I love the tip on adding a reverb with the cathedral effect to close out a piece of music at a chosen point. This is something I've been wanting to do better for some time - fantastic!
I’ve been using the Hold Frames over Freeze the whole time for similar reasons, but I never realised the tip about the audio. Your tip with the reverb has reduced my workflow for a same effect down to less than 10% of what I was doing. Full kudos! Thank you!
Well, I'm never going to use Freeze Frame again. My favorite part was how you can use Hold Frame to end a song early. That's AWESOME. Solid tutorial, friend!
Hold the frame! Holtheframe! Holframe! Hodor! Awesome tutorial my dude 🙌🏼 I used to create freeze frames (I think because I was unaware that Hold Frame was a thing) and I would always get annoyed that I couldn't go in and make changes to the effects in the clip. Hold frame is an infinitely better choice. Solid audio tip at the end also! That's one of my favorite ways to end a sound effect prior to a gap of silence.
Not gonna lie, I’ve been using Hold frames for a while now and realize the advantages. But some of the stuff you mentioned here, I never considered or never even knew. And you can do a Hold Frame on sound??!! I NEVER EVEN considered that! 🤯 And the reverb ending. You know how long I’ve been trying to figure a way to do that?! Thanks so much for a great trick to add to the bag.
Incredible!! This is so much better than the freeze frame it's crazy and I never even heard of it.... lol... Thanks to creators like you I am learning so much about FinalCut and Motion lately! Mind you I have been using both programs for years, but at a very basic level.. I also love the cathedral reverb trick at the end which I also didn't know I needed to know ;) You are the man 👊
ok so the clip thing was pretty useful but the music OMG YES!!! I could’ve used that for my vlogs countless times! can’t wait to use it now thanks!!! subbed
Excelent video, I only use Freez frame when I want to add transitions and/or a specific effect just to the one frame (ken burns for example) for everything else Hold frame “Is the way”
@@TheFinalCutBro definitely! On your previous video I left a comment with a video idea, but maybe it was marked as a spam or youtube just randomly deleted it (happens on my channel all the time). But anyway I was suggesting a video about exporting graphics from Pixelmator Pro to Apple Motion Project file format. That might be interesting because Pixelmator can import vector graphics as svg and then export it directly to Motion project.
@@TheVelomobileChannel yes! I’m definitely planning on that. And yeah, RUclips does that so much to me! Super frustrating. Glad you could get the comment to me this time! Great suggestion!
For me there is another major reason to use hold frame - for some reason freeze frame sometimes crashes fcpx for me. Especially if used somewhere deep inside multiclip compound clip etc - it is pretty much guaranteed to crash. But hold frame just woks with no crashes. And btw - I learned really a lot from this video even though I work in FCPX for 5 years and was considered as a pro in it))
I love freeze frame of Avid Liquid 7.2 and that was 5:1 DV format. Not so with Pinnacle-Avid studio which requires two steps while Avid Liquid does it in one step.
Thank you! This is a very well done and helpful video for me. It's much appreciated. Now I'm looking for one more thing. How to edit an AUDIO clip, like cutting out a breath, and move up the clip (R to L) behind it all in one move. Much like when you editing the primary storyline does. Except for an audio clip. In Pro Tools this is call a shuffle edit. Maybe it's a ripple edit in FCP?
That hold is awesome for reverb and echo because of how FCP doesn't allow reverb and echo to extent over the clip. Made me crazy to try to do it. With hold it's easy. Thanks for the tip!
It's a huge time saver! The other method I know of requires dropping everything into a compound clip, with a gap clip at the end. Then adding the reverb in the timeline. Adds a ton of steps that I never cared for! Was so stoked when I learned about the hold frame tip.
I like hold frame but I find that when I go back much later and decide I want to re-adjust the duration later, it glitches out a lot of keyframes and effects I may have added. For something like freeze, zoom in, and add a filter/text, I still prefer freeze frame. Been using hold frames to play with reverb thought that's a great move!
Hmmm… I didn’t even know that freeze frame/hold frame was something built into FCPX. Personally, I figured you needed a plug-in for that type of effect. Question: Do you have a tutorial on doing a slow-motion scene? I wanted to have combatants fist fighting, then someone goes into a slow-motion punch. Thanks and keep up the great work!
Is there some way to freeze a frame without messing up the timing of the whole project? Freeze frames and Hold both add length to the clip. I want to be able to just pause a section of a clip without lengthening it.
Thanks Dylan. I have been watching and "Liking" your tips and tricks tutorials on FCPX. Do you have any tutorials on the "Ken Burns" effect . . . particularly when the frame is vertical and how to turn the "start" and "end" boxes vertically to better work within the vertical frame?
Select your clip and press Shift N to set it back to normal! You can also do that from the retime editor, which is the speedometer looking icon below your viewer,
@@TheFinalCutBro So helpful. It worked! Finally.. haha. I reverted to doing all the work again with a new clip, but now I know for the future. Thanks, Dylan!
What do you do if you have two layers of images? I have a partial .png image over the video, and neither the Shift-H nor the Option-F works to freeze both together. Won't create a freeze frame with two layers of imagery.
Me clicking on this video: oh yeah I know about Hold Frame. I won't learn anything new. Dylan: and you can use it on music too! Me: I am the dumbest person alive.
Lol I’ve been editing on final cut for like 6 years and didn’t even know you could do a “freeze frame” I’ve always just used the hold frame feature thinking it was the exact same thing
10 years of using FCP and I haven’t realized this workflow for the reverb. Thanks for sharing it! I usually create a compound to do it 🥲
I learned it pretty recently as well! Big timesaver and I love not having the compound clip show up in my library as well.
@@TheFinalCutBro Same! haha
@@diegovalente_ ive just said exactly the same thing as I watched it.. wow Thanks @The Final Cut Bro
same here bro!
You did it again! Thank you. I still don't understand how you have the ability to look at FCP from a beginners perspective, yet have such mastery.
Appreciate that so much Mark!
You have no idea how many hours of editing this 4 minute video has saved me. I already feel like I have a third brother. Thanks BRO!
Omg thank you!!

