- Maude (Bea Arthur) is very excited to have a new British maid (Hermione Baddeley), but Walter (Bill Macy) doesn't feel the same.
From Season 3, Episode 4 'The New Housekeeper' - Since Florida has left, Maude hires a new maid, sight unseen. At first, she seems like a dream, but then she caters only to Walter since he is the master of the house. Maude corrects her.

About Maude: Gutsy, smart, outspoken, and liberal -- all are terms that describe Beatrice Arthur in the title role of the TV series that spun off from the popular All in the Family. Well-educated and upper-middle-class, Maude Findlay is the archetypal feminist of her generation. She lives in suburban Tuckahoe, New York, with her fourth husband, Walter (Bill Macy), their divorced daughter, Carol (Adrienne Barbeau), and grandson Phillip. The cast also includes Rue McClanahan as Maude's best friend Vivian; Walter's best friend and neighbor Dr. Arthur Harmon (Conrad Bain); and over the course of the series, three different maids (Esther Rolle, Hermione Baddeley and Marlene Warfield). Tough issues like abortion, alcoholism, women's liberation, menopause and politics are all fodder for the show's sharp wit and social commentary.

What a great addition to this show! This woman was absolutely hilarious!🤣
I grew up in Naugatuck CT, Mrs Naugatuck actually came to our town in the mid 70s during a summer hiatus from Maude. The mayor gave her the keys to our town.
Nice to hear of that, thanks. I had read recently that the house that they showed in the opening and closing credits is actually in California. The site showed photos of a renovation.
Thank you for sharing that! It’s very interesting 🙂💕🙂💕
Mrs Naugatuck was hilarious! I love the episode where she finds Maude in her room and kicks her out of it! I really miss that show and people's attitude in the early 70's!
She definitely had her moments, but Florida will always be the best.❤
@Logia SD Overrated, my Aunt Fanny. Esther Rolled was absolutely amazing.
I love Nell and Florida they are both lovely!
So many laughs in such a short amount of time. I miss those days.
Fun fact: The maid was actually a maid from Mary Poppins.
and Bewitched
She was also in Little House in Prarie
If I could walk that way I would have stayed in Brisbane!🤣
Love to see the rest of this brilliant episode!!! So many great lines and LOL when she says to Maude: "Oh brother another Vanessa Redgrave!" and Maude retorts about being a Tall Jane Fonda!
Yes, that was good. I like the one when Mrs. Naugatuck is fussing over Walter, and Maude gets upset when Mrs. Naugatuck said, "If God had wanted us to spend so much time on our feet, he wouldn't have given us so much sit down on", followed by a shrieking laugh. Moments later, Maude said the same (and laughed) in sarcasm.
She was Maude’s best housekeeper
Oh, no - bawdy house! They didn't stay over! 😂😂😂😂😂
You really should do something about them steps. I nearly broke me bloody bum!
“I nearly broke me bloody bum!” 🤣🤣🤣
Mrs Naugatuck was just a tiny bit away from being like Greer Garson.
Mrs. Bob Cratchit.
I guess she was staying at the Viper Room brothel in Brisbane lol. Just hearing the iconic Bea Arthur say Brisbane even if not correctly was wonderful.
OMG so funny! A Bawdy House!!🤣🤣🤣🤣
I liked Mrs.Naughatuck.
Thank You Norman Lear for putting my HomeTown on the map :)
She was a hoot!
Hermione Baddeley won a Golden Globe award for best supporting actress in a TV comedy for her role as Mrs. Naugatuck. It's too bad she stayed just three seasons.
Hermione Baddeley - just a few years after she was a maid in Mary Poppins...
I thought she was from Mary Poppins and immediately went to the comments to confirm!
Excellent. Comedy gold. Thank you for posting this.
Cut it Maude
MAUDE
She owned a bawdy house…😂
Naugatuck Connecticut my HomeTown 1971-1986 was based on this character
The reference to Toronto is interesting in hindsight, considering all the commercials Bea Arthur did for Shopper's Drug Mart.
Yes, and apparently, those commercials were largely unknown in the US.
@@SashineB
I heard that was precisely why Bea agreed to do them.
@@JanetStarChild I hadn't heard that, but it wouldn't surprise me. Have you see the ads? At the time, Shoppers would give a gift with certain purchases, usually advertised is some of those ads. I still have the silver-plated salad servers that were gifted.
@@SashineB
Oh yes! I believe I've seen them all.
Nice relic you have there; hold onto it.
I loved Hermione Baddeley in Mary Poppins!!!!!
Mrs. Naugatuck was the best maid they had. When she joined, this show really got funny
Naugatuck Connecticut was my HomeTown based on her name
Thé show was funny before her
I think Maude and Florida had great chemistry
I like the other maid better
I agree that the show got more entertaining when Mrs. Naugatuck became the maid. She and Maude got in to many battles. Hermione Baddeley won a Golden Globe award for best supporting actress in a TV comedy show. It's too bad she left after the 5th season.
Walter and his sans-a-belt pants. They were all the rage in those days.
Carol. The reason I watched Maude.
Oh Carol was beautiful
A hoot!
I liked the episode where she hid a man in her closet, also when all the housekeepers had a party for her when she got engaged then the guy jilted her, and the one where her fiance Bert didn't want to sleep with her until they got married, the broken punch bowl episode told in flashbacks, and the household feed when Maude vacuumed up Cyril's urn ashes.
Walter then turns to Maude and says .. for your husbands Maude, you'd need a six pack ... lmao
And I love the way Mrs. Naugatuck put her trunk on her back and goes up the stairs.
That Maude
That uncompromising, enterprising, anything but tranquilizing, RIGHT ON, MAUDE!
My mom thought she was too outspoken, but I'd sometimes sneak watch it.
I love her accent.
I like her‼️😀
Im from Brisbane Australia and its actually pronounced BRIZBIN... just an FYI :)
This is a sitcom, Maude is a character.. she wasn’t necessarily supposed to pronounce it correctly
that has to be a local thing because as an almost 50 year old Canadian (fellow Commonwealther lol), I have never heard it pronounced the way you spelled it. It's always been pronounced Bris-bane
That's how the Americans pronounce it.
@@Etobeeshawn It's pronounced exactly how spelt above in all of Australia, New Zealand, and United Kingdom.
She was a funny person
Somewhere Maude gets her bloomers in a twist . How do you rate this one between Florida and Victoria?
I love the show Maude ! Nell is awesome 💕
Joseph and toady TV 😊
Was Mrs Naugatuck the lady in the Carry On series? If so she was hilarious!
No, I think you may be thinking of Joan Simms.
She was also Mrs. Cratchit in the 1951 film, "Scrooge".
I dont like this maid has much has florida. She fit more
Walter’s voice is so irritating. Every time I hear him 😫
Briz-bin not Briz-bayne
I wish Amazon Prime had all seasons on Maude instead of just the first 2 !
I wish there was one movie/TV app that had nothing but these old classic television shows, they are all I watch anymore. The new shows that they make now are awful and are just full of smut and all the propaganda they are trying to promote in society, and I refuse to watch them !!!
"Shout Out" has the complete 6 seasons box set, all 141 episodes on 19 discs. This includes the two initial "All in the Family " episodes plus two unaired episodes as well as cast interviews. I truly enjoyed all six years of the show and I watch it often.
I was just thinking the same thing! I was so excited to find it on Amazon, and then I saw it's only the first two seasons for free.
I finally got used to watching this on tv and they took off air. I don't stream.
