I remember as a kid in the early ‘80’s we were running around with our pocketknives, matches and surplus canteens spending all day “bushcrafting” before I even knew what bushcrafting was. As a kid we just scrounged up whatever was close enough to what we needed, wouldn’t be missed and we could make work. Man, those were fun times and I still feel like a kid every time I head into the outdoors. I wish more kids nowadays could have that experience.

For ultra light, I recently aquired a kuiu summit refuge 3 and a down quilt by big agnes large enough to cover two people on pads. The tent is just under 2lbs and is huge for its wieght and stuff size. The tent shell fits in a USGI Canteen pouch and the inner mesh tent w floor fits in another one w 12 stakes. No poles needed, trekking poles or field crafted from sticks will work, or a ridge line. The tent also has a zip in stove jack.
Good to have a wide range of shelter and sleep gear available for various conditions...I keep my sleeping bags stored in a xl duffle bag so they aren't compressed. Looking forward to the next video....Thanks Dave! Happy new year!

Cool kit. Thanks for sharing. Looks like you've got close to a couple of thousand miles ahead of you at a minimum. You probably have a couple of thousand fans / subscribers with private property along the way, upon which you and your crew could camp / overnight along your journey. I'm one, though camping at my spot would put a couple more hundred miles to your overall journey. You could go down one way and come back up another. You should do a big journey sometime and make a route around the country camping only at subscriber's places. Maybe get a list of possible subscribers places that they send in with descriptions, pictures, etc. You could spend an entire season doing that easily. Never seen anyone interact with their fanbase in that manner. Just an idea, brother. You and yours are always welcome at my campfire anytime.
Maybe I missed it but what’s the item that was sitting on top of the pillow case in the dyneema bag he had his left hand on during a good part of the beginning? Thx
This is more of an ultra light event as far as gear goes and I use both often depending on what I’m doing. The pathfinder hammock was developed as an entry level hammock for affordable quality not necessarily light weight. I work with many companies as well and Hammock gear has been one of my partners for almost 10 years. I am pretty sure 5,000 UL hammock guys won’t have much interest in Traditional Kit.
I wonder what your opinion would be of using a game cart as a way of conveyance of heavier gear or what solution you would have to packing a long term in nomadic/long term sustainable wilderness living kit. Horses or goats seem viable with goats being likely more affordable. I haven't seen to much about anyone doing anything with game carts for survival and it seemed very multifunctional and practical.

Could we use the Flextail pump for the Exped sleeping pad? Exped recommends their widget to blow up the air pads but it’s too heavy and bulky.
