    I don't think I've ever seen a cox in the bows before. If he doesn't need to see his crew, why doesn't every boat do that?

      only a configuration for coxed fours.

      Pretty much every coxed four raced at a decent standard will be bow-loaded. You can find old examples of bow-loaded eights, but you don't want your cox in the crumple zone of a boat with quite a bit more momentum than a coxed four.