BROOO me tooooo. I used the freeze frame for far too long. I am curious why Apple even maintains having the freeze frame.
The reverb trick is amazing! Glad RUclips recommended this to me 😆
You're absolute dawg bro, you make all these helpful videos

Awesome tip. This is not something anyone would discover on their own. Thanks for sharing!
Brooooo that reverb tip is a game changer !!!
Another excellent and useful tutorial. Very many thanks from Scotland!
I was fighting over this just last week. Thanks again for sharing. Good stuff.
Perfect timing!
Like everyone else on here.... that reverb tip at the end. So good. I never knew how to do that.
Thank you for the ring-out tip! I've been using a much more convoluted way of placing the music inside a compound clip for abooout 10 years now....
Thank you so much. I've been using FCP since there's been FCP and had no idea on the menu in the clip there. Amazing!
dude, that reverb trick! You just got a new subscriber!
Wow, that’s awesome. Thanks bro!
Thank you for this! It's exactly what I need right now for my edit!
Super! Gonna try the Hold Frame on a video I’m working on right now. Thanks!
PERFECT! Glad this video came out when it did!

Dylan, late to this party, but yet another very helpful video! Thank you !
That is amazing. I always use freeze frame. Didn’t know that hold frame existed. That’s amazing good job. ❤️💎
So glad you found this video! 👊
Your demonstration of Hold-frame with audio clips is awesome.
Thanks so much Mark!
came for the hold frame tut but the audio trick is so cool!!
🤯 Great stuff! I’ll be using this in my next video!
Never thought about speed ramping the hold frame that was a great tip 👍🏼
Literally came to me while I was making this video 😂 I was so glad to see it actually worked!
Thanks so much for the insights on how to use this for audio! So cool!
this is helpful I will give the hold a try. I've been using freeze for all my guide dog videos. I'm gonna checkout more of you video also
Using it for ending echo on the audio is a great tip, thanks
Excelent tutorial again. I’ve been using the hold frame for long time, but I didn’t know all these things you can do with it. Thanks!
Definitely a more complex tool than at first glance!

Cool!
I’ve got an upcoming project that this will work perfectly for!
Never cared for the destructive nature of freeze frames either.
Agreed! That's the largest issue I have with freeze frames as well.
Excellent! Ya just joined team reverb, super smart move.
Seriously, Dylan. Great work-didn’t know fcp had that feature and that I could be applied to Audio too!
Appreciate that so much!!

Hey! The Option+F command that created a freeze frame no longer works. it does nothing. Any idea why? Maybe some way to "toggle it on"?

I'm definitely slowly becoming more and more anti 5-minute plus videos 😂
Wow. SOLID video! Thank you~
Thank you for another very informative tutorial keep up the good work!
Appreciate you watching as always! 👊
Very useful tips!
good stuff, def needed this!
Oh shoot I been editing in fcpx for years and didn’t know freeze frame existed or source clip during the hold 😭🤦🏾♂️💯🔥🔥
great tip! thanks! you got a new subscriber!

I am always learning more and more! Appreciate you stopping by the stream today as well!
Thanks for the tip!
Gracias!
Thanks Bro, that was useful 👍.
I always used hold frame, I never knew there was a freeze frame💀
For me the biggest advantage is the fact you can hold the frame on a 360 photo or video and still be able to change the angles.
That's a great tip I had never even thought of!
Perfect
Thank you!
Amazing vid as usual! youre truly a GOAT!!!

New to your channel and I loved and understood this...lol....(new to editing) Thanks
BTW - love the music (ending) tip.
Love it, thanks
Hey, good to know! Thanks!
Appreciate you watching as always Sky!
As a side note, that Unsharp Mask video is doing really well. Got any more golden ideas? 😂
So many secret sauce moments in this video. I love the Hold, but learned something anyway!
So much secret sauce, it's nearly salsa!
Thanks bro!
great man! Thanks

Top shelf good!
Appreciate that coming from you Rafael!
