    Small footnote: The M23 actually won 16 races all in all, which makes it *the* most successful single Formula 1 car ever made.
    Hakkinen was always spectacular to watch. A great guy too.

    • @jamesshunt5123
      @jamesshunt5123 10 лет назад +8

      Johnny Bonkers According to StatsF1 the M23 is the most successful single model. Perhaps by virtue of its model name alone.
      Knowing Colin Chapman - who always tried to redesign cars, take designs beyond their practical limits and fit parts from his dead-end designs, much to the chagrin of his drivers - I don't know if the 72C Rindt won the 1970 title with was similar enough with 72E and 72F's Peterson raced in 1975.
      I thought the 312T2 was designed from the lessons learned from the 312T model and had enough aerodynamic alterations to make it a new model. I checked up a site and compared the T and T2 and found that the T2 had a longer wheelbase and other dimensions differs it from the T as well.
      According to Ferrari themselves (their website) about the 312T2 "the Scuderia had to come up with a practically new car for the 1976 season." One can also read: "the car was now lighter thanks to a new chassis structure." Originally it was designed with a new suspension in mind too, but Ferrari couldn't sort it and abandoned the idea.
      Interestingly Ferrari believes they won the 1977 title "thanks to a much improved 312 T2". I interpret "much improved" as "redesigned", unless Ferrari is laying it on thick.
      If we're going to go down that route then the McLaren MP4/2 would be the most successful model with its 22 wins in three season 1984-1985-1986. 25 wins if we count the MP4/3 of 1987.
      Williams won 18 races in 1986-1987 with the FW11/FW11B and 27 races in 1991-1992-1993 with the FW14/FW14B/FW15C.
      Too bad the turbo-era didn't continue for yet another season, for I have a feeling Senna and Prost would have won another 15 races with the MP4/4, instead of the 11 they won (10 which counted) with the NA Honda engined MP4/5.

    I'm a big Schumi fan too, but Mika was a very great driver too. In 1995 Adelaide his life dancing on the razor's edge, and he come back to win 2 titles against schumacher in his prime. True Legend

Great team great passion great class~ Legendary team now in the back row of the grid. As a Mclaren fan for the last 18 years, Its pains me to watch every race when Fernando & Stoffel had to stop due to reliability.
