out.
you are right, i saw some documents about the guitar tuning....it is 3 or 4 cents higher. thats all i can remember
Hello. Thank for you work. If I may suggest something, is putting a tab .. it’s hard to follow sometimes.

If you guys are young you need to do like him and use headphones and listen to the songs and learn pitch and how to figure them out on your own
I've always doubted that Ace played that solo on the record because its very uncharacteristic of His style & He could never get anywhere near playing it right in concert yet all His other solo's live were pretty much identical to the way He recorded them so..?+.I once read in a Kiss book that it was either Dirk Wageoner or Bob Kulick imitating Ace they were both good at that.
Love gun please!
i dare you to do a pure disco song - Night Fever by the Bee Gees!

Please can you do a lesson of Anhel of mercy by Black Label Society? It's my favourite song 😉
Sorry : Angel of mercy
A little confused here. When you correct yourself early on by not moving up to the Em pull off during the main riff, you said you that was later in the chorus. But when I listen to the studio and live versions, both seem to do the same pattern in both the intro and the chorus, always ending on that Em pull off and never actually repeating the D>C pull off at all. Just my lame ears or what? Either way, thanks for the great helpful vid. Our KISS tribute band references mostly live albums so I'd love it if you could do a lesson on the ALIVE III version of Lick It Up cuz there's no solo on the studio version and I'm finding it a bit tough to gather all those notes n' licks. Thanks!
You are 100% right, my friend. Either he got more confused when he was correcting himself or he's wrong. The intro progression is exactly the same as the chorus progression. It goes from the first riff with the single A pull-off to the D riff with the single D pull off, then back again to the first riff with the A pull-off again to the D riff and then to the E-minor pull-off, then repeat. Same exact progression with the chorus. The D pull-off coincides with the way Paul Stanley sings the first part of the chorus "I can't get enough of you" and the E-minor pull-off coincides with the second part of the chorus "can you get enough of me." Goop spot, you're the only one who noticed that.
I’ve seen them play it live and they just use the intro riff for the chorus
machine head! just released a new song
Por q no la tenes afinada en E?
Lo explica al principio del video. Dice que fue grabada o editada a una afinación entre E y Eb. Y él la tiene en Eb para este tutorial.
recorded half step down but sounds a quarter sharp. Maybe we could split the difference and had the lesson in standard. Silly. Still a great teacher but I'm not tuning out of standard for it. SRV? Hendrix? Ya maybe. but not Kiss.
So it's halfway there. Kind of like van halen runnin witht he devil
Now is this an electric guitar
do bad to the bone
