Open up and pay civilians to participate in Neighborhood Citizen Patrol, I am sure there are many Young, Retired, or off work good citizens willing to make extra money (like Uber) to help their own neighborhood. Citizen-Patrol will become the Drones for the MotherShip-Police officer in any particular beat to monitor/deter/report crime and make citizens arrest until Officer shows up later. This can be a temporary solution or a long term one. I am sure the Counsel member can work out the details.

Sad thing is corruption still exits. They should think about hiring off duty MP's and using National Gaurd. Second, work with in the community, high crime areas can be covered. Areas that dont need/seek atrention use Sheriffs. I still dont understand how city employees are working in on other cities as well as federal highways and byways. Maybe its time to make city police and county and port/airpot police and transit officers. At the end of the day tge city is negligent becayse tgey are not doing thier jobs....

Focus on violent homeless. Stop harassing people over expired registrations when the DMV can’t even take an appointment for months!

As a taxpayer, it’s disappointing that certain areas are understaffed. The Police commission needs to do a better job at overseeing HPD resources & not approve 250k to a convicted former police chief.

Big on shopo for bringing this finally to light to the public. Unfortunately, the public hasn't been up to date about these issues because the hpd men and women are not complainers, they get it done. But when it's pushed to the limit where they are at now, you know this is a huge issue. They wouldn't be so outspoken about it if it wasn't something big. Good luck Honolulu PD.

He's pointing out the problem in both HPD and state and city workers. They abuse overtime and run their budgets dry. Legislature toss city and state funds as needed but HPD they wag the finger. These OT abuses lead to massively overinflated pensions as well in all levels of local government. Unions the only one not standing to gain much so more likely to call out the abuses. Good luck getting HGEA to do similar...

What they need to do is stop requiring Police Officers to respond to non-criminal type of cases. Officers now will respond to every call that comes in to 911. Your kid doesn't want to get up and go to school? call 911 and have an Officer come to talk to them. Your neighbors dog barking too late or too early ? Call 911 so an Officer can come and scold your neighbor. You don't like that there is a Garage Sale sign posted on a pole past the sale date? Call 911 and have an Officer go and take care of that for you. Neighbors dog running up and down the street? Call the Humane Society.....NOPE, call 911 and have an Officer with no dog catching equipment come and try to catch and secure the dog so the Humane Society can then come and get the dog. Many many more cases like this need to be removed from the Police Officers responsibility so they can handle more crime related types of cases!

Plenty haters out!! Remember when your shit gets stolen or you get your ass kicked don't call police. And don't cry if you break the law, its set fourth by the law makers, police enforce laws not make them. So be a man or woman and swallow your pride when you get caught breaking the law and take the citation or arrest. People in Hawaii are to spoiled they think they entitled to get a break every single time the break the law.....That's SAD!!!! Good to see some support for our law enforcement community.

You guys want more money to pass out fines to us???
What about the ticket quotas you guys have to ticket & fine us as much as possible ???
You want more money to be sure we get as much tickets as possible?
Where did all the huge amounts of money go that was given to you already???

They have way to many heads. Way to many that don't do any real work. Get rid of 60% of the heads and they'll have way more that enough to do real work. Then maybe they can get rid of many of the dead beats. It's bad enough that those on the patrol don't do anything anyway. Many take long naps to stay fresh.
