As someone who is not a dark romance lover either, I will say there are good dark romance books. My issue with the genre is the abusive and toxic relationships, but that seems to be a staple of dark romance. Penelope Douglas does have a dark romance series called Devil's Night. The first book is a revenge plot line and sets up the rest of the series. It was one of the first dark romance books I read and enjoyed, so if anyone is looking for a dark romance book recommendation I suggest you start there. Haunting Adeline, Den of Vipers and Credence are not good books from my experience and I believe BookTok is wrong for recommending them. I personally have moved on to fantasy romance and there is no going back to dark romance for me.

I agree! There are definitely good dark romances out there, I was just curious why these are so widely recommended and they do not live up to the hype!
